  1. Just thinking & hoping that some of our prospects not to be selected in the Rule 5 draft. But then I put myself into the prospects shoes, & feel their excitement for the chance to prove themselves on the MLB level & living their dream. So I if the FO chose not to protect them, believing they have a long ways to break the barrier of MLB. Then I choose to be happy for the ones that get selected, (although as a fan & investor it's tough)
  2. I expected Miranda to be taken in '21 but fortunately he wasn't so I don't think all 5 would be taken either. But to me it's like playing Russian roulette. I'd rather not play that game.
  3. I had 9 Rule 5 prospects I wanted the Twins to protect, Legumina was #9. Very disappointed the Twins didn't do more to protect more. I expect 5 Twins to be selected away.
  4. I think when FO says we'll be creative, that means they're open for creative ideas from outside sources. This contract with Correa was advantagious to both parties, this opt out was because at the time we only needed him short term. If we want to contract a player for long term this contract won't work for our favor.
  5. We've already had our best value early in Garlic Sauce. We don't need any more.
  6. I really enjoyed this AFL season, Thanks Steve for reporting it to us. Just like to comment that even when Martin goes 1 for 6, that one hit usually impacts the team. He's turning into a true ramrod. Julien got robbed of MVP but I'm looking forward to him debuting this coming season. A great duo.
  7. "The only notable name likely to be non-tendered for the Twins' biggest need at shortstop is the man they traded alongside Josh Donaldson to have money available for Carlos Correa. There are still some names to help bolster the Twins' outfield and pitching rotation depth to avoid the troubles seen in 2022." Why didn't you mention Kiner-Falefa by name? He is the one I'm very interested in. I'm sorry the ones that you mentioned I'm not, IMO wouldn't be worth putting on the 40 man. Right now we have 0 serviceable SS, I'd liketo have 3, IKF fills that void. If we don't sign Correa, he could be a crucial piece to fall back on. If by chance Correa does sign, he can be a very viable back-up & utility player. He'll be a cheap 1yr. option, that's all we need.
  8. Because of the condition of rotation, prior to the season, this piggy-back idea was thrown out there by the FO and it was a great idea. Unfortunately it never became the "plan" and they tried fit square peg into a round hole & was doomed from the start because they tried to treat our rotation as a strong one. If they had actually made some form of piggy-backing as their plan the outcome would have been very different with much fewer injuries & much more effective innings.
  9. I got your drift afterwards but not before you had already started to quote me. I don't know any team that has only one closer to close out all their games. They usually have 1 or more quality RPs to supplement their main closer. What's the difference of having Rogers as a closer & a quality RP to supplement Rogers? To me there is a difference between great & elite and to me your standard is too high. Great is the closer that pitches great when he does pitch inside his profile and elite is the closer you discribe. And agree the Twins won't pay this for a closer, they have difficulty paying this for a starter.
  10. Bleacher Report estimates Kently Jensen at 2yrs/ $30MM and Rogers 3yrs/ $45MM. Not bad. If you you consider closing 6-7 in the WS as great what would consider as elite?
  11. IMO Rogers is a great closer when used within his profile. He's not elite because he can't pitch back to back games, so you need a safety valve to go to in those situations. Elite closers aren't that easy to come by, that's whymany teams will seek after Rogers & he'll will sign a pretty good contract this off season.
  12. I agree with your statement Ted "Talking with more than a few players over the years, a fluid bullpen provides a difficult situation to prepare for. Rather than having a relative understanding of your role and order onto the field, it’s a guessing game on any given night. Trying to figure out what situation you may be called upon for, and then quickly preparing for that at the drop of a hat is not an easy task." I think the BP should be more regimented much like the rotation is. There's advantage of a RP knowing when & how he's being used so he can better prepare for the game. Beyond this we have a unicorn in Duran who sees a firery situation and IMO automatically wants to enter the game & put the fire out. Thus he's ready to come into the game at any time. I also voice my hope that Lopez can come in be that lights out closer.
  13. I'd still go with Lewis because his potential has already been realized on the MLB level with his elite bat & glove plus his leadership & understanding of the game. Love them both.
  14. If MN sticks with stressing short relief (most very likely) then yes, Rogers would be great. Rogers was very much needed last season and as you stated he was great with SD at 1st until SD misuse of him caught up to him. Stat gazers gave up on him so I hoped that Rogers would be available on the cheap. But most MLB teams are not that stupid, he'd be courted by many eager teams that'll pay top dollar for him. MN doesn't like to spend on RPs and won't want to admit they were wrong, so no.
  15. Wow Seth that's a lot of prospects. Just think where we'd be if we hadn't made those trades last season. I'd like to protect the prospects thru strongly considered less the catchers and Schulfer. That's 9 prospects that I'd like to see develop, that's a lot. My philosophy is always upgrading thru trades, keep as many rule 5 prospects as possible. I'm against hoarding prospects where we have less need. So what will happen to Dobnak if we waive him & most likely not selected? Will he become a free agent?

    Lets go big!!

Love your line up Doc. Verlander & Correa would be great mentors to help leave their legacy with MN. Only fault I see is the defense. Right now we don't have any depth at 2B, after Polanco we have no one. Putting Arraez at 2B would be disasterous. Even when the shift was legal too many GB would bleed by Arraez on the right side. Now with it being illegal, any positive offense from Arraez would be completely wiped out & then some with him at 2B. Although many people don't like Arraez's profile at 1B or DH that's where his lack of range better suits him. If Kiriloff plays more 1B (where he's better suited), to give Arraez more ABs, they should work with him at 3B to improve his hands. I'm not against trading Polanco but Arraez & Gordon are not options; Martin, Juliens & Lewis won't be ready (depending on unproven AA prospects would be very irresponsible). If we do resolve to trade Polanco my choice for 2B would be Luis Guillorne ($1.5M) in a small trade with NYM. He profiles as a SS which could be a safety net if we don't land Correa. Guilorne's OBP is simular to Arraez. I'd also like an upgrade at catcher.
  17. Thanks Seth for Cardenas background info. When we finally picked Cardenas I was happy because he's a catcher that could have been picked much higher. He has been on my radar, expecting good things from him. A very well rounded catcher.
  18. I'm pretty ignorant in how they figure position player WAR, but by observing the range of WAR between HR hitters & defensive/ OBP hitters, there seems to be a hugh bias towards HR hitters baked into the formula. A SS who can hit HRs but can't field a lick has a higher WAR than a slick fielding, high OBP SS, thus deemed a better SS, This isn't acurate. IMO there should be a higher grading factor on defense especially for SS. CF & catching.
  19. And they were relatively healthy & effective as they pitched within their profiles.
  20. I remember very well that article you wrote last year. I also remember well the mention of some form of piggy-backing which I didn't see, which could have been a follow up article. It all made sense because of the reasons mentioned and even the pitchers the Twins were somewhat counted on never materialized (Thorpe & Dobnak as examples) not to mention Alcala. Piggy-backing is making use of the long relief corps. The problem wasn't that the experiment failed, the problem was the experiment (piggy-backing) was never incorporated. They continued the same old formula as if we had a very strong rotation & full supply of dominate short RPs. We had an abundant supply of profiled spot start/ long RP (hot out of ST Smeltzer, Ober, Winder, Sands and fragile arm Paddack) to begin the season. But the fact was that we had a weak rotation & poor short relief corp. If the experiment (type of piggy-backing) was indeed incorporated and if Duffy & Pagan were not profiled as closer and their mistake were quickly reversed. That'd vastly change our outcome, but it wasn't. Injuries, depleting our pitching resourses & ineffecency were the result of over relying on a poor short relief & over stretching the rotation. Entering '23, many of the same conditions for this hybrid pitching still exists. We don't have the money to have a stable full of work horses & an abundance of dominate RPs. You can't profile Maeda as a SP being almost 2 yrs of recouperating from TJ surgery (he was never been a work horse), hopefully Gray will be in condition after ST, Ryan will take that next step and Mahle to resemble more the SP we expected. Ober after an injured '23 shouldn't be profiled more than a spot starter/ long relief. Although an work horse is much needed, he won't solve all our problems. We still need the long relief/ spot SP role, especially when we have so many good candidates (Maeda, Ober, Varland, Winder, etc) most of them should be in MLB gaining experience and not wasting their time in AAA, SWR with a little bit more seasoning in AAA should be ready. The problem with this experiment was that it wasn't incorporated, let's not make the same mistake again.
  21. I forgive you, Steve, thank you for the much awaited report. Looks like Julien is wresting away the MVP away from Martin. Another question, why didn't Martin play in the All-star game? Because SS & CF are high profiled positions maybe he got nosed out by a full time SS & CF where Martin split time between the 2?
  22. Gleeman, you mentioned that Archer's hip (normally you'd think it was his Shoulder) was a concern? Did he have problems with his hip earlier in the season? If it was just at the end, IMO it'll more of a fatigue thing that can be eventually be overcome with strengthening. Thank you.
  23. '21 & '22 our BP stunk from the get go. Going to closers like Colume', Duffy & Pagan & keep going to them. time after, after time, after time when everyone knew that they that they were going to bomb (how disheartening) with an exception of maybe only a couple of RP you could really count on. But prior we had some pretty good BP. Even then they would count on a few best RPs & then BP would blow up (except maybe the shorten '20). I really like our BP this season but if we forgo long relief (and keep Varland, Winder and etc. in AAA) again we need to a few more very good short RPs and a couple of pretty good SP to shore up the management's habit, if we want a competitive year.
  24. Pressly is 33, will turn 34 next month, he has been in his prime since he's been in HOU, Alcala is 27 & won't be 28 until July, Celestino is 23 and won't be 24 for a few months yet. Celestino has played less than 1 & 1/2 seasons, Alcala has played some fragmented seasons totaling around 1 & 1/2 seasons. You can't compare 6 yrs of a player's WAR in his prime with those who's just starting to get a feel for their game. You can forget all those beginning years of Alcala & Celestino. Their last seasons they each made great strides in their game ready to break out. If you can't see that then I guess you're in the same boat that gave up on Hendriks.
