  1. I was thinking the invisible fence and collar might work.
  2. LOL. Seriously. LOL.
  3. wow... Po-Po-Polancoooooooooooo !! Cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuzzz !! What's that funny dance that Cruz and Sano do? I think I seen Eddie do it too. lol
  4. For this last 3rd of this season, I like the idea of Smelzer or Thorpe as a starter and put Perez in the BP, someone to come in when the starter flops or can't go 5. Maybe move Pineda to #4 or not and just keep him at the 5 spot. The other guys will fill innings 6-7 and then we go with a combo platter of Dyson and Rogers to close it out at the end, maybe one for the 8th the other for 9th. Also, I would like to see Rocco push the starters to one more inning per game. Sans Berrios, how can he expect them to pitch into the 7th inning if they never pitch into the 7th? The mind set is: starters need to be counted on to lead the team down the home stretch and get to the playoffs and hopefully beyond. Now is the time to take the reigns. Man up. No more pampering. Do what your paid to do. If the process fails, well that's how it goes but at least you tried to get to where you want to be.
  5. Team could have come back from the 9th inning misfire and taken the win, but the bats went eerily silent. I didn't see the game but I guess Polanco could have gotten to a ball that could have saved a run?? Sometimes other things go unnoticed that could still take the game but yeah, true to his name, Dyson sucked in this one... lol. On another note, what's up with Po? His BA has taken a noticeable dive since early June, his fielding at times is questionable (lackadaisical?) and I cannot stand those dam throws of his....learn how to throw the ball overhand! Also his plate approach lately, he really messed up the other day with runners at 1st ann 2nd, no outs, and he pushes a lazy fly ball to right? I know Rocco's MO so far is to be all calm and collected but man sometimes you need to get in the face of these guys. Maybe he did, I don't know. But that recent series in Chi-Town, you see what Renteria did it to Moncado after he missed that pop-up...after that toungue lashing Moncado went on a terror at the plate. Sometimes it does the job.
  6. Disturbing trend: too many games like this in the past 6-7 weeks. The team has pulled itself out a few jams to win ... but these losses gotta sting. I think about the effect these games have on team psyche, more-so than bullpen usage, offensive lapses, defensive miscues and misfit management. So not a great way to start August but there is still a third of a season yet to play. Game on!
  7. Am I the only one that notices how often this Twins team loses the last game of a series? I checked: its been 18 times this season. That just somehow has to leave a bad taste in your mouth.
  8. That was a lot of ranting but I found a nugget in there. I believe your statement that "it's all between the ears" is true. That game last night, 10-7 Yankees, looked so much like a team trying but also knowing they have little chance. Yes, it is the Yankees and the Twins are their b**ch -- we have seen this scenario before so no real surprise. As the season heads into the final third and then the home-stretch, strong leadership will prevail. Teams with good leaders will rise and overcome adversity, bad breaks, unlucky bounces, bad ump calls, etc. while those without that will fall. We do not know yet what we will see with the Twins. The leader needs to be the manager, that's what he is paid to do. Rocco is a nice guy and seems to say the right things...but he has yet to face some real difficult times and pressure of winning and staying on top. To date he hasn't fared that well...can't say it is all on him these past two months but eventually it lands on him. We shall see how he handles the remainder of this season and if he can be the leader the team needs to push forward and get a playoff spot.
  9. Yep. We don't need them with walk-off wins.
  10. Reminds me of a good movie that has a real bad ending. It's about this ship...
  11. There once was a time we thought, yep, they got this. Then it was, I think they got this. Now, it is real simple: they ain't got this.
  12. The fact the team is not playing well overall is not good and then the Yanks come to town. Yikes, they always seem to find a way to beat the Twins; sometimes it is ugly. Looking back, the Twins were at a season high record of +25 at 47-22 on Father's Day. KC won that day, 8-6. A telling sign from that game: "the Twins left the bases loaded three times and were 4 of 18 with runners in scoring position." (quoted from the AP). The Twins are 12-16 since that game. I know talk is mostly about the pitching and that is a sore spot, but I believe the lack of clutch hitting is what has hurt this team most during this tailspin. How do they fix that??
  13. I agree with you that they do. But that's right now. Back in early June. we all pretty much felt like the Twins were a real contender. The players thought that too. The team needs a mind-shift. So much about competitive sports like baseball is attitude and confidence. The A's have it right now; the Twins don't. So when talking about shifts, that is one I would like to see.
  14. Eh, my newbieness showed on this one. These are from HawksNests post and I totally mucked that up. My badliness. So ... let's see if Hawk sees this and can elaborate.
  15. Twins' OPS with runners in scoring position: April/May — .888 (#2 in MLB) June/July — .733 (#24 in MLB) Twins' OPS in high-leverage spots: April/May — .897 (#3 in MLB) June/July — .620 (#28 in MLB) Those two are very telling about what has been going on. Pitching isn't the team's greatest strength. Those offensive numbers must get better to win the division.
  16. bullet points * If the games were 5 innings long this team would have a better chance of winning. * If Cleveland would just lose some games to those other teams, that would really help. * If the catchers would catch all the catchable balls, that would really help too. * Liam Hendriks looks like a Norse God.
  17. I'll use the popular phrase "me too" about watching Sano, and I agree on him being more selective, which should hopefully lead to more pitches over the plate and a big kaboom.
  18. Which team will we see in August and September? Just as an observation while watching many of the games, it is clear the team has lost some of their early season mojo. Without looking at stats, many players appear to be less productive, especially situational hitting. The starting pitching has been pretty good (wish Rocco would leave them in a tad longer) and our bullpen has done well for the most part. But the magic isn't there we saw and felt earlier. Since the 3-game series that started on June 4th in Cleveland, the Twins are playing .500 ball with an 18-18 record in 36 games; the Indians are playing .720 ball with a 26-10 record. As a fan that is not a scenario we wanted to see. However, the Twins are still in first place and this team, although not great, is good enough to win a division championship. Cleveland comes to town Aug 8 for four games and the heat will be on, that's for sure. Before they arrive, I think we will see the Twins get some of that early season mojo back.
