Pretty clear he forgot how many outs there were after the long inning and then the pitching change. I believe it is SOP for base coaches to make contact with runners on base after a delay like that to remind them of the number of outs. Not clear if that was done here or not, but should be. Too bad, might need that extra run to be sure vs. this lineup.
I know this is an utterly visceral observation, but Larnach just looks so darn calm and confident at the plate now. I think that carries over to his play in the field, too.
Celestino needs to catch that ball. Difficult play, but ball hit him right in the glove. Would have been a double play as Hicks was already to 2nd base. CANNOT give loaded teams all the extra outs and extra bases without getting penalized....
Certainly this is a better team than last year, just disappointing they appear to be completely on a different level from the top teams in baseball. The rich get richer, Man, this league needs a real salary cap and floor like the NFL....
Duffy needs a vacation.
Twins are simply not as good as the Yankees, the Dodgers, and the Astros. (Probably not vs. the Mets, either).
Not fun to accept, but that is the reality. We don't have the talent of these teams, not even close.
I was curious as to when some of the players could come off the DL and looked at the ESPN list of those currently on the DL for the Twins. Note that a few of these players are Day to day vs. formally on the DL:
Josh Winder
Royce Lewis
Tim Beckham (AAA)
Sonny Gray (so far, day to day)
Max Kepler (ditto)
Gary Sanches (more ditto)
Danny Coulombe
Gilberto Celestino
Jorge Alcala
Joe Ryan
Edouard Julien (AAA, day to day)
Cody Stashak
Chris Paddack
Miguel Sano
Jhon Romero
Blayne Enlow (minors, day to day)
Kent Maeda
Randy Dobnak
Plus 3 other minor leaguers day to day.
That seems like a MASSIVE number of injuries piling up. 2 of these of CV-19 (Ryan and Celestino), so hopefully they come back well and soon.
Rocco is going to earn his salary this next 18 games in 17 days trying to cobble this all together. Pray for rain!
I have not seen a side angle of the collision with the wall. However, it looks like he was running full speed and then slammed his left shoulder into the wall while his weight was loaded on his right leg and knee. This transmitted tons of force down on the tibial plateau (the floor of the knee joint formed by the union of the tibula and fibula).
Think of it this way. When you simply walk up a flight of stairs you are putting 4-5 times your body weight worth of force on your knees with each stop. Multiply that by many more when running full speed and then hitting a basically immovable object.
Hope he heals fully and quickly, but it will be July until he is going to be playing again in all likelihood. Hope it is sooner!
Twins deserved to lose that game. Zero clutch hitting--and some bad luck on some balls that were smoked, and let a poor team hang around and win.
Does ANYONE like the extra inning format that last 2 years. It is complete horsebleep. Cannot believe MLB lets games be decided this way. I am glad it did not matter here.
2 observations:
1) I like the YouTube announcing duo. They do a nice job.
2) Twins should have at least 6 runs right now, and they are risking letting this one slip away. Need to close the deal.
This young man looks completely comfortable facing MLB pitching. So impressive.
Play Lewis at 3B when Correa comes back? How can you send him back down?
Dodgers and Astros series (so far) have confirmed that Twins are not competitive with top teams----yet.
Twins hitters 3 for 21 with RISP in this series. Not going to get it done against anybody.....
Urshela is only signed for 2022 at $6.5M. Logical move would be to promote Lewis when appropriate and let him play every day at 3B and giving Correa some days off at SS. Urshela and Miranda can back up 3B. Urshela might be trade candidate if Lewis flourishes at the MLB level.
