    This falls in line with my thinking as well. There is a team out there that sees Wallner's success in AAA and thinks that he could help their big club. Any trade will see salary going out, with prospects, not salary, coming in. If any salary does come in, it will be very small.

    Contrary to what the article says, trading away two of your best hitters for prospects does constitute waving a white flag on the season. That being said, if the Twins believe there is a zero chance of a Jeffers re-sign/extension, and the Caratini/Jackson pairing looking solid, I can understand why they would trade him. The Larnach situation is a little different. With another year of arbitration control, and the Twins not willing to call up a high-end prospect with the strike looming, I don't know if the return would be so high that trading him right now makes sense. Yes, they would be selling high on him, but it sends a bad message to the clubhouse if they trade him for prospects while in the playoff hunt.

    Read the whole quote. I never said there wasn't room from improvement, I said the lineup was not the top priority. SP is up and down, the bullpen has been shambles all year. The focus should be there first.

    Please tell me how Zoll can make any moves of quality when the ownership refuses to invest in payroll? His comments are part of the problem. Saying that they need to invest in the team and not actually allowing any increased payroll to acquire good players pretty much says it all. We have no clue about the level of quality of Zoll as a GM, it will probably take a few years to get a better handle on him.

    As with Falvey before, Zoll is not truly driving the bus. Tom Pohlad has continued the Pohlad tradition of saying one thing and doing another. How many GM's do the Twins need to go through before the fans realize they are not the ultimate problem? When the Twins miss out on the postseason in a year where a few small moves could have realistically put them over the top, it is 100% on Tom.

    Let me get this straight... The Twins have scored the most runs in the AL this year and we are suggesting we trade away prospects for rental OF, a position at which the Twins have depth in the minors? This team has been lacking RP all season and the Pohlad's have done absolutely nothing to help it. Why would we-as-fans think they would do anything to strengthen a lineup that is nowhere near the top of the priority list? Ownership has zero interest in upgrading this team in any capacity. They are more likely to cut salary and trade the Ryan/Jeffers/Larnach/Bell group. Articles like this are great discussion, but complete fantasy.

    Agreed. The "change of scenery" argument holds as well. The Twins continue their trend of finding positive reclamation projects. Ideally you want this to be the 11th best thing about your club, not the 4th.

    I laughed when I read this title, it felt like click-bait. Of course the Twins don't WANT to trade Jeffers. A top-third catcher, still relatively young, serving a position of need. But the reality is that Jeffers is a Boras client. The chances of him signing an extension are basically nil. As a FA, he will be priced out of the Twins market. If he is healthy by the deadline, they will move him for the best package.

    This is the conundrum... Do the Twins call up guys now to see what they have? If they do, they risk further development of said player by eliminating them from MiLB play during the lockout. Is it worth that risk, especially understanding a large portion of the 2027 MLB season is expected to be lost.

    Upon further investigation, it looks like no service time is accrued during a lock out. However, as was mentioned elsewhere, MiLB players will continue to play during the lockout unless they have been called up. This will clog up calling up the prospects.

    I am having a hard time believing they will burn any of his service time this year. especially with the upcoming strike. I would imagine he would accrue service time if he is on the roster during the strike, which the Twins will not want.

    Wallner fits the mold of a change-of-scenery candidate. For whatever reason, he just can't seem to put it all together on a consistent basis in MN.

    While the trade seemed odd at the time, no one will really know why the trade was made. Were there behind-the-scenes issues? Did someone of importance want him gone? Did the Twins truly believe he was not going to help them long term? Did they believe they received better value in return? A half-season of a reliever is about the most unreliable thing you can base results on. While the trade looks bad now, it will take a few years to truly see the results.

    Truth #6: Despite everything and everyone, the Twins are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. If they decided to do ANYTHING to bolster the bullpen, they would be fighting for the division.

    I have been ok with most of the changes baseball has implemented over the years, but this decision is a train wreck. Taking a popularity contest and putting something so important as WS HFA as a result is truly sad.

    Considering he isn't on the 40-man, it is highly doubtful he will get an opportunity without a couple of injuries. Odds are more likely he will become a free agent after this year and go somewhere he will have a better opportunity

    And each team is going to use some combination of those numbers (and privately more) putting more weight on what they believe is more necessary or accurate. SDI is nice for the general fan to get an idea of how MLB players are viewed defensively. It would be nice if some ambitious programmer/web builder were to amalgamate the MiLB information into one spot to give the fans something to go off of. That person is not me... Thanks for the legwork!

    It would be interesting to know why there isn't a (public) SDI for MiLB. The metrics seem to be available. Even if it is a sample size issue, I would imagine there is enough interest in 2A and 3A to make it doable.

    The initial quote I was responding to insinuated they sit Larnach for Roden so they could trade Larnach. I could have read it wrong, but that is how I took it.

    Could be fun, especially with his proclivity for story telling... I just don't want to listen to his attempts at calling Twins games on the radio.

    So bench Larnach and his 122 OPS+? If they are going to trade Larnach, then trade him. You can't bench him. He has earned his playing time so far this year.
