  1. We go down this path, anybody here want to discuss Kirby Puckett?
  2. Full disclosure: I am a huge Pete Rose fan. The things that made Pete Rose great are the same things that people love about Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, et. al. - the supreme ultra-competitiveness. Unfortunately with that narrow thought process comes huge warts and problems. Gambling problems is a common theme these individuals. I am not here to make excuses. Pete bet on baseball. By all accounts he always bet on his team to win, never to lose. He never threw games to make money. You can make your own decision on how fair the penalty is. The baseball HOF has always been political and rarely about quality. No clear directions on what should be considered when voting on worthiness. Guys like Greg Maddux not getting 100% of the vote because a few knuckleheads and their moronic views. MLB deciding who gets into the HOF when they have no connection to the voting process... If MLB had similar directions to the NFL (only on-field actions should be considered), this discussion would be a lot easier. I think the HOF is just as much about history than celebration. I think Pete's on-field accomplishments make him a no-brainer for the HOF. I also think his plaque should say "Pete Rose, retired as all-time hit leader, was banned from baseball for gambling". Give the good and the bad.
  3. Among the names of the injured: Royce Lewis Byron Buxton Carlos Correa
  4. You forgot "opportunity" and "luck". Some players just need an extended opportunity without looking over their shoulder. I am not saying Gasper is one of those guys, but sometimes you don't really know until they get a solid run.
  5. MLB has gone away from "pitchers" and is choosing "hard throwers". People forget how effective pitchers can be throwing 88 mph if they have control, effectively mix up pitches, and can call good games.
  6. Winning cures all they say. I talk a lot about the big six staying healthy and performing will always give the Twins a punchers chance. Lopez, Bailey, Ober, and Buxton are all doing what is expected. Lewis is just coming back and Correa has been just short of terrible. It helps to have Paddack and a few of the relievers pitching well. The offense has shown a little life, but it needs to be sustained. The Indians are pretenders, it will be tough for them to maintain all season. The Royals and Twins are somewhat similar. The TIgers are real. The Twins still have their work cut out for them if they are going to make a serious playoff run.
  7. Stop. Just stop. There is no scenario where trading a young, cheap, all-star caliber SP for anything other than a haul makes sense. As long as the Twins have a healthy big six (Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Buxton, Lewis, Correa) they will always have a punchers chance of competing. Any move involving one of those players needs to be considered long and hard.
  8. Most of the time it is just blowhards throwing garbage out there for clicks and trolls (looking at you SAS). Bowden should know better as he was an actual FO and GM for multiple MLB teams. Then, of course, I see the trades mention the Orioles and the Mets, and remember that pandering to the coasts is status quo for national media. At this point, a serious discussion about moving Miranda / Julien would either be straight up for a Class A lottery ticket, or a small part of a much bigger move.
  9. There is a reason why Jim Bowden is working for the media and not an MLB team.
  10. Never say never, but the deck is stacked against both of them right now. Both have been surpassed by other prospects in the depth chart. They are in the "might be time for a fresh start in a different organization" discussion.
  11. I don't mind the cherry-picking of certain numbers, but sometimes they need to be taken with a grain of salt. IMO opinion, these numbers need to be taken in context with other numbers and information to get a more accurate picture of what is going on, Injuries (Castro) and sample size (all pitchers) can play a role here. Has Bader made adjustments to his swing or approach that allow him to be more successful with less power? Was Castro playing hurt before his IL stretch? What adjustments is SWR trying to make now that everyone has seen him?
  12. We talk a lot about the reasons Twins fans don't follow the team? How about 3 innings of unlistenable radio? I can't imagine there is anybody else in all of baseball then Gladden on the radio.
  13. I would expect you feel it is unwarranted, otherwise you would not have written the article. College numbers really do not mean anything at this point. Yes, he has shown some positive traits offensively in A-ball, however it is a very small sample size. I don't think anyone here would argue that he would be a potential candidate to move to first base at some point, but to suggest he is anything close to MLB ready both offensively and defensively, is absurd to say the least. When you factor in how traditionally slow the Twins are when moving along position players (a fact that you should know) and that you are discussing (by all accounts) a defensive-liability for a team that currently promotes defensive flexibility, it does not show well. I like the article, I like the discussion. But when you, as a contributing writer to a Twins website, start pushing unreasonable ideas as reasonable, you have to expect backlash.
  14. Actually, I clicked on this article because it was different than most of the other stuff and I had heard very little of Amick. It was interesting to read about a decent offensive start by a low-level player. The train ran off the rails when the author suggested that a defensively challenged 3B with 71 innings at 1B in A-Ball is even on the radar as a potential long term defensive 1B, then he doubled-down by saying he could reasonably be in the majors next year. Yes, I have issues with the repetitive articles. Yes, I have issues with troll commentors that attempt to hijack articles. There are times when articles need to be defended and ultra-negative comments need to be addressed. This is not one of those times.
  15. Reasonably? Is that because he has shown to be MLB ready with a whole 71 innings played a 1B and 180 MiLB at bats? Is it his superior reputation as a fielder? Is that because the Twins have shown a propensity to rush position players through the minors? Please... explain the reasonableness of a guy in the low-minors with sketchy defense having any chance of being a Twins 1B next year.
  16. Thank you Fred. I remember a post (not you) that said the only thing keeping Kiersey from being a 4 WAR player was Rocco not playing him. It seems to be pretty obvious why he was constantly getting passed over. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible that management and the FO know more about these players than we-as-fans do. There may be real reasons why McCusker is where he is.
  17. Sure. Let's continue the discussion of possible roster spots in 2029.
  18. I remember going through this discussion here a while back when it came to certain positions being more prone to injury and moving players to different position players to keep them healthy (Buxton out of CF was a big one). I do not believe there was any public empirical proof one way or another (other than catcher). Lewis' bat is not good enough to warrant a full-time DH slot. They need to find the best position for him (3B, 1B, 2B, whatever) that the Twins feel will keep him in the lineup and make it work.
  19. This is not a "Rocco" approach, this is an MLB approach. Most every team cycles players through the DH to give them a rest. Blame Rocco for other things, but not this.
