    The TD staff should be bowing down at the feet of Pohlad. If the Twins had a competent owner, this site would lose about half of it's content.

    You could easily make an argument that Varland has been their 2nd best RP this season. Strong relievers are often failed starters. Varland belongs in the discussion.

    I think you need to read my entire post, instead of cherry-picking parts that fit your narrative. I said keeping those 6/7 players will give the Twins a chance to be competitive. I also inferred that (IMO) trading off all of your best pieces would not be in the best interest of a team sale. Unless ownership dictates it, don't expect any major decisions one way or the other. The guys I do advocate moving: Duran and Larnach, followed by Bader, Paddack and Castro (if they do not expect to retain him) would bring more back than A-ball lottery guys. I said that an argument could be made for keeping Wallner and Castro, not that they were untouchable. As much as In would like to see Castro extended, as a soon-to-be FA, the likelihood is small. It sounds like you believe the only option is a complete tear-down of the team, moving every player with value, and let the Twins languish at 70 wins for the next 3-5 years while they attempt to rebuild. I can respect that, I just don't agree with it. I doubt that a team buyer would be interested in that as well. The Twins are in the middle of a strong youth movement at the moment: Lee, Keaschall, Festa, Matthews, Varland, with another 4-6 guys that are 1-2 years away. I would rather the team be somewhat competitive while they roll these guys in than be terrible.

    Unless there is a directive from ownership to shed salary (not out of the question) or gut the team, the chances of trading Ryan are zero. Outside of the no-trade clauses, Ryan is the most valuable player on this team. Cost controlled, young, high-end SP are unbelievably rare in todays game. The only real thing I see happening while ownership is in flux is that Ryan gets a contract extension. I have continuously said the Twins will have a punchers chance with Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Correa, Buxton, and Lewis on the roster. Switch out Lewis for Jeffers, and this still holds true. Ownership needs the general perception to be that they care about the team. Destroying the quality components by trading or moving these guys will negatively affect the sale efforts. Duran should be moved now. Highest value for the most replaceable piece. There is an argument for keeping Wallner and Castro (if they believe they can extend/resign him), but pretty much everyone else can be had for the right price.

    There are a lot of things to complain about with the Twins. Boy, oh boy, are there a lot of of things... But... Getting run over by the best pitcher on the planet is not one of them. Skubal does this to every team, good or bad. Go find another hill to plant your flag on.

    Funny how no comments here are addressing the fact he had an unknown, hard to diagnose medical issue that severely curtailed his progression. Far easier to attack the FO as a bad draft decision. I too am not a big fan of these Monday morning QB articles. Woulda, shoulda, coulda...

    Barring pitching through injury, they are pot-committed to Ober, especially with no AAA depth at the moment. I agree with other posts here: IL stint seems logical right now. The Twins are about 2 weeks away from throwing in the towel on the season, looking towards the future seems the best choice here.

    Articles like this are written more to create views and discussions rather than speak truths. In every facet of sports, the coasts and larger cities get promoted first, followed by larger cities and "popular" players. As good as Joe Mauer was, he was underappreciated by the Minnesota media as much as the national media. First ballot HOFer, but seemingly generally behind Molina and Posey in discussions. Nathan might be the most underrated, underappreciated reliever in the last 40 years. If played for a coastal team, he would be in the HOF already. Santana? No discussion of Grienke, Pettitte, Wainright, Buerhle, and a handful of others that probably deserve consideration ahead of him. Santana had a great run, but it was unfortunately pretty short

    What a horrible position the Twins are in right now. Good enough to believe they have a chance at the playoffs, bad enough to know they won't go anywhere. That article talking about the Twins having a realistic chance at 90 wins a while back has not aged well. ANY bullpen guy could be had for the right price. IMO, Duran should seriously be considered trade material as they would be selling high on him right now. I still don't know why there is any discussion to trade Lopez, Ryan, or Ober, especially the last two. SP contracts are crazy high right now, Lopez contract is below market value, Ryan and Ober are still cost controlled and insanely cheap for what you are getting (albeit Ober is struggling right now). Anyone that thinks Buxton's contract is an albatross has not really looked at his contract and the value he brings. Paddack is a low-end extension candidate, considering the performance of SWR, Festa, and Ober. Castro is another extension candidate. Realistic sell options: Bader France Any BP guy (keeping 2 of Duran, Jax, Sands, Varland group) Paddack and Castro (if the Twins have no intention to re-sign them)

    100% this. The decision to extend Rocco was not made as an endorsement, it is just one box to check, one less thing to worry about for the time being. If there is an internal choice to let Rocco go, no quality manager would want to come in until the ownership situation is resolved. You better bet Correa is frustrated. He was promised efforts to build a winning team, not treading water while his career wastes away. I am not going to blame the FO (bring on the hate), especially for the last 2ish years. Their hands have been tied so tight by ownership, we will never really know about opportunities lost. As usual, the fans take the beating of the Pohlad's tone-deaf, approach.

    Professional sport's All-Star games are just another way to keep fans engaged in the sport. It is nothing more than a popularity issue. The fact that MLB felt they needed to put stakes on a fan oriented exhibition game (home field advantage in WS) is a joke. In 2023 the Rangers had 5 position players in the starting lineup. Tough to take any of that all-star starter stuff seriously.

    I don't think they need to go nuclear, but I do think they are circling the drain. 2.5 games out of the WC, with 5 teams ahead of them. Like it or not, the health problems have played a role in the Twins lack of success so far this year. It is not the only reason, but it is significant. In the past I have always said the Twins have a punchers chance as long as they do not trade any of the big 6: Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Buxton, Correa, and Lewis (though right now I am ready to switch Lewis for Jeffers). I still think that is the case. IMO, the big questions they should be asking internally: 1) Do we extend/re-sign Chris Paddack? 2) How important is Willi Castro to our lineup over the next 3 years? Do we re-sign/extend him? 3) Is this the real version of Harrison Bader? Do we re-sign/extend him? Outside of those questions and the big 6, everyone else should be considered immediately moveable by the deadline (though a Jax/Duran move could wait until the offseason).

    I can appreciate the view that it might raise Buxton's national visibility and it might be a "reward" for a strong first half, but... It feels like almost a yearly thing where a participant comes out of the derby in a dreadful slump, where they blame the derby for messing up their swing. The Twins margin for success is so tiny right now, having your best offensive player run that risk doesn't seem worth it. Add in the injury prone piece, and it looks even worse.

    Without seeing the overall board, the ranking list looks about right from a Twins POV. That 27th ranking for Paddack... where does he rank among SP? It feels like he may be higher. With Festa getting an extended audition and SWR looking shaky, it will be interesting to see if the Twins try to resign/extend him. I think Castro is more an extension candidate than a "dump" candidate. He is quietly having another borderline all-star season. The flexibility he brings is obviously coveted by the Twins and I do not believe the contract would be uber-expensive.

    The wonders of the internet... just because someone has an opinion doesn't make it an informed opinion. It takes two minutes to see how many medical staff the Twins directly employ, with an understanding that most players have their own PT, massage therapists, and nutrition support. As decade's-long athletic coach and trainer, I probably do have more information than most. 99+% of fans are ignorant of the majority of ongoings within a sports organization, a fact that is proven time and time again in the TD comment section. This is why the TD writers continually write articles explaining what is happening. A comment section for any internet site is basically the dictionary definition of "peanut gallery" Comments stating things that obviously insinuate Lewis and the Twins staff as being so stupid they don't know stretching is important are borderline troll comments. If me addressing those things insult you as a non-interested 3rd party, nothing else I say will matter.

    Does the peanut gallery here really believe that Lewis is lazy or unknowledgeable and that is what is causing his injuries? "less weight room more yoga type stretching/flexibility activity. Not saying he doesn't do stretching/flexibility just saying do more." "before you run, STRETCH! And to cool down after? Stretch some more." These comments speak more to the ignorance of the fan than anything. There are multiple doctors and trainers working with Lewis 6-8 hours a day. They have access to recouperation machines and efforts that the general public knows nothing about. You don't think he is trying everything possible to stay healthy? I GUARANTEE you nobody is more frustrated than Lewis. Some people are genetically predispositioned to injuries: loose joints, flat feet, tight or loose tendons are just a few that things you can't fix with any amount of work. To think that a change in his workout routine will magically fix everything is insanely ludicrous. There are athletes on the other side of the coin that seem to magically avoid injuries (Pete Rose, Cal Ripken, Craig Biggio, Derek Jeter... LeBron James is a genetic god). What makes it hard for Twins fans is the seemingly never-ending list of great players that have had career altering, relatively unavoidable injuries (Koskie, Mauer, Morneau, Liriano, Kubel, Buxton, Lewis to name a few)

    TBR has so many negatives, from stadium issues, to their division, to a questionable fanbase. If they get $1.7b, we Twins fans are hosed. Pohlads will never sell the team.

    The second-half run is theoretically possible, albeit without SP1 Lopez. The bigger problem is going to be the 8-10 games they drop in the standings until everyone comes back. With the shaky offense and the SP not looking great lately, treading water feels like a pipe dream.

    The Ramos-Capps trade was one of those trades that everyone knew was going to blow up before the ink was dry on the deal. Very sad from a Twins fan perspective. A mid-tier reliever for a starting caliber catcher... sheesh. Best wishes to Ramos.
