  1. Unfortunately, I believe the feeling of the teams is that there will be a big discount on relievers. That being said I believe the Twins would think in this market that they could save money by letting Rogers go & try to resign him or find a comparable replacement. I`d like them to resign Clippard, him & any good deal try to get a 2 yr. deal Cleveland is very confident w/ their ability to scout great talent & developing it. So they don`t hesitate to let go pitchers. to the extent of aces. Twins have shown the same talent w/ BP, so I imagine they`ll see what they can do w/ the recent additions & their farm prospects
  2. Archer is in the the top 50 free agents. Twins love sliders & Archer was great w/ it at TB where was allowed to use it. I agree w/ Trov to offer a low salary w/ a lot of production base incentives, to cover ourselves if his full recovery is delayed. There has been some rumors w/ different teams including TB. The Twins should pursue this opportunity because he has a lot of upside, there`s no limit w/ what Wes Johnson can do w/ him because he is motivated. We shouldn`t look at his stats from PIT, it wasn`t his fault that PIT forced him to abandon his slider to throw sinkers. The difference between PIT pitching staff to MN, is like night & day, a low salary would free up $ to go after a higher priced FA.
  3. I believe Cash made the right call. Facing a powerful top of the line-up for the 3rd time w/ the best BP is a no brainer. Snell`s success is a result of Cash`s decisions that have been made up to that point. If Snell would have stayed in the game & been ripped & lost the game, he`d be the goat. Instead he was praised by Cash for doing his job admirably which he did.
  4. Love your article, like you said Robby Ray has his control problems yet he could be a tweak away from being an ace because he has the stuff. I`m in the same camp about Chris Archer, felt so sorry for him when he was stranded in PIT. He has great untapped talent that went to waste & went down hill from there. He is hated in PIT & will be released today. Because of stats & the corrective surgery he had this summer. IMO will be dirt cheap. I`d be tremendously happy if he find himself, fulfilling his full potential as a Twin. Both of them could top off our pitching staff
  5. Like you mentioned Nick, this coming year will be very interesting. W/ 2020 losses & uncertainty of 2021, most everybody is expected to cut payroll. this offseason IMO in the beginning everybody will be in the wait & see mode. FA demand will be low therefore offers will be low. All the FAs & players that are in arbitration that we`d like to keep but unwilling to pay the price, approach them & relay the desire to keep them but budget wont let us bring you back unless we negotiate a lower price. If they want to remain a Twin they will negotiate a reasonable salary if not thank them for their service & move on. Because of the glut of FAs that will hit the market IMO the offers for FA could be much lower than what you estimated. The Twins love to wait & see in a normal season so this coming off-season there is no doubt they`ll do this.
  6. It seems that the Marlins have an eye on pitching talent. Now that they are competitive they probably would be willing to give up a young arm to fill holes in their line up. If Wes is confident & if we can get a good deal w/ a trade we can live with, I say go for it. By the way, like your title
  7. Cruz is very valuable & we should go after him. Maybe this will be his last year, I don`t think he`ll accept an coaching salary yet but hopefully he will w/ us when he does decide to retires. But maybe he`ll take a cut due to the down turn, if not he may be gone
  8. I suspected cheating. I don`t know how but I`m an advocate of checking for electrical devices before a batter bats.
  9. I know last off season before we got Donaldson, I suggested we go after a SS & shift Polanco to 2B. Top of my wish list were Baez & Story at the time Cubs & Rockies had high hopes but this season they could be attainable. My doubts for placing Polanco at utility IMO is that I think Polanco has trouble adjusting w/ which arm motion to use thus causing throwing errors. Although I think Lewis is ready to be at least a doable SS or utility, I suggest that we wait because of the naysayers who are ready to pounce on him for any little thing therefore placing unmerited pressure on him.
  10. I appreciate the effort of presenting Stoman as a possibility. I`m not excited about him, I say we pass on him. I don`t think he`d be worth it
  11. There was a lot of talk about Gray earlier comparing him to Garret Cole. Lot of the numbers matched up then but w/ one big difference, he doesn`t come close to Cole`s spin rate or the movement of his 4 seamer. Moving away from Coors will be a great benefit, he`ll have to totally revamp his pitch selection & mind set. Although I`m not as high on him as before, I still think he could be a very good pitcher. I`d be for a trade depending who we trade for him. Colorado must be demoralized after this season, they probably want to rebuild
  12. This will be a crazy offseason, I really don`t have any idea how this FA will be only that probably many FA won`t be able to sign until late because the owners will wait until they see what the market settles at. I rethought my initial parole. I don`t think the Twins will go after any frontline ace especially this year (too bad, a guy can dream)) so maybe they sign Cruz & settle w/ Rosario & bring up the prospects later & go for a trade later before the deadline
  13. It`s really tough to balance the budget. I took the route of going after Bauer for the 1yr.. I believe he could help a lot our up coming pitching prospects beside being a work horse ace. It was tough not to keep Cruz but to keep the salary down, I thought to give all our high prospect position players a shot. I keep hearing that Lewis isn`t ready because he had only 33 games at AA. Jeffers had only 24 games & 87 ABs at AA but no one questions his MLB readiness. Plus Lewis won the AFL`s MVP, AFL is the creme of the minors. We really need his athleticism, to play CF, SS, 2B & 3B
  14. Things seems to be up in the air. I don`t know if they should trade Sano or not. But I like to say that Sano is not a bad 3B. Just the combination w/ Polanco & Arraez was bad. So if someone who`s looking for an average 3B w/ a big bat Sano could also be a fit. 2020 was a freak year, hope not a lot of credence is put into it. If we trade Sano we need to make a sensible trade, an area where we need a sizable upgrade which I really don`t see. Trevor Bauer is the only one on my list, I was hoping we could`ve traded for him before the deadline. Alas he`s a FA
  15. The Twins have been a big question mark all year. Great 2019 performances from players never realized in 2020 except Cruz & arguably Rosario. Although I`m not normal superstitious but baseball is, I never understood why the Twins wanted to bring back the baby blue uniforms to reminisce the "Twinkie" era. the auguration of the baby blues began w/ the Griffin / Carew fiasco. Carew was content to play out his years in MN but this fiasco changed all this & Carew could not leave fast enough. Following years were at best, mediocre. The notable thing about the baby blue jersey of old is that the Twins won the 1987 World Series in their first year not wearing the jersey. Their overall record in the years they wore the uniform was 1040-1170, a winning percentage of . 471. This is not what we want to replicate w/ our promising "Bomba Squad". Bringing back the baby blues started w/ covid19. I say we burn them & never bring them back
  16. I`d love to have an ace factory like CLE & LAD. They seem to have an eye & development for great pitchers. Twins don`t put value on high pitching prospects because they`re afraid to, like what was said they feel secure w/ grizzled veterans for a year or 2. I don`t agree w/ “TINSTAAPP” all prospect get hurt, have set backs & some never achieve their expectations although a pitching prospect needs more patience & confidence but in the long run it`s worth it when they come to fruition
  17. If we sign any FA I don`t think it`d be more than 1 yr. except maybe Clippard. I`d like & have a good chance of signing Cruz & Odo. I like May but I feel he`ll want to test the waters. If they are dead set not bringing up Lewis they`ll need to bring back Gonzalaz if the price is right. I`d not bring back Romo
  18. I agree. Umps are human so they make mistakes & are bias (some more than others). Some favor hitters, some pitchers, some players & some even teams & many times Twins get the short end of the deal. It`s hard to make the umps accountable so why not go w/ robo umps? 2020 would`ve been the political correct thing to do. I know there are bugs to work out but w/ the hyped will of distancing there should`ve been a way. Robo umps is the fair way, so everyone knows what to expect & no bias
  19. Fans should be back w/ NPs in 2021 but we need to figure in politics. Politics could throw a wrench in everything & that could drastically effect the payroll. If that`s the case I see FA take a big hit. Like I said , the fans should be back but if the scare continues which effects FA we could get Bauer at bargain basement. A person can dream
  20. PIT has a great eye on pitching talent & in the past not being able to develop it. I`ve always advocated that we need to capitalize on this. We can get great talent on the cheap. When it comes to PIT pitchers we can`t look at what they have done but rather what they can become. Cole & Glasnow never developed until they left PIT. HOU & TB didn`t look at what they did but what they could become & paid great dividends. It would`ve been great if we could`ve seen it picked them up. Although this will not always be, now w/ the new pitching coach so maybe this will be our last opportunity. W/ Sheldon at the helm we could maybe find a good trade w/ PIT rebuilding
  21. Thank you for outlining this dilemma for us. All players which are in play to return have served the Twins admirably & I salute them all. I see Romo, Gonzalaz, Adrianza & possibly Baily as gone & I think May would like to test waters of FA. I`d like Hill to come back for 1 more year but not as part of the rotation, more as relief & spot starting as well as Clippard & Dobnak. Some that are arbitrations will depend on how much they want. I hope they sign Cruz for 1yr. & resign Odo, I hope they can get Bauer. As utility, Lewis to me makes the most sense. He has a lot of upside & savvy & we need desperately his talent. I believe he`s ready but the Twins are holding him back because of service time or they think he`s not ready. Give him a legitimate shot, if he stumble we can always get another crap shoot (I forgot right now the name of the infielder we got earlier this year). I believe one day Gordon will become a MLB SS but I hope it`s not w/ the Twins because I see him as having trouble making that transition & at most being average & that`s not what we need.
  22. It`s refreshing to read your unbiased, common sense analyst. Agree w/ everything you wrote. I`d love to see the Twins go after Bauer as I said before he`d be a good fit for 1 yr. & yeah, we`ve needed reasonable CF insurance behind Buxton for some time now. Some say they`re against Lewis coming up to the majors because it`d cut into his playing time. If he`d be a utility player, he be very busy subbing for injuries, platooning & giving spot rest for the regulars. Give a him a chance, if for some reason he stumbles. I believe he has the confidence to bounce back. The experience & vote of confidence would be invaluable
  23. I agree w/ you but last year was a good year to trade away some redundant prospects but never happened (some people ideas of redundant are different, some people thought Jeffers was redundant). So unfortunately I don`t think that will happen.
  24. I didn`t say "they" I said "we" meaning the fans which maybe I should have said "seems like we" instead
  25. I heard that Garver`s problem was that his head was not in the right place & this year many player`s head weren`t in the right place. Before the season started there was a scandal about him innocently wearing the wrong mask. Something like that could easily mess w/ some one like Kepler. Hope next year his life would be less chaotic & more productive. Kepler has a lot of talent which can excel on both offensively & defensively trading him would be a big mistake. I`m not glad that this year finished early but glad it`s over. Canceling the AFL this is another stab in the heart
