    Lots of fan emotions running rampant right now. This is not on Falvey, but on ownership. None of the major moves were made without ownership pushing hard. I am not going jump the gun on what the Twins did or did not get. Hard to know if there were better deals to be had. All I know is that this is arguably the worst day as a Twins fan since Bud announced the Twins would be contracted. Hard to see an owner destroy a team and fanbase. The only possible positive from today is that it was driven by a potential buyer wanting a clean slate.

    Sorry Jamie, your positive take on Abel doesn't fit the narrative that the Twins got hosed in the Duran deal. Getting 2 guys that slot into the top 6 prospects won't work. Let the follow up bashing from the Miller trade commence.

    Regardless of what happens with Correa, a change in ownership will reset the expectations baseline. Until the team gets sold, every single decision made from trades and hires down to which type of soda is kept in the clubhouse will have a financial tinge to it. The ownership situation really needs to be resolved so a direction can be decided on.

    I agree with this, as Duran is going to become very expensive over the next few years. That doesn't mean the reasoning is bad. Personally, I am probably more down an Duran than most. It feels like before this year, he underperformed to his stuff. More Eddie Guardado saves than Joe Nathan saves. He has been great this year. With his velo trending downwards, sell high. Regarding the trade, I don't know. People are expecting the world for 40 IP annually. They got a possible rotation piece and a decent C prospect. Most prospect-for-player trades don't work out... so I expect to see an abundance of positive comments on the TD board.

    This is very true. People forget that deadline deals are as much about sending salary out the door as they are about getting prospects. If the Twins do not trade Castro or Bader, is anyone here going to comment on ownership willing to spend money on salary to keep the team watchable over the last two months?

    You didn't read my comment. I am not saying that money wasn't a factor in including Dobnak in the trade. I am saying that the money was not enough to substantially move the needle on the prospect return. All teams make cost saving moves, don't act like Twins ownership has a patent on this doing this.

    The Jim Bowden of TD strikes again... Sometimes you can accomplish both saving money and getting a quality prospect. Does anybody here think that Paddack would have gotten a top-ten prospect without the Dobnak inclusion? We complain about the Twins finances all the time, but all teams do this sort of move. Sometimes we need to look outside our little bubble of contempt at ownership and see what this truly looks like: a quality move for the Twins.

    Up until this year, it felt like Duran was underperforming his stuff. More Eddie Guardado than Joe Nathan. I have advocated trading Duran for a while now, that hasn't changed.

    ESPN trade rankings has both Duran and Jax listed at 30% chance they get traded. That feels about right. Between the pending sale and the Twins proximity to being competitive, I think they would need to be blown away by the package. If they are sitting in this same position at this time next year, I would put the odds of both of them being moved considerably higher.

    There should be a lot of opportunities for the young pitchers over the next few months. SWR, Festa, and Mathews, plus Adams, Ohl, and anyone else pending trades. I am just hoping to see progress giving the fans some hope for next year.

    I can understand the low grade for the Tigers, especially if this is the only pitching move they make. It does little to improve their SP, feels more like they are rolling the dice he can be effective out of the pen. Strong defensive catchers always have a place, even if it is only organizational depth. If he has any bat skills at all, he could be a backup for a long time. A high-floor catching prospect for what we gave in return? Yeah, I am not sure what ESPN is expecting from the Twins here.

    Really hard to complain here, especially since Paddack has gone downhill as the season progressed. Salary dump for a legitimate MLB prospect (the legitimate comes because he is a catcher) playing a position of need for the Twins. ESPN gave this trade a C for the Twins. Feels more like a B+ to me.

    Everybody of value not expected back next year should be on the block. I don't think Bader is under-the-radar, I think teams are a little nervous that his offensive production will regress to previous years. If the Twins think this is the real Bader, they should look to extend him. Bader in LF, Buxton in CF gives them some relief with defensive concerns in RF, and provides a viable injury backup for Buxton.

    Everybody in the bullpen should be fair game, keeping one of Duran/Jax and probably Varland. The Twins have had success over the years finding RP from the heap and getting quality out of them. Let that process continue, get teams in the mix that need RP help to overpay, especially now that Clase is out of the picture.

    Speculation here, but I am guessing the Twins had a dollar threshold they were willing to go to with Berrios. Berrios wanted more, the Twins knew they could not approach his ask, and the move was made. Same with Pressly. The point you make at the end is a HUGE point in these comments. We-as-fans criticize and attack for moves that are made, but we will NEVER know all of the factors that go into a move.

    I tried some cursory searches, but did not have any luck. Has there been any research done on deadline deals in MLB as a whole and how effective they have been, both short term and long term? Looking at this article, I see trade wins, trade losses, and a whole bunch of neutral transactions. Before the dumping on the FO begins, I am curious to know how they have performed in comparison to their peers or the league in general. The other comment I wanted to make was when looking at the moves in hindsight, most/all need to be taken in context. These players were moved because they were not going to paid in the future by MN. Pressly and Berrios are great examples here. The Twins were not going to pay them, so they moved them for something, as opposed to letting them walk and get nothing (not even a flier) in return.

    For me, the discussion needs to include drafts and acquired prospects, as both are important. My response really comes down to one question: What should the expectation be for the developmental program and do the Twins (or more appropriately Falvey) do worse, as well, or better than other organizations? There are a lot of moving pieces to this discussion as some teams place less priority on prospects and regularly trade them. Other teams rely solely on prospects, some draft heavy from college, some take more chances on HS pitchers. You really can't just put a number on it and blame or cheer the GM. In the Twins case, we-as-fans have no clue about decisions that were axed due to the ownership chaos over the last few years. When start factoring in the unknowable items (injuries) do we blame the GM for that as well?

    I understand the point you are trying to make, but I don't completely buy the argument. There are a handful of layers between the GM and the player. The GM isn't sitting in the cage at 10:00 pm working with the players. Also, a great coach can still fail in bringing a player along, players fail for multiple reasons that have nothing to do with coaching. Player development is so much a crap shoot. Joe Ryan was drafted in the 7th round. Should every team in MLB fire their GM for passing on him in the draft? I understand that your mind is set. Nothing I say will change your view of Falvey and the fact you think he needs to be fired. I just have them much lower on the "blame totem pole" than you do.
