  1. This is nit-picking, I guess, but do Nordgren's numbers really surpass Brady Anderson's five hits, two runs, seven strikeouts in 4 innings of relief?
  2. Where is left-handed pitched Jovani Moran, last year's #7 selection from Puerto Rico? Is he on the DL?
  3. Does anyone know if John Sickels did his Twins shadow draft this year? If he did, can someone post the link?
  4. I like the 2nd round selection. I bet we see one more before round 5.
  5. Oh, well. Starting pitching, starting pitching, starting pitching.
  6. My reaction: Meh! Would rather have a starting pitcher.
  7. Clutterheart, I respectfully disagree with your response to Jimbo's comment about the misuse of the word "ironically" in Seth's report. Seth presents good information in his report, but he likely appreciates the editing feedback. I certainly would. I don't see Jimbo as "trying to show how fluent [he is] in English." Instead, I see him as pointing out a mistake--in baseball mistakes are ruled as errors. We all learn from our mistakes.
  8. Dear USMCTwin Thanks for sharing the information. I've searched for the draft thread and cannot find it. It is probably easy to find, bit I still cannot find it. Any pointers to it are much appreciated.
  9. Any news on Kyle Cody, the Twins Competitive Balance selection between the 2nd and 3rd rounds? He is the only unsigned top10 Twins draft picks. Is there any talk that he won't sign?
  10. Seth and Jeremy, What is the word on Kyle Cody, the Twins' Competitive balance pick between the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the draft? Isn't he their only top 10 pick not signed? He's a very hard thrower who has top of the rotation potential if he can consistently hit the strike zone.
  11. I agree about Beresford. He deserves a shot. Bernier is not part of the future for the Twins. Beresford might be as a utility infielder. It is nice to see how his hitting has improved with time/development.
  12. My break out picks are Tyler Duffy (AAA), John Curtis (not sure of name--6th round pick from U of Texas). Both Duffy and Curtis were relievers when drafted out of college (although Curtis started as a freshman before arm injuries). Curtis filled in as a starter last season and did very well. Keep your eye on him as a starter. My two other break out picks are Alex Swim (catcher) and two outfielders: Tanner English (speed--think Brett Gardner) and Zach Larsen (more punch with the bat than English). How many people this time last year had Santana and Vargas as break out players?
  13. Hu, Duffy and Gilmartin are all doing well since their promotions. I would give the pitcher of the day to Duffy over Hu, but I understand why someone might go with the Low A starter for his 10 Ks yesterday. In case folks haven't noticed, Cedar Rapids is now only 4 games below .500 after playing well below it all season. Hu is one big reason along with hitting by Garver and Harr and Kanzler and some others, but I also think that Burdi has had a positive impact on the team's surge, closing out games (he had his one stinker first time out, but he has been very impressive since then). If Seth or someone would be up to the challenge, it would be great if someone could talk about some of the pitchers who have been on the minor league rosters awhile who likely will not be on the Twins minor league rosters next year. For example, will Summers still be there? How about Boer? How about Corey Williams who seems to have been hurt for most of the season? Will Bard and Chargois ever pitch meaningful games for the TWins minor league teams and regain prospect status or have their respective injuries done them in? Wimmers seems to be pitching better of late. Will he be a Rule 5 candidate? What about Oliveros and the guy the TWins got from the Mets for Johan (pitching at AAA)? I'm leaving out some guys, but I am interested in how the Twins start thinning out their minor league pitching prospects now that they have been restocking the arms over the last 3-4 drafts.
  14. The Twins turned Billy Bullock into Scott Diamond, so that was not a bad move. Granted, the Twins could have kept Diamond on the 25 man roster and not given up Bullock, but Diamond was not pitching well enough to stay. I think the Twins did all right with the trade for Diamond. The Twins drafted a bunch of starters last year, and they are doing fairly well. Boer had a good start his last time out after bad starts in his first season at high A ball. If he can string together several more good starts, then that will be encouraging, and Wheeler and Summers are looking good at Beloit.
