    The thing is that many folks on TD, yourself included, fear the loss of the "Pipeline" or "All of the teams best prospects" or just losing prospects in general. The Twins are not going to trade MLB players or the injured Lewis. This leaves a host of promising but unproven prospects, none of which rate among the top 100 in the game. The Twins can and should trade any 2-5 minor league players to acquire players to help this year. I cannot think of any player from the Twins system, other than Emmanuel Rodriguez, who should be protected. All of this also understands that Derek Falvey has not made any trades to acquire a player in season worth mentioning and we can all agree that he is not going to trade 4-7 of the teams top 10 prospects. He is likely to be open to some moves this July given the youth at the MLB level. Falvey needs to act, it is that simple. As far as winning goes, we should agree that this team is more fun than last year's squad. Nothing is guaranteed in the postseason and Twins fans need to get over/drink away their angst of the record losing streak in October. Having been a Twins fan since 1961, my preference is for competitive teams that get a shot as opposed to the never ending rebuilding models. I would rather watch the Twins lose again in the playoffs than watch them lose 90-110 games. They have a chance but need a couple of players to be better. If Canterino can replicate Duran in his initiation to MLB in late July, I'm good with that too. The current pitchers aren't the answer though which means it is Falvey Time.

    Fair question. Just a hunch that the balanced schedule along with the emergence of some highly rated prospects on several teams make the field more competitive for the Twins going forward. The trades I would hope for would bring in some players that could contribute now and in the future. I'll leave it to Falvey to do the damage but the Twins have youth on their MLB roster which should allow them latitude as to which minor league players to move.

    Analytics are fun in the way they attempt to quantify everything but life and baseball don't always fit on to those statistical sheets. I'm pro analytics but more pro experience and the result will tell you that a good base runner who can steal a bag does have some impact on a pitcher. A guy who takes the extra bag is important. The ability to score from second base on a single or go first to third adds up over a season but would be difficult to tie down. Kepler, Polanco, and Buxton are good base runners but the Twins do not have them stealing bases for various reasons. Most of the other Twins are not very good at running the bases but their youth may be a factor. Good base running is important but less important than good fielding.

    The goal of any trade, for me, is to increase the talent on the current team. Kepler stays in that mode of thought. Ober has frustrated me with his injuries. He still projects to be a better pitcher than anyone in the minor leagues and so while I'm willing to trade Ober in the right deal, my preference is to move minoe league players. Lewis and E. Rodriguez are off the table, but all others are fair game. The 2023-2025 Twins would not be harmed by trading 3-6 prospects. The future is largely already on the roster or injured..

    The New York Yankees traded a reliever for a top prospect, Gleybar Torres. The Twins don't have anyone who is in the category that Torres was at that time. The Cubs would do that trade for that little relief pitcher they acquired every single time. There wasn't any guarantee then and there aren't any now either. The Twins need some (two) relievers. Falvey isn't going to trade Lewis or anyone on the MLB roster. A trade should be accomplished.

    Wallner should get a boost to St. Paul by next Monday, after the break. Matt has put himself in a good position by improving in several areas. Now he deserves an opportunity to see what more experienced pitchers bring at AAA.

    The starting pitching has been better than just about anyone expected to this point. Duran and Jax have saved the bullpen, but others have had some decent games too. If Winder can get strong and Ober can return there is some hope for the pitching to recover from this recent spell. The bullpen will need one person to get it together - Derek Falvey must deliver with a couple of trades for relievers. A good starter would help but a couple of relievers are needed. Hopefully the Twins can close out this last week with some flair, and wins too.

    Happy for both Luis and Byron. Well done. Love the video of the presentation by Rocco. You can hear all of the Latin players and see and feel the excitement from those in the room. Cool.

    The entire blockage for many Twins fans is overpaying for a player in a trade. Falvey will need to decide pretty soon if he expects the Twins to have a good showing after the All-Star Game. The pitching is getting shaky. We know that Royce Lewis isn't going to be traded and they should not consider trading Emmanuel Rodriguez, but anyone else from the the minor leagues is fair game. I'm not a gambler but bet the odds are better for the Twins this year than they will be in the next two or three years. Get some pitching Falvey, please.

    The future .... C = Jeffers and hopefully some help via FA/a trade 1B = well covered with Kirilloff and Arraez leading the position and Miranda too 2B = Polanco is taken for granted and Arraez still has a small glove for 2B 3B = Miranda and/or Lewis can handle the position SS = Correa? Maybe Lewis takes care of SS, but don't quit on Palacios LF = Fa / trade or Larnach CF = Buxton with Gordon/ Celestino still worth some playing time RF = Kepler, Larnach E. Rodriguez is the Twins best prospect but a few years away. So the Twins could use some new blood in time but while I'm not enamored with any of the trades suggested in the post, it is a well thought out exercise and doesn't do anything to harm the future of the MLB team. The Twins can certainly afford to part with both position players and pitchers in a few trades because their budget and roster configuration is pretty stable and the young players are already sprinkled across the roster. All of Martin, Cavaco, Severino, Wallner, Julien, Contreras, Mercedes, Steer, Sabato, Enlow, Enriquez, and Strotman are just hopefuls missing from any lists of top prospects across MLB. Matt Wallner and Steer may develop but all of the others are blocked by multiple better baseball players. The Twins will need to dangle some of their young pitchers to acquire a couple decent pitchers.

    Sometimes a team needs to put themselves in the action. In the trades listed only Ramos was a loss and Mauer was entrenched at the time. Falvey was enamored with Paddack three years ago (me too) and didn't update the cautions (I did). Trading Rogers to San Diego was a terrible idea that cost the Twins a good reliever and $11 million. Now it is time to add a couple of relievers and the team has plenty of minor league prospect capital to dangle, especially considering the youth of the mlb roster and Lewis block many of the milb guys.

    Robertson - ok, but I'm looking for others guys than you list but your guys may be fine too. Mahle is a no and I'm good with the starters. The Twins need to shoot for a guy like Bednar. Maybe SWR and a young prospect lower rated will do it. These guesses are always iffy in July.

    Ryan is looking like a decent pitcher but he does not project (imho) as an important dominant player. The Twins get 4-6 innings of competitive ball and occasionally 7 innings from Joe Ryan. That is good, but he is susceptible to patient hitters with power. Smeltzer has similar stats; he is good too. I get your choice of Buxton if he manages to get 500 at bats. Arraez has been pretty much in control of most pitchers and has added a little bit of power which means his value is strong. Duran has shown an ability to command several excellent pitches and throws strikes and he is evolving into a dominant force for the bullpen. The Twins starters have been quite good this year thus far but they could still use a horse like Verlander or Cole. I'm not wanting those two but am hopeful for either a member of the system to develop or a trade for someone, The latter seems unlikely. While I like the current group of young pitchers and prospects there isn't really a top flight pitcher in the group. So, maybe another position player takes the place of Ryan as a core four member in your article. Alex Kirilloff, Jose Miranda, and Royce Lewis all seem like players that could really be excellent.

    Pagan looks tantalizing with his fastball and other pitches, but we are seeing why San Diego may have cut him in Spring Training if the Twins had not become the Padres benefactors. I hope he does better, he throws some good pitches but then ... wham. I'm still hoping too.

    Agree with the top five although I love how Kirilloff, Miranda, and Urshela are contributing. I would put the order a bit different: Arraez, Polanco, Correa, Buxton, and Kepler. Sanchez and Jeffers can do damage from time to time and everyone has to be pretty pleased with the contributions of Celestino, Gordon, and Garlick.

    Yes, the Twins do need to add a couple of arms for their bullpen, either from their own system or via trade(s). The Twins lost Rogers in a real head shaker of a move and I was super critical at the time. I have moved on and there isn't any more time to look back. Falvey must look forward and find a way to help this team in 2022.

    Nick Gordon is a really good guy to have on your roster. He may not be a starter but his talents fill so many roles that his value is large. The Twins have had too many years where their 25th player (26th in this case) was either a speedster/defensive player or a powerful pinch hitter who was weak in a number of areas. Gordon is a keeper with his current level of skills.

    The Twins are on a 90 win pace. There have been some beautiful wins and some ugly losses but baseball can be messy. The consensus was that the Twins were a .500 team until they added Correa. Optimist hoped for 83-87 wins. This past week saw the Twins face some emerging talent from Cleveland and Baltimore. Chicago is hoping to sweep the Twins and Texas will be a challenge as well. I will look for a 4-2 record on this road trip but be content with 3-3. The Twins do need their young guys like Miranda, Kirilloff, and Celestino to be tough outs and hurt bad pitches and their stars need to shine too. It is a race to the All Star break now when every team makes their internal assessments.
