  1. Very complicated. Diamond (Bally) has missed payments to the DBacks, and it has until midnight (Wed, Mar 29) to make payments to the Padres. If missed, MLB will appeal to the bankruptcy courts to take over some franchise broadcasts. Be prepared for rocky camera work if that occurs. https://tvanswerman.com/2023/03/27/the-regional-sports-network-crisis-time-for-bally-sports-to-put-up-or-shut-up/
  2. Those fans weren't in the clubhouse nor was I. From the moment I saw his first interview, I said, "OMG, what a clown. Why him for $+20MM?"
  3. Miranda at 3B still scares me (.950 career wise if memory serves me).. My guess is that he moves to DH when Buxton is ready to go in CF. Farmer moves to 3B. Lots of flexibility with this roster.
  4. It is well written, with excellent application. Teams are teams whether they are playing ball, delivering healthcare, or brainstorming business plans. Well done. In part III, I would like to see some discussion of formal leaders (Joe Maddon, Tito Francona, Craig Counsell and the like) and their gifts which make them unique.
  5. Trevor Hildenberger. Now 32, he was on last roster cut from Giants. Active in unionizing MiLB (owners accepted union without a necessary vote!), now on the Sacramento River Cats roster. https://www.thenation.com/article/society/minor-league-baseball-union-bill-fletcher/ Plouffie is a co-host on podcasts Talkin' Live and Baseball Today. Randy Rosario went to Cubs/Iowa/KC/Japan and now plays for the Saraperos de Saltillo in the Mexican League.
  6. Am in Arizona for opener. Have one for me. d.b.
  7. Seth, superb summary for those of us who haven't dialed in this Spring. Been busy with WBC in Phoenix and college ball/high school ball in Tucson. Thanks much. db
  8. Last Spring, 2022. The D'Backs are arm-wrestling with the Maricopa County Stadium District, owner of the stadium over improving the stadium. Lease runs thru 2027. Rumblings of "move to Vegas." https://arizonasports.com/story/3504499/diamondbacks-leaders-weighing-options-for-future-home-ballpark/
  9. A footnote to the topic. Chase Field did not open the dome. Not once. Safety issue. Cables in bad shape. Field must have no occupants while opening or closing. 4 miles of cables and they can't ensure their integrity. https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/mlb/diamondbacks/2022/04/01/cable-problem-prevent-chase-field-roof-motion-arizona-diamondbacks-fans-present/7251859001/
  10. Just recv'd a ridiculously long survey from the WBC on my experience. I dumped it after 7 minutes when they had 12 questions on one page asking me how much I spent by category. (hotel, food, transportation, etc) and no end in sight to the survey. Give me a break. I understand the intent of the question/data for promotion purposes to cities for future games. But once again, a survey designed by a consultant who thinks I have an hour for them.
  11. Big Ol' will say just about anything to score ratings.
  12. I had the good fortune to attend 6 games in Phoenix. I have never seen such electric crowds at a baseball game. Was I at a European soccer/football game or was this the Olympics? Mercy. The COL-MEX and the US-MEX games were outstanding in their own rights from a baseball perspective. But from a crowd sense, the excitement and enthusiasm of the crowd were just as thrilling. Great stuff. We are now up to 35-40% foreign born athletes (stats vary) on the diamond. Talent of the future needs to come from somewhere as our home-grown kids don't play baseball or don't have access to a field like I did as a kid. Want those rosters filled? Promote the WBC.
  13. CNATHOL: Ah, the unreported injuries the players aren't yet sharing w/the FO. Hold your socks, kiddies. We have just begun. https://www.menshealth.com/trending-news/g19521233/dumbest-baseball-injuries-ever/?slide=1
  14. Guardians, 88W Twins, 82W WSox, 80W Royals, 78W Tigers, 66W
  15. When I sprint in my dreams, I wake up breathless.
  16. In Arizona and have Gladden/Provus on radio. Didn't realize Elvis Martinez - translator was doubling at 3rd for the Jays. (Winks).
  17. Spot on on both. It would take some interest on Gladden's part, but one hour with Elvis Martinez and he would have name pronunciation down pat. Come on, Danny, 30% of MLB players are Hispanic. Now, what will Gladden do with two Lopezes on the roster...
  18. The invisible correct-algorithm got me. Thanks for the catch.
  19. List any 3 former or current ballplayers, front office staff, mgrs, field personnel whom you would like to meet and spend an evening. Discuss why those 3. Mine? Retired after 30 years in management, I am interested in staff development and back stories. Here are some who might tell theirs: Ed Sprague, Dir of Player Development, Oakland A's. 8 years at the helm. The draft is one thing; development is totally another. What is their philosophy and how do they put legs under it? Will Collins, VP, Player Dev, Tampa Bay. Reason? See above. Love to throw about 3 questions at them and let them roll. Joe Madden Maddon, former mgr at Angels and Tampa Bay. Just finished his book and loved his integration of "gut/instinct" with data/information. Madden has experienced about every leadership position in MiLB and MLB that you could imagine. Oh, the yarns he can spin. Jump into the discussion, Joe, db
  20. Likewise. I particularly like to listen to West Coast ball -- Ken Korach with the A's (boy that man has the pipes for it), Charley Steiner/Rick Monday with the Dodgers, Tom Hamilton w/Guardians (shades of Mel Alenn), and Darrin Jackson w/WSox (Kasper is good but I still lament Farmer's passing).
  21. Thx Seth. I posted network dates to my calendar. As a cord cutter, I listen to about 100 games w/Provus/Gladden. I tune into the opponent's flagship via MLB audio when Gladden is scouting/vacating and Atterberry takes the mike. I think he is superb with game updates but over-talks while calling or color commentary.
  22. Matt Moses? I will be 75 next month. I played semi- ball for his grandfather, Isaac Moses (pictured below), with the Mt. Sinai Peninsulers. Moses managed for a helluva long time until he gave the on field management to his brother Aaron. Moses had 10 rules, none of which I kept very well. Always make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd base. Ignore metrics. Only manage semi-pro. You will never have a Div III former pitcher telling you what the lineup is for the evening. Make sure that your announcers are not from Mt Dumont. Umps are free game, open season 12 months a year. Get tossed once every 10 games. Chew tobacco. Red Barn, preferably. Catchers can never have a knee on the ground. Every member needs to bring a case (12) balls to the first game of the year. Kids can keep ‘em if they go foul. Try one left-handed shortstop every year. It will confuse the opponents. Let the pitcher hit. Interjects some humor into drubbings. He made an 11th rule at the end of my playing days. Never hire the Mayor of Ft Myers for 3rd base coach.
  23. With the exception of Angel Hernandez, I love umps. Sorry I didn't go to umpire school while I was finishing my undergrad studies in Boca Raton. Too busy with the books and attending Ft Lauderdale Yanks, then part of the FSL, for $.50/game.
  24. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him at Chase Field X 3 games for Canada. Bud is from Canada and he tired of hearing my "he's a Twin, eh?" every time Julien put solid ash on the ball.
