Id be happy if we added a reliever at this point. Were almost to the point of bringing up our AA pitching prospects and Sledgers has been real good in AAA lately. Im also fine if we trade a few prospects for a controllable starter but i dont want to trade Gordon at this point though.
I imagine that comment is out of frustration. He is 8 wins from becomming the winningest pitcher from the Dominican Republic. I'm sure if he can pitch 6 innings and keep is in the game his next start he will keep going. If he gets released he can say he was thinking about it a while and maybe instead of getting released he retires.
Sledgers could get a chance if a pitcher is needed sooner. I think Stephan could get called up this year and definately will be here next year. My question is if he has to be added to the 40 man roster over the winter. If not expext to see him next year. We have other prospects we need to protect first. If he has to be on the 40 man this winter then he could.make his way up this year.
Lets see Colon go 6-4 over 13 or 14 starts averaging 6.33 innings with a 4.5 era and helping us narrowly beat cleveland for the division. He is more likely to do that then be a total loss. If he is a total loss ...he is out after a few starts and we bring up one of the kids....he buys us some time for them and could be more.
The signing also gives us a potential back of rotation pitcher without giving up assets. Now if we can get a reliever we can run with what we have and everyone should be happy. If Colon is good we stay in contention and those who wanted us to acquire a pitcher are happy and those who want us to horde assets are happy too. If Colon is terrible well then our season will likely be over too and no need to aquire anyone. Thus talent horders are happy and we wont be in contention anymore so we can wait to trade talent. And the rest of us will be disappointed if we fall out of the race but Colon seems like a great gamble for the price so those who wanted a transaction atleast got that.
I think Colon is the rotation upgrade and if were lucky they may trade for a reliever. I dont see tbe front office doing much else till the offseason. Maybe bring Gonsalves up for September...
Didnt the Twins draft some high upside guys in the late rounds in case of emergency? If so i would like to see if the Twins offered one of them 600k or so to see if they sign.
With his failure at cedar rapids and bouncing back should give him and the front office the confidence to know a set back in his first start is not the end of the world and he should be able to handle it.
My line up was similar. In AL i had Smoak at 1B. SS was from Texas Rangers and DH Cruz. In NL i had Arrendo at 3rd, Washington 1B, and Stanton instead of Bellanger

Vargas would be the one likely demoted in this scenario to get consistant playing time. Also Granite could rotate through DH as well if he keeps hitting .360 up here
Bullpen arms in trades are not too expensive in terms of prospects. If we can acquire o e with a 25th team ranked prospect or so we should bee willing to do that for a strong rental. Its ok to give up more with years more control. But we shouldnt give up too much either.
