    Larnach is a player type that has value for many teams, especially if someone out there thinks they can unlock something. I have no problem moving on here, but would expect a high-end flier or a Larnach-comparable type player in return at a different position (thinking Catcher2 or middle infielder).

    I have read the article, but skipped the comments... Regardless of what you think of the FO, they are very low on the "blame" totem pole. If the Twins were successful, the would be very low on the "credit" totem pole. The FO has had their hands tied for the better part of two years now, being unable to acquire salary or make fundamental changes to the team due to a pending sale. IMO opinion, they have done a decent job with prospects (both draft and acquisitions), though the jury is still out on the long term MLB success of the current wave. I can understand the heat on Rocco and his group. We-as-fans see many perceived questionable decisions, though we generally do not have the context to understand why these decisions are made. Injuries and performance basically rule the day. Players not performing consistently have made this team painful to watch at time.

    The Dodgers bullpen is in shambles. Make them overpay for one of Duran/Jax.

    If the Twins are 100% convinced Ryan will be gone after two years, then I agree the option needs to be considered. When to pull that trigger is a great question. Do the Twins think they could be a playoff team next year? (No need to open that can of comment worms.) If they believe they are close, then you wait. If not, you listen to offers

    At worst, Ryan is a top 15 SP in baseball right now. They are unicorns. You do not get them very often. Since 2000, the Twins have had Santana, Gray, Lopez, and Ryan in that category (maybe Barrios). 2 more cheap years of him? I truly do not know what an equitable package would look like. Two top 5 prospects and a couple of young mlb guys that fill the Twins holes? Still doesn't feel like enough...

    You do realize that Ryan is a high end SP1 right now that is still young with 2+ years left of team control. The haul for Ryan better be higher than the proposed deal. I have said this before: If the Twins trade Ryan, they might as well blow up the entire team and trade anyone with more than 2 years of service. Moving Ryan signifies a complete rebuild vs retool, especially with the upcoming SP (SWR, Festa, Matthews) struggling. I do not see a package strong enough right now to offset his value (unless the Twins are 100% convinced they will not be able to extend him before FA).

    I disagree with most of the comments here. If you decide to trade anyone at this point, you trade for the best available player(s) regardless of position. If the Twins are only willing to make a move that included Rushing, it would back them into a negotiation corner. You take the best players you can get and deal with the fallout later. Minnesota has strong OF prospects. Depending on how the Twins view the Dodgers prospects, if De Paula or Hope are available in this type of move, you take them. Even if that means you don't get Rushing.

    I was all set to say Max Kepler then the article stole my thunder... Any moves the Twins make like this (Bader, Coulombe, Castro) should be for the best players available, regardless of position. Don't pigeon hole them into taking a "defensively flexible" guy. If the best player is a SS or CF, you take them and adjust later.

    Could easily see the Twins as a buyer here. Not so much as a "win now" trade, but rather a prospect for upgrade situation or a Jax/Duran for upgrade situation. Lot's of complaints about the offense, but IMO that lies primarily on Correa, Lewis, and Wallner. Most of the guys are at or above expectations. The youth push is about here. The only real position places I can see the Twins looking to improve are Catcher #2, 1B, and possibly an OF, though they have 2 guys not too far away in the minors. Like it or not, they need to see health and progression from the prospects. Pitching is another story. Lots of questions after Lopez and Ryan. Bullpen churn is expected.

    The problem isn't the All-Star tie, the problem is putting stakes on an All-Star game to begin with. Just stupid.

    The ownership situation looms large over every discussion like this. Any decisions of magnitude need to be viewed through lens of good for sale/bad for sale vs win/lose. Outside of that, IMO if the Twins trade Ryan, arguably a top 3 SP in the AL right now with multiple years of relatively cheap control, they really need to look at the nuclear option and trade every veteran of value. The following waves from this move, both internal and external, would be massive. The message to the clubhouse is winning is not a priority. The message to the fans is get ready for a rebuild (not retool). Attendance and viewership will plummet. The team is walking an extremely fine line right now. The longer the sale drags out, the longer this team will tread water on salary and moves. It is a horrible position to be in.

    I realize we are in a slow news cycle right now, but take this move for what it is. He cost basically nothing, he blocks no one, he goes right to AAA. Don't act like these moves may not have value. Thielbar, Clemens, Castro were all basically written off. The TD peanut gallery loves riding the Brent Rooker train. They don't all work, but some do. The Twins see something they think they might be able to unlock. Take a swing and see what happens.

    Clemens is effectively trying out for next year, be it in MN or somewhere else. Would be nice to see Clemens as another reclamation project the Twins can turn into a viable player.

    Follow up question on this: How often do we see position players converted to catchers in the minors. I know we see catchers converted to position players regularly (Justin Morneau anyone?), does it often happen the other way around?

    I have been saying for years that Duran should be a trade candidate. He has been fantastic this year, but in previous years he was closer to Eddie Guardado than Joe Nathan. Sell high, especially for an overpay.

    Be ready to see Severino playing 1B for some MLB team 3 years from now hitting 25 HR. Then we get to see all of the TD comments blaming the Twins FO for failing on this guy. That is the life of a Twins fan...

    Going off the idea that the Twins will be sellers, I see the Twins keeping one of the Jax/Duran duo, and Varland. Everyone else in the bullpen can be had. The proposed trade feels a little light on the return (not a ton, just a little), but this an actual deal worth considering (unlike previous articles).

    By that logic, there would be no punters, kickers, or special teams guys recognized by the NFL. Relievers are a position that needs to be represented.

    In today's game, the record is not really relevant, it has to do with the WC standings. I agree with most in the belief that the Twins are out of the playoff race. The reality is they are still not truly out. If the Twins org. feels like they have a chance with the players coming back or (more realistically) ownership needs to make it look like they are trying to win for the sake of a sale, not much is going to happen. I would rather they don't tread water on the edges of the playoffs. Either win a ton of games and make a run, or lose a ton of games and make the trades look acceptable

    I agree with a large portion of what you are saying. IMO the worst thing that could happen in the next few weeks is the Twins stay exactly where they are in the standings. Win games, make a run, keep the players. Lose games, fall out of race, trade the tradeables. Do not tread water... Though not a clear path, I could see them re-signing Castro and Paddack. It would be more helpful if the ownership situation would get resolved to make the decisions cleaner and easier.

    I must be desperate for something to read... I keep clicking on these articles that have a headline that feels like clickbait. As long as the team is "trying" to win and not selling off, Jeffers is about as untouchable as the Twins have.
