    I did not understand why the Twins kept Floro. Now in a game that is worth competing for I do not understand why the Twins chose to use Floro versus Tampa Bay. There is a reason that Miami no longer wanted Floro on their team. The Marlins are trying to make it into the playoffs and Floro is not a guy who is helpful in an MLB competitive game.

    This has been discussed a hundred times. We all want Julien to hit some of those pitches. However, Julien does not hit pitches out of the strike zone or on the border of the zone very well. He will be out of the league in no time if he starts swinging at borderline pitches, so he takes those pitches.

    Rays are not offering at many pitches out of the zone, the Twins did in the first inning. Swing at strikes and let the balls go. A very difficult task to be sure.

    The playoffs are for the best players. Unless Ober has not been helped by the recent respite from pitching there is a clear starting pitcher order: Lopez, Gray, Ryan, Ober. Nobody needs to go on short rest. Our starters have been good all year. The bats need to show strong.

    FWIW, Paddack finished his start last week with two outs and two on base. The relief pitcher gave up a three run home run, thus the two runs given up by Paddack. We cannot know what Paddack offers until he has appeared in several games for the Twins. which seems unlikely.

    The Twins will be challenged by Tampa Bay because the Rays are among the top five teams in baseball and attempting to catch Baltimore in the standings. The offense needs to keep scoring a bunch of runs and the White Sox series should allow them an opportunity.

    Did Gladden or Provus comment on it? Dick is pretty clueless and the camera did not show us anything to show a mistake. Perhaps someone else saw something to indicate what happened but it was a big out and tough for Kirilloff to lose a base hit too.

    Pablo is so much fun to watch pitch and he is also such a well spoken person in interviews. Wallner seems to have forgotten about left field and has resorted to more uppercuts as well. He doesn't look like a tough out right now. Julien is in a slump but still is giving pitchers a headache by fouling off pitches and taking walks. He sure is missing some pitches that look like he should mash though, which means he is in a slump.

    While I'm hoping he might swing at that pitch in that situation, Pablo Lopez proved what happens when most batters swing at pitches out of the strike zone. Even pitches a half inch off of the plate reduce chances for contact. Julien does not successfully hit those pitches in any event and he is in a slump right now making it even more unlikely. Hitting a baseball is really hard. Although we all might want Julien to swing in that situation, the pitch was not one he is likely to hit so he takes it.

    Pablo Lopez has proven himself to be the pitcher the Twins hoped he would be. What an excellent performance today.

    Wish Julien would get hot in time for the playoffs but his ability to make pitchers miserable is still quite valuable.

    That may have been a part of writing the article ... the Twins certainly could use a left-handed pitcher in the bullpen capable of getting outs. Even with such a limited usage, Funderburk appears to be the only option right now. No question, the Twins need to put Funderburk on the mound as often as possible to determine if he is going to be a viable relief pitcher for the team in October. A series of good outings from Funderburk will make his name worth more discussion though. FWIW, Funderburk was excellent in AAA this year and it is somewhat confounding why he was not considered for MLB duty earlier this season.

    Totally agree. Ober deserves an MLB uniform. I do believe he needed a little time off. He is ready to pitch now though.

    Certainly, Kody has pitched well. There may be some hesitancy to put Funderburk on the postseason roster given his limited experience and occasional lapses with his control. However, the Twins could really use another left handed pitcher in the pen, So I hope he is on the team in October. I think Kody will get plenty of usage from now until the regular season ends to determine how ready he is for a roster spot.

    Jenkins and likely all other Mussels end their season on Sunday. Cedar Rapids is already pretty full of players. It doesn't seem like players will move up to A+ for those playoffs. The offseason will allow Jenkins to prepare for 2024 and the possibility of a Jackson Holliday type development..

    Can Buxton get healthy? Yes, he can. Can Buxton get healthy enough to play baseball again in 2023? I cannot imagine how this can happen. So no. Can Buxton get healthy enough to play baseball again in 2024. Yes, it seems possible at least. Time will tell.

    Gallo has not been used much lately and as long as the roster position is not needed it just isn't necessary to cut Joey. While I was totally opposed immediately to the signing of Gallo last winter, I'm not seeing any reason right now to DFA Gallo. Maybe things change and his roster spot is needed, but Luplow and a couple of relief pitchers are not really needed either. That said, I don't believe there is much call for him to be on a playoff roster.

    Some of the excitement regarding both Austin Martin and Brooks Lee is attached to their contact skills being aligned with an ability to hit the ball in the gaps with occasional over the fence power. Julien, Wallner, and Correa can all improve their K-rate. I agree that high K-rates for a team are neither inherently tired to problems scoring runs nor sustainable. Walker Jenkins is off to a fantastic start in his career with a low K-rate. Emmanuel Rodriguez has the eye and bat speed to reduce his K-rate as well with a little more experience and discipline. Finally, the two strike approach does not mean one needs to abandon vicious swings early in the count on juicy pitches; it would be nice to see the Twins make contact in those situations.

    The Twins have a few players whose values may be a barrier to Jose Miranda finding a spot on the Twins roster. Guys like Martin, Helman, Pratto, Gordon, and Castro all bring more speed and versatility to play than Miranda. Miranda will play in the majors again though.

    Ober was still pitching ok when the Twins decided to send him to St. Paul. Bailey was clearly not as sharp however and even if he felt good the pitches were beginning to miss by just enough to be a concern. I'm not sure why Ober wasn't put on the IL with "tired arm", but it was likely a decision based on not wanting Ober off the team for 15 days as opposed to available as needed from the Saints roster. Ober likely gets one start in St. Paul before he is called back. I'm thinking Ober starts a playoff game if the Twins advance beyond the first round with Maeda ready in relief. There are still 22 games left in the season. Plenty of action to go. The Twins made fair decisions even if it might stink that Ober misses some MLB roster days.

    The goal of offense is to score runs. Julien and Wallner have senn their batting averages drop but still have high on base numbers in September. Additionally, both are proving very difficult for pitchers, having long at bats which wears down opponents. Getting into bullpens because of long at bats has proven to be pretty successful for the Twins and Julien and Wallner have been good at having prolonged at bats. I do agree that it would be nice to see both guys hit for a higher average though.

    The comparison to Solano is right on. Miranda has hit with authority as noted by Nick in the article. There will be interest in those skills from an MLB team. First, Jose needs to be healthy and prove it at the minor league level though. Solano has shown he can hit coming off the bench, which is not an easy task. Can Miranda do the same as a PH/DH/1B/3B guy? Both Miranda and Larnach may be attractive as second or third pieces in a trade as well. Hard to predict what teams look at the Twins players for value.
