  1. Escobar - nice at bat and now a passed ball. Keep it rolling
  2. Will we get a run tonight? What are the odds on it?
  3. Good eye Mauer - way to battle for the walk
  4. Maybe more batting practice would have been better than a team meeting.
  5. Glad Rosario is playing in LF
  6. Sweet! A much needed double play!
  7. Get to watch a rare Twins game down here in Texas. Hopefully won't be over after the 1st inning.
  8. Can't get much better than a 13-0 win tonight! I have seen the topic of pitch-framing discussed on the forum from time to time so I thought this article would be of interest on Yadier Molina: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/yadier-molina-forgot-how-to-frame-a-pitch/ Yadier has dropped from near the top of pitch framing in 2013 to near the bottom so far this year - updated 2015 ranking below http://www.baseballprospectus.com/sortable/index.php?cid=1819124 I was pleasantly surprised to see Suzuki at 18th currently whereas he ranked next to last in 2014. Obviously we are only early in the year so this big swing from Molina and Suzuki may likely be due to a small sample size but this bears watching throughout the year to see if ytd results stay the same or if they move back to their historic norms. I think we have seen catchers stay fairly consistent in the rankings - Molina was always in the top 10 and Suzuki has been near the bottom of the rankings when I looked back to 2010.
  9. Disappointing loss after taking a 7-3 lead. Detroit won the battle of the bullpens today which is further depressing. Hopefully the injuries to Hughes and Fien are minor.
  10. I have not watched any of the games this year but my issue was the lack of good fundamental technique on his part - slow to get in there and not in proper fielding position. If this is the first incidence of this for him this year I would not bench him but discuss that he needs to do that in the future. If this has been brought up several times and the same thing is occurring then a benching can be used to try to get the message sent. Mental errors are less forgivable than physical ones. As a fan, I would prefer to see a player that may be lacking in defensive talent - trying his best to overcome that talent shortfall with hustle and proper technique - that would be the part that concerns me in this situation.
  11. I agree as well that the defense is the most alarming/depressing. I would hope that they are working extra hard on fielding in the next couple of weeks in addition to be open to changes in personnel. If there is not skill maybe a little will can help.
  12. I apologize in advance but couldn't resist. So informal poll results - Best seats for a baby #5: The Baby Jogger - baby and you can get some fresh air while you get exercise #4: The Car Seat - can't drive anywhere without them #3: The High Chair - great way to keep them contained so they can focus on eating #2: The Stroller - good ride, can carry stuff and you don't have to carry them and #1: Last row, 1B side upper deck at Target Field!
  13. Yep, we would all relish that.
  14. I don't know if we need to speed up play as much as eliminate useless dead time. My 2 biggest annoyances: 1) Batters should not get to step out of the box and re-adjust after every pitch. 2) pitching changes - why should relievers get 8-10 warm up pitches? Maximum of 2 or none would be fine with me. Does a pinch-hitter get some warm-up batting practice? I don't think we should ever have a clock in baseball although I can see it as a trial in minors for a year to get a behavior change.
  15. Seth, thanks for this post and supplying the backup information. I have written in my letter. Tony was my first favorite Twin player growing up and he remains my all-time favorite Twin. Since I was left-handed I copied his batting stance - unfortunately I did not have the same success he did - ha! I can acknowledge he is borderline at best Baseball Hall of Fame but I am hoping his lifetime contributions to baseball and his character and integrity push him over the line.
  16. Regarding one way we could possbily emulate the Cardinals that was touched on was how they handle prospects - hard to quantify but maybe they have better teaching and coaching in their farm system and at the big league level? That would not be the sole reason - they have drafted and developed more power arms than the Twins who only recently have embraced that philospohy. One would have to look at the talent on the two teams and determine if the Cardinals talent is really that much better than the Twins or is it the fact they are making the most of the talent. Possibly evidenced by players playing better when with the team than when going to other teams.
  17. Great site with a lot of knowledgable insight to the team. Being from Texas this is a great way for me to keep up with the team and the minors. One of my favorite reads is when Parker breaks down the difference in mechanics for a player with the videos - subtle things that I would never catch because I don't get to watch them play much. The other item I enjoy is the minor league daily updates. What i really like is when we have a writer from each minor league town that writes a more qualitative view of what they see in the club. This may very well exist already on the site and I haven't looked closely enough or they are not grouped together but if we had a writer from each minor league town that watches their team play provide a weekly update - I would find that a must read.
  18. Suzuki and Baltimore are a fit so I think he will be traded this week. Especially with extension discussions being pressed. I would bring Pinto back up to catch under Steinbach's instruction. Don't think Willingham or Correia will be traded - maybe in August if they show some improvement. I can't see any of our secondary relievers being in demand but maybe Burton would be shipped out in August to a contender for a couple of bucks.
  19. Ok offense, time to get something going!
  20. Sure has been tough to watch them play lately. Pitching to Beltre and a botched run-down. Combined with little offense against a Ranger team that had lost 8 games in a row coming into the series.
  21. Ugh - what a pitiful offensive showing.
  22. Tony Oliva Sausage, Mushroom and Bacon
  23. Passing along this sad news. Scott, a former Twins minor league pitcher in the mid-90's and currently a firefighter, was killed when trying to help out a stranded motorist in icy conditions. A car slid into him and knocked him off the overpass. Leaves behind a wife and 3 kids. He went to same college as myself. 24. I watched him a good bit with the Rangers this past year and while his hitting slipped a bit I was most impressed with his handling of the pitchers and pitch framing. I would like to see him here to help our pitchers and bring a little attitude and leadership to the clubhouse.
  25. What;s the old saying...Stick and Stones can break bones but words can never hurt me but apparently words carried more weight in this fight. Everything pretty well covered here and while I can see how annoying Gomez can be and his jawing started the mess but I think the umps blew this big time. I don't see how you can allow McCann to block a runner from the basepath, instigate the brawl and not suffer any discipline. (Maybe the Twins can adopt this is a new defensive strategy - just block the runner from the basepath.) Normally you let the runner touch the plate and then you get into it. So the runner never touched home plate but the run counted but no one was disciplined for not allowing the runner to score but the runner himself was thrown out of the game? Doesn't make sense to me. Reed Johnson coming out of nowhere to throw a sucker punch at Gomez - he should be suspended for more than 1 game - maybe 5-10 games. Why was Freeman ejected? Why really was Gomez ejected? So now admiring a home run is an ejectionable offense or was it for mouthing off from the beginning of his plate appearance to his trot around the basepaths or because the umps don't really like him?
