I wonder if we could get Gray with less prospect haul by taking on a reliever contract? They have 3 I'm sure they want to get rid of. Gray, Davis, and $3-5 million for Rooker, Romero, and Harper or another fringe prospect

Cron is likely to earn 7.7 million in arbitration. I'm sure he would like to come back. I can see the Twins offering an incentive based contract. Like 6 million base with 2 million based on games played/ plate appearances. I think the Twins would like to keep Gonzales as a supersub to fill in for injuries and resting others. If you are set o. Releasing Cron we need a replacement 3rd baseman. Also I thought Sano was not good at digging out bad throws at 1B making him a bad 1B defensively. This in itself is a long debate to be had here on Twinsdaily complete with video and in depth Parker Hageman analysis (nudge, nudge).

Front Page: Who Could the Twins Trade this Offseason?
Brandon replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As it stands our team really doesn't have many holes. 2 rotation spots and a bullpen spot. So I wouldn't want to trade from the major league team. I can see us trading prospects for a starter or a reliever and that's about it we will sign a backup C for a season it looks like. Someone who can compete with Astudillo and there is the Cron decision. I think we offer a lower guarantee with incentives to slightly more as insurance maybe 7 million with 1 million incentives or 6.5 million with 1 million.... Or sign Moustakas for 4 year 39-45 million. I think Cron is a safer low cost gamble. We have in house options and 3 hitters who could be ready at some point next season so why spend more there. So after looking at it, we will likely trade for a SP if we get rebuffed in FA. And if we do that it will cost prospects.- 43 replies

Front Page: The Twins Shouldn't Give Up on Rosario
Brandon replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Since I can't like this post on my phone, I will just state it. And while I agree with this statement, I was only pointing out why we would trade Eddie. If we can get enough pitching from him to justify going down to 20 HR and 80 RBI at a fraction of the cost it could be justified...I imagine there would be more to a trade like this... -

Brandon replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the reasons you hear trade Eddie has more to do with other factors like 2 years if control at a price of 22-25 million. We have several strong prospects on the way and several solid players who can hold the position till the prospects are ready at a fraction of the price. And I only hear we should trade for pitching. So if.trading Eddy helps us get better pitching either through trade or cost savings, the we should do it. Otherwise we can wait. -
I like it. Kind of like when the Twins signed Morneau to his front loaded extension way back in the day.

Kershaw isn't going anywhere. But another ace who could be available is David Price. He has three years left on his contract and spent most of his career in the AL East. Since Boston would welcome the trade the Twins wouldn't have to give up too much. But Boston would need to pay some of the remainder of the contract maybe $21 million making his remaining contract a three year $25 million per year which is a fair salary for him at this stage.
-
I think a 2 year 12 million is what he is worth. If he can get 550-650 PA during the 2 years, wouldn't be too far off if he was starting somewhere else. 750-850. Plus the lighter load may allow him to go an extra year or two. He has already made close to 40 million for his career and a 2 year deal will push him past 50. Also with the Twins likely going to the playoffs that has to be a factor to consider. If I were him, I would at least be interested in a 40-50% playing time here on a 2 year deal if the money was right.

There is a pitcher with a large 3 year commitment remaining on a team that wants to cut payroll. If Boston would pay down Price's contact a little we probably wouldn't have to give up too much talent to get him. Have us responsible for 4 years 60-75 million of the 96 million and Boston gets to lower their payroll.

Front Page: State of the Twins Rotation
Brandon replied to Patrick Wozniak's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't forget Wells is coming back from injury and I think he was Twins Daily pitcher of the year last year.... -
Cron hit well before his injury. If he is good to go by Spring training then I say bring him back for 1 more year. Castro. I would sign him to a 2 year contract at around 6-7 million per season to be the 40-45% of the time Catcher. Romo a 1 year 3-4 million is fine. more than that probably not. Schoop and Perez are definitely not coming back. though Schoop did a good job so he should get offers this offseason. Gibson, Odorizzi. and Pineda. I am fine with bringing back 1, 2, or all 3. Once a player like Gibson has been around a long time, I like to see them stick around even past their shelf life so I will leave that decision to management but I am fine with bringing Gibson back because I think he can be a solid 4th starter for us. One who could win 12-15 games in a season. It all depends on costs and other moves made.

Front Page: Series Preview: Dining in the Doldrums
Brandon replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What is the official HR count vs the Tanks HR count. We should have a post with the HR count watch vs Yanks. -
I wonder if the Twins take 13 pitchers and make the third game a straight bullpen game see if Dobnak can get 4-5 good innings and go with the pen the rest of the way.

We are 3 HRs away from having 5 players with 30 HRs on a team. That has to be a record of some kind? I know the Dodgers with 4 was a big deal once upon a time. The 87 Twins just missed that feat when Puckett only had 28 HRs.

I think he should be a candidate to resign because 1. He is a good pitcher and 2. because he wants to be here. I like all 3 of Pineda, Gibson and Odorizzi. I hope we sign 1 if not 2 or three. I could see the offseason going like this. Odorizzi accepts the Qualifying Offer, Pineda signs a reasonable 2 year 26 million contract because of the Suspension and Gibson resigns on a 2 year contract 26 million w/ incentives and option year with a reachable trigger like 350 innings during the 2 years guarantees third at 15 million, because of his illness.

The move for LaMarre makes perfect sense. This keeps us from using a 40 man spot on Killeroff this off-season in exchange for maybe 30-40 plate appearances for a liked player who performed at AAA. LaMarre will be outrighted off the 40 man after the season. There is no suspense on that. He gets a Major league check and a chance to show he still can play up here, so a decent opportunity to be a backup somewhere next season. Everyone wins

Front Page: Twins 2019 Minor League Hitter of the Year
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like that all of the Twins Minor League hitters of the year from 2012 through 2017 have all hit at least 20+ HRs in a Major League season. 2018 hitter of the year is pending.- 31 replies

Well it seems our hitters are comming back and we have 13 games against the bottom feeders so I still think we have a fighting chance. I also hope we can hit some other HR goals. We currently have 3 players who have hit 30 HRs. if Sano and Rosario can make it that would be 5 players on a team which i think is a record. we also have I think 8 20 HR hitters. I think that is a record too. so if the Yanks do have the most for the season we can end up with several other team HR records too. Although I hate the Yanks and I will be rooting for the HRs the rest of the season so we can win by one. So the bottom line is we will likely tie the Yankees for the most HRs in a season.

I can see the Twins signing 1 solid starter like Odorizzi, Keuchel, Zack Wheeler, or Cole Hammels Gibson is a wild card as we don't fully know how his injury/ illness will affect him moving forward. But I think the Twins would like to keep him if the price is reasonable. I can also see the Twins going after an innings eater like Homer Bailey, and Tanner Roark, Cashner, someone who is less expensive but solid/ ok. Picking up Martin's option and going with a rookie. If they can sign Pineda or some pitcher coming off injury on a low cost deal I think they would do that too. Or sign someone to compete for a spot either on a minor league or spring invite deal but the money would be a factor. With their offense, the Twins would only need to find league average starters to be competitive. you know like back in the Terry Ryan era.
