  1. I know this is off topic, but S. Ohtani now has 12 hits in his last 13 ABs with RISP. That's mind-boggling...
  2. I'm not pointing out the error by Farmer to indicate that his fielding in particular is suspect. My point is that the Twins make errors (including mental errors, which are not counted) at an alarming rate and VERY poor decisions in the field, especially in tight games (that is what is typical--it just happened to be on Farmer this time). The series against TB is a case in point. It could have been a sweep save for blunders in the field. (I would DFA Farmer though anyway but not based on his fielding. He's not really a very good hitter IMHO.)
  3. Well-said...it was the ugliest of the ugly. The game typified the season, including an error by Farmer. The only difference was that Castro didn't play five different positions in this one, but the rest of it was more-of-the same. My team assessment: Starting pitching: OK Mid-relief: Mediocre End-relief: Decent Fielding: Beyond atrocious In-game decisions: Poor Line-ups: Head-scratching Base-running: Strange Hitting (besides Correa): Futile Should have been DFA'd: Margot, Farmer, Vasquez (yes, I said it), Irvin (Why must we shop from the island of misfit toys?) Should be in the minors: Lee, Funderburk Anyway, fire away...
  4. I've read some very strange posts in the last couple of weeks, along the lines of 'The Tigers are playing over their heads and will start losing,' and 'KC has a very tough schedule, so that gives the Twins a great chance.' When good players are confident, focused, well-coached on fundamentals and motivated, no mental gymnastics discussing bizarre 'what ifs' should be needed. Good teams like Detroit and KC don't need those things.
  5. When you have to start concocting scenarios involving other teams you know you're in deep trouble....
  6. I'm guessing that the best recipe for October for the Twins is going to be Pumpkin Spice Lattes in the clubhouse after playing 9...holes that is--not innings...
  7. If it were Lopez, does he stay in? Absolutely....and everyone knows this. I think it is demoralizing and wrong not to let Zebby get a chance at a W. Instead, we go to the slum dog island of misfit toys millionaire instead of trusting Zebby's young arm, so you can rationalize all you want, but the decision was wrong from so many angles. Rocco for all of his analytical knowledge has terrible in-game instincts...
  8. "But the pitcher that Baldelli decided to call upon was Cole Irvin. In a game that the Twins absolutely had to have, with the season on the line, they turned to a scrap heap waiver pickup who'd been with the team for less than a week. And they got exactly what they should have expected." Dumping Alcala to make room for Irvin is simply beyond mind-boggling. We now have no middle relief to speak of. We haven't had any fielding for months due to the ring-around-the-rosy defense strategy (costing the Twins loads of games). No one can hit apparently (why did this happen suddenly?) despite all of the lefty/righty matchup moves and the new line-up every night. Rocco doesn't seem to trust his young starters at all. The Twins might stumble into the playoffs but this isn't the NBA (or is it?).
  9. I don't fault Rocco at all for using Duran and Jax on the previous day. The Twins were desperate for a W against Cleveland, but what he doesn't seem to get is that this is already the playoffs. There is no more 'we'll get them tomorrow' scenario, so if he has to say, 'we need you to buckle up' and give us one more inning, so be it.
  10. Yeah...this bugs me to no end. We need him in the field in the 8th and 9th inning especially. I don't really care if he can't swing the bat properly or can't sprint down to first, but I want someone who can field a ball now and then and make the correct decisions and throws...it almost bit the Twins again...
  11. Detroit is not giving up, so the Twins had better start playing with a bit more focus,,,,
  12. How is the inability to play parlayed into underpaying assets? If Buxton or Correa could have grabbed more cash, they would have. If I don't show up for work, I assure you that I will suffer financially much more than these injury-prone players...
  13. I think that playing the young players is not such a bad idea, but the most important thing is to keep folks in the same place on the field for more than one game at a time and have some semblance of a consistent lineup. This musical chairs approach has cost the Twins time and time again. What position am I playing tonight? SS, 3rd, 2nd, left field? Where am I hitting? 1st, 3rd, 7th, 9th? From a mental standpoint, this constant shuffling is not conducive to success IMHO...
  14. Good teams do not implode defensively. That is two consecutive games that the Twins have thrown the game away...say all you want about Varland, but you you cannot give a team five or six outs in one inning...
  15. What was Martin doing out there? Updating his profile pic on X? When I found the video, it said, 'Fly ball single to center,' so I expected one of those unfortunate bloops. Instead, it's a normal fly ball to left but Martin is frozen and then does his cartwheel (or whatever that was) at the last moment.
  16. It looked like a circus in the outfield...that was a very ugly way to lose...
  17. Tough win and very important. We haven't been playing well on the road lately, so starting off the trip with a W is huge. (TB is not a slouch team!!!!!)
  18. Detroit could make a run as they play some very bad teams down the stretch...it is not hard to imagine them winning 10-12 from the worst group...
