  1. I'm honestly OK when a team cashes in on a player like they did with Pressley. But bringing us to the present, that's why we should have been players in the huge RP FA market that this off season saw. The players were very much available to replace Pressley, but they didn't. That is a shame.
  2. It will be fun to see where both end up after a year in our system. I am as hard as anyone on Falvine but I'm stoked about this trade. You have to give up quality to get quality.
  3. I too am very positive on Alcala. Just out of curiosity, why do you consider him "high risk"?
  4. From a 2018 standpoint Perez was one of the absolute worst pitchers available. The same can be said from a career perspective. It hampers our team when with a bit more cash, or in some cases less even, we could have gotten someone better. As for our pitching prospects, we might as well cut them loose since they don't seem to warrant a chance that they are better than one of the very worst in baseball.
  5. Yes to offering Gibson that, I'd even up it a couple of mil and have a 4th year option of some sort. Either a buyout or one that vests with starts or IP's.
  6. and I was criticized in another thread for suggesting that those guys actually compete for the 5th spot this year. But now its OK for them to be our 3-5 next season and still no experience?
  7. If this were part of the plan then 2020 and beyond would have no hope of us getting better either. Now if Kyle were replaced by a Gerrit Cole or a Zack Wheeler then we are making progress.
  8. I've read many state that we could QO Gibson after this season if we can't sign him to an extension. This year the QO was 17.9mil. I would guess it will be even more next season. Why would we pay Kyle 18mil or more if we are hardly even willing to pay him fair market value?
  9. And if the performance isn't there does that mean a 50 mil payroll in 2020?
  10. I don't think Buxton extends coming off of a bad season and some ill will with the FO at this point. I believe Sano will walk and test the waters regardless. Rosario I'd like to see a 4 year deal. That would fix our costs and buy out his year 30 season, I wouldn't go further with him. Gibson, Yes, a 3 year with an option. W/o him we have a very thin rotation looking at next year. Berrios would be hard to guess. I'd guess he won't sign cheap. It would need to be an overpay of sorts.
  11. Actually 3/39 compared to 2/32 is a huge gap. 18mil guaranteed. I've read and heard that the Twins offer was 2/26 though and no way was that competitive. If we really wanted Grandal, which I would have greatly supported, then we would have needed to do more than Milwaukee on the AAV or added a year. Your aren't going to get the kind of quality that Grandal is by lowballing however. tbh 13mil AAV was lowballing. I can imagine Falvine received a very quick click when they made that offer.
  12. In the 2000's we were told "don't add better pieces because we are already good and winning divisions". 2011-2018 comes along and we are told that"since we are not good at this time and not in a position to compete don't add good pieces". Now 2019 comes along and we are told"that we need to see what our core has before we can add good pieces". There will forever be an excuse for this team not to add good to great pieces to our mix. The reason behind that excuse has been and remains that we are cheap.
  13. But in hindsite I'm with a few others. Simple answer, should have upped the offer to Grandal rather than give up Kiriloff.
  14. A deal headlined by Kiriloff? Nope, not this year. Not with only 2 seasons of control left. I've long wanted Realmuto, but not for Kiriloff. I'd deal Trevor Larnach as a headliner. Jorge Alcala as a 2nd piece and another low minors player. I hang onto Graterol also, or if he was included no Larnach and the 2nd piece would be less than Alcala. Marlins are overpricing realmuto imo. Similar to what Falvine did on Dozier a couple years back.
  15. The Cubs just sign Brad Brach for 3mil. I guess we don't have that kind of payroll flexibility.
  16. With the LAD signing AJ Pollock today that would likely take them out of the Harper Stakes I would think. One less competitor for somebody.
  17. What about Keuchel? I actually liked him more than Corbin coming into the off season myself. I agree with extending Gibson. Perhaps they have had talks, I'd assume they have since they did avoid arb with him. So they can't agree on dollars and length likely. If I were Kyle I'd likely be rolling the dice on a bigger FA deal myself. But yeah, with one SP signed up for 2020 that is a huge issue in my books. That does not bode well with 2020 being competitive. Frankly I'd do everything to extend Gibson and sign Keuchel. With Berrios that would at least make the front of our rotation a strong point heading into next season. I'd also trash the budget and woo Kimbrel here. Forget about Machado, not that they already haven't.
  18. It would certainly be nice to find out if we have any organizational depth.... Which we don't find out unless these guys see more use.
  19. I could see Perez being here for awhile, even if he is his career abysmal self.
  20. Drew Pomeranz signs with the Giants for 1.5mil guaranteed, that is the kind of deal and player I would support.
  21. Comparing Buxton to both Harper and Machado puts it into perspective just how disappointing Buxton has been. Obviously he is not being written off anytime soon but his career compared to both of their's is pathetic to say the least.
  22. Bonds will never get in the HOF, though he was the greatest player of his era. What he did on the field speaks for itself. Martinez is now a member of the HallofGood and that's OK. Since Mussina is in Schilling should soon follow.
