  1. 100% agree with this. I live down here in Arlington and have seen Maddux make a huge impact with the Rangers pitching staff since he became pitching coach. Especially given the fact that it looks like we have a good stable of hitters coming up but pitching is where we will need the most impact.
  2. I think we are just matching the apathy factor of the team.
  3. As I looked at the lineup my first thought was when was the last time the 7-9 hitters in a line-up were your outfielders.
  4. I was at the game as well - and had the same thought on the middle infield.
  5. Enjoyed the write-up! I am in town visiting my dad and we went to see the first game today. Unfortunately, the Twins didn't make it much of a game - Zimmerman pitched well. Glad you got to share time with your brother and see a Twins win!
  6. I think the thread starter is just pointing out the irony that there were many posts that kicked Ryan in the nuts for signing Correia and he is starting out very well. What are we all if not armchair experts though? Obviously it is early, small sample size, etc..etc.. and it does not change the fact that we overpaid for Correia based on his history not only for one year but adding a 2nd year on top of that. We also overpaid for what the market was on other similar pitchers. I am hoping our dumb luck continues and he somehow keeps this pitching up a bit longer - flip him while he's hot!
  7. This. (not sure what This. means but I have seen it in several posts, and it looks fun to type). Borbon looks appealing now just because of the way Hicks is currently batting. I have seen him play down here in Texas and he is a slightly lesser version of Ben Revere - same weak arm, little worse defense, hits about the same although he has some maddening AB's. He usually batted #9 in the order for Texas I beleive. In other words not a long term solution so I am indifferent if we pick him up or not. If we just need a MLB-ready body that can play CF for a couple of weeks - he fills the bill.
  8. Great article - good insight and an enjoyable read!! although I live down in Texas, it sure makes me want to come up to join the Territory Train on the visit to Cedar Rapids. Got a really good team and would be good to see Buxton before he moves on.
  9. Are you sure it wasn't Nishioka that put the hit on you? Oh that's right - he couldn't hit anything over here in the US.
  10. I would consider moving him to the lower part of the batting order out of the leadoff position if they feel he is putting too much pressure on himself before a demotion to AAA.
  11. Wow, 7 games and his career is over. It will take some patience. If by the end of the month he is still not batting over .100 they may need to send him to Triple A so it doesn't beat him down to bad but otherwise let him battle through it.
  12. Same as everyone else - I have them winning 80 games this year but I would not put any of my money on that happening. If everything clicks for them they could contend but since when has anything clicked for KC.
  13. Nice post - I too will hope to catch a Twins game in Wash DC this June with my dad. Well, the expectations for this season can't be much lower so the only way to go is up! Life is too short to waste a season so I will have to take joy in the small wins, the development of the young guys and maybe the last season to enjoy watching Morneau and maybe Willingham playing for us. Hopefully a player or two will come out of nowhere like Diamond last year to have an impressive season.
  14. I hate the Sox as well so I will pick the under. I'll go with 75 wins and 4th place in the division.
  15. Enjoying the post - my baseball career topped out at Little League - we won our league and made it through a couple of rounds of the regional playoffs in Maryland. I decided to go out on top. I contributed nothing to the team's success - I was the Nicky Punto of the team (without the headfirst slides) - walked a bit and was fastest player on the team but couldn't hit a lick. I am left-handed so they had me play 1B and some outfield whenever I made too many errors at first. There was never any demand to see me play again. I enjoy baseball and the Twins and don't take it too seriously. I will continue to root for them even if they win 40 games this year. Do I understand what the players are going through? - heck no and I wouldn't pretend to - but I do understand what it is like to be a fan. We need something positive to have hope for.
  16. Always a possibility. I live down here in Arlington so I hear all the Ranger news. Latest discussions are of bringing Profar up to play 2B and moving Kinsler to 1B so that may pre-empt that trade from occuring. But they have also talked of moving Kinsler to the OF depending on if they don't sign Hamilton which could re-open the Morneau possibility. Given our current state, I would prefer us to keep Morneau until mid-season and then evaluate trade possibilities.
  17. Unless overwhelmed by a trade request, I would keep Morneau at least until the trade deadline. Shows a sign of stability and is someone the fans like to come out and see.
  18. I like the trades but before talk of contention in 2013 - we certainly have questions at 2B, SS, 3B and CF. Far from strong up the middle and along with questionable starting pitching doesn't sound like a mix to be a serious contender. We will see who else we add in the next couple of weeks.
  19. The way the roster is currently set up with outfielders defense is more important than offense. We have to have someone that can cover some ground. I would rank it Mastro, Hicks then Benson. I could see Mastro starting the year with Benson as backup and Hicks in AAA but I have no problem putting HIcks in from the start.
  20. Boston has 3 catchers on their roster already - Salty, Ross and Napoli - not sure they would need another even platooning those at other positions, but if we did deal (which won;t happen and I am not advocating) I am sure we would get one of those back.
  21. We were in the right place at the rigth time for this trade. Phillies needed a CF and did not have the budget $ for Bourn (or Hamilton). Ryan probably wasn't looking to trade Revere but this deal was too good to pass up. Interesting if we bring Hicks up next year or make a trade for a stop-gap CF. We need someone who can cover some ground if Willingham and Parmelee are at the corner spots.
  22. I am keeping my expectations low...can't imagine this front office making a big splash. I am hoping we can mine some good bargains.
  23. Ha! Put Peterson at quarterback at least that would give us another blocker - could he throw any worse than Ponder?
  24. This game was an indictment on the entire organization: Speilman - how can we not have some adequate receivers. Coaching - we can't run some pass plays with the entire Packer defense playing the run? Ponder - bad enough that you can't throw completions - but you cannot throw interceptions when you are in scoring position - throw the ball away. Haven't you learned anything in 2 years? Defense - no pass rush against a beat-up offensive line - and can't make the plays on 3rd down. Wasted a great effort by Adrian Peterson. Such a frustrating game to watch.
  25. The trade is certainly understandable and inevitable but still sad to see Span leave the Twins. You can tell he has a lot of respect from his teammates - good to read that and thanks for posting this. Nationals are my second favorite team so I am glad he is going there. Hope they make it to the World Series next year.
