    I am not arguing with you. MLB is way more concerned about pace-of-play than the NFL is. Any tinkering will not extend game time. Right now, it is black and white. It either is or is not a strike. I can definitely see MLB get to a point where a call does not get overturned if it is in the "margin of error". But that type of tinkering takes time and will happen in the offseason. But like I said, there will always be disagreement on the edges. Another point not really talked about is how this changes the interactions between managers and umpires. I saw video clip of the umpire turn to the dugout and say "If you don't like the call, challenge it!". I would be willing to bet that the number of ejections over pitch call arguments drops dramatically from last year. It also helps to keep certain umpires egos in check when everyone sees the horribly bad calls (looking at you Buckner).

    I understand the point you are making, and you have a solid argument about overturning/confirming edge calls. However as every player and team is playing by the exact same strike zone rules (which was not the case before ABS), your issue doesn't bother me as much as it probably should. When you get to the ABS boundry, there is always going to be disagreement. At some point, you have to decide where you are going to draw the line (no pun intended) and how you are going to interpret the results. Keeping in mind this is the first year, I would not be surprised to see some tinkering with the edges over the coming years.

    Eduardo Tait? Who is this guy? Somebody new? He is definitely not a highly touted catching prospect ranked in the Twins MiLB system that everyone and their grandma has heard about ad nauseum over the last 8 months that requires yet another article to be written about how he could be the Twins catcher of the future...

    I saw the words "Twins" and "Spend Big" in an article title and just assumed it was an April Fools joke.

    Agree with this. I thought Larnach's usage was spot on this weekend. Having him hit and pulling him for a defensive replacement/PH scenario late in the game was (I thought) correct. Continuing to complain about his presence is not going to change the fact that he is currently on the roster and a better offensive choice than the alternatives. If he hits well enough, he will get the lion's share of time in LF.

    Actually, Opening Day is the perfect time to create optimism. Regardless of what we all think is going to happen, it has not happened yet. Positive things can quickly change a negative narrative.

    Biggest loser coming out of camp is the fans. No Lopez, no major acquisitions, no superstar prospects on the roster, continued empty Pohlad promises...

    Adam must have drawn the short straw, I didn't think optimism was allowed on this website... I am excited to watch and listen to the Twins this year (except for the middle innings). Everyone knows this is a transition year for the Twins with a looming strike next year. Nobody is being blocked. Until shown otherwise, I believe the "quality" prospects are being held back intentionally so service time isn't burned next year. Lewis, Lee, Martin, Outman, Larnach, Clemens, Arcia, most of the bullpen, are all effectively at career crossroads and need to prove a lot of things. Fans can argue about whether they belong, but they are all being given the chance to prove they belong. I am hoping that the leashes are short where needed and the Twins learn the meaning of "sunk cost", but time will tell.

    I would not be surprised to see a "closer by committee" situation. When there is no obvious option, you wait until someone grabs it.

    You want your best hitter batting leadoff. Each spot in the lineup gains 15-20 PA over the next over the course of the season. You want your best hitter getting the most PA. I can understand the argument for pitch count, or OBP possibly driving that, but "leadoff" only matters once per game. The way things look now: Buxton/Keaschall in slots 1&2, followed by Wallner/Bell in 3&4

    Here is the law: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/watertrails/lifejackets.html While I missed the quote that said his son was wearing the life jacket, I am very curious as to how Correa was without a life jacket or preserver, in the water, with his son, nowhere near a boat. That part of the story was conspicuously left out. That being said, without further information, it was still completely stupid to be in that situation.

    I get that it was scary for Correa, but no life jackets for him or his son? Seriously? Not only is it the law, it is common sense. To anyone giving the "thumbs down" to people admonishing him for that must not be from Minnesota or have been near a lake ever in their life.

    I am positive the $3-4M outlay here had these pitchers made the team had a huge impact on the decision to let them go.

    I am trying to understand... Everybody knows that Spring Training, especially for pitchers, is 100% about season prep with virtually every single number being meaningless, yet there always seems to be a high level of panic when someone does not perform to regular season expectations during this time. I know the word panic is used in the title for clickbait. I get it. If you want to be concerned about 3 starts and 8 IP during "practice", I get that too. Let's stop over-reacting (for the millionth time on this site) and see where he is after a few regular season starts...

    Competition is good. SP depth is good. Matthews or Abel should be chomping at the bit in AAA, waiting for their opportunity.

    I agree, but I don't see the Twins throwing his $1m+ guaranteed salary out the window for nothing. A trade makes more sense, even if it is for a partial-salary recoup.

    A lot of talk about the lefty/righty balance off the BP, but very little talk of pitching splits, which is really what it comes down to. If a LHP can get RHB out at a decent enough rate, it doesn't matter. The Twins acquired arms with possibilities, not slots. Altavilla may have been more of a lock then the fans believe, especially with Hawkins stumping for him. After last season, there were probably a few teams calling on him, he probably would not have signed in MN without some assurances. The Twins have historically not thrown money away. Expect Jackson and Outman to make the team (or be traded for something), guys that can be optioned will be optioned to create spots.
