  1. Well, that's that. Burrows DFA'd before the 3rd inning? Can you do that and bring someone else over from St. Paul for the latter stages of this "game", aka, glorified BP for the Sox?
  2. Sheesh Sano. This is getting embarrassing early....Netflix is calling me soon for my entertainment purposes.
  3. Nice of Burrows to throw some BP for the Sox. They, at least, are having fun. Young man is not fooling anyone....
  4. Like I said, bandbox stadium....
  5. Sheesh, Alvarez looks a monster. He looks like he is playing Little League in that bandbox of a stadium. Good job holding him to a single....
  6. Question: Can a team and player negotiate a FA contract if his current team makes a QO? If so, I would think a prudent agent would want to explore what kind of multi-year offers a pitcher like Syndergaard would receive before making a decision whether to accept a QO? Also, does Syndergaard like pitching in the big market? Is that important to him?
  7. Dan, are you sure SWR is eligible in 2022, or is that a typo?
  8. Man, Kepler looks lost at the plate right now. Lost. Going below the Mendoza line....
  9. Garver's swing looks so much better than earlier in year. Very compact and efficient. Martin 0-2 in Wichita debut. Obvious bust.
  10. Sorry TwinsDr2021, I drafted a detailed reply and it disappeared when I posted it. I will keep this shorter. Here are the guys likely to be jettisoned from the current 40 man roster, either released or FA's: Burrows; Colome; Farrell; Gant; Law; Minaya; Pineda; Simmons; Cave; on the bubble Smeltzer; Thorpe; Gordon; Astudillo; Garlick; Refsnyder. That is potentially up to 15 players, absent trades, or 37.5% of their roster. So I see plenty of roster flexibility to avoid losing the next Baddoo in the Rule V draft.
  11. I would note that the Rule 5 MLB draft is at the winter meeting in early December each year, so if there is a roster pinch the Twins could sign FA's after that draft to protect themselves a bit....Not that I think the Twins will actually have a roster pinch, as they will have a lot of dead wood to clean off the 40 man roster at the end of the year, if not earlier.
  12. I am a bit puzzled on the "sub-par stuff" statement. He needs to work on more bite on his breaking ball, but the FB plays well, especially up in the zone. The national announcer for the Cards game mentioned his release point is 1.5 foot closer to the plate than the MLB average, due to his extreme length. That works out that his FB is reaching the plate the same as an average pitcher throwing 3 mph faster. So 92 is 95, etc. Nothing wrong with that velo as long as he locates it well. I like him, hope he continues to improve, and he could develop into a very nice pitcher for the Twins.
  13. So I checked the math on the different release points for Ober vs. the MLB average. MLB average release is 54 feet from home plate. Ober releases 52.5 feet from home plate due to his length. If Ober throws a 91 mph FB it takes .393 seconds to get there. If an MLB average pitcher throws a 94 mph FB, it takes .391 seconds to get there. So Ober's 91-92 FB is equivilant to a 94-95 mph FB from a league average-sized pitcher. Pretty cool observation by the announcing team.
  14. I like this national broadcast duo. Some fresh comments on our players is a breath of fresh air.
  15. Well, we all navigated an interesting, sometimes sad, trade deadline. Jose gone, probably for good. The odds of him re-signing here after 2022 are miniscule. We do not know how these last 2 months will unfold. There is a lot of sentiment to get some of the young pitchers a chance at the MLB level to start assessing them. What moves to make this offseason based upon what we know today? My 2 cents: 1) Re-sign Nelson Cruz, and indicate he is welcome on our MLB coaching staff when he wants to finish his career; 2) Try very hard to sign Syndegaard in FA. His value should be depressed by the TJS, but he has ace potential and think of the marketing opportunities for Thor in Minnesota!; 3) Re-sign Pineda. I would offer him the exact same contract; 4) Sign one or two QUALITY BP arms, rather than 4-5 lousy reclamation projects; 5) Extend Taylor Rogers; 6) Extend Buxton unless it is impossible, then trade him for max value, hopefully to a NL team. Thoughts?
  16. Duffy has been downright bad this year. What the heck happened? Did the league just catch up to him? Is he hurt?
  17. Martin, great bat skills, but where does he play in the field? SS, 2nd, CF?
  18. Martinez and Woods-Richardson seem to be premium prospects. Pearson could be total stud, but core injury issues on a SP worry me a bit. Great arm though. Lot to like in that farm system....
  19. San Diego better get Berrios and Donaldson to compete with LA, no?
  20. Duffy is on the IL and in no way helps out the Dodgers SP rotation now, when they need it. Berrios is slated to pitch Friday night. Still time for him to catch a flight to the left coast. Not saying the Dodgers will trade for Berrios, but Duffy should have nothing to do with that decision.
  21. I like Pepiot, Lux not so much. Light hitting, questionable fielding SS? Why? Pepiot as headliner for Berrios is insufficient. Period. He should be the second piece.
  22. OK, Rosenthal now reporting Scherzer to the Padres. LADodgers, Seattle, Toronto, Boston, or San Fran. Give us your best shot for Berrios....San Diego, too, if they want both of them.
  23. Well, May is not going to be in the 2022 SP rotation for the Dodgers until late in the year at the earliest. Will not pitch until summer, ready by the Fall? And who knows how TJS will impact his velo and control? May is a huge boom or bust target. Substitute Miller and/or Pepiot in some combination for less upside, no injury (yet). I want pitching from the Dodgers.
  24. Wow, some of you are selling Berrios short, IMO. I posted this on another thread, but Berrios plus Rogers for May and Gray and a lottery pick. They are getting a 27 year old solid, dependable starter who (knock wood), always takes the ball every 5 days. After the season the Dodgers have had with SP reliability, that is valuable as can be. Their rotation is in tatters. Happy to include Pineida, too, for more players. However, I suspect Scherzer ends up in Dodger blue at the end of the trade period....the rich get richer. Finally, I, too, want Syndergaard as top FA target. Thor, Gray, Blazer, Winder, Maeda and, later, May, and we have a heck of a SP staff to work from Light years improvement over any SP staff in recent memory.
