  1. Starters can no longer give us seven or even five! Gibson can't throw strikes when he needs to. Perez seems to be a basket case at the moment, and even Berrios was left in too long against Atlanta (IMHO)...just to give the illusion that someone could go seven. The starters have got to step up their games or we'll soon be chasing Cleveland.
  2. This is the version of Gibson I can't handle. Throw strikes! This game was winnable.
  3. I think the point is that his pitches have an interesting trajectory when it leaves his hand. The difference between him and say Mejia (as a bad example) is that Smeltzer can throw the ball pretty much where he wants whereas Mejia has trouble hitting the side of a barn so ends up being very predictable on 2-0 pitches. Control is everything for a pitcher like Smeltzer, but as he appears to have it in spades, he can be an effective pitcher as was demonstrated against the Royals.
  4. As always, a deep bow on this recap. Just for Buxton, maybe we should just make the HL instead of the IL...
  5. When it looked like the Twins were considering Cruz and Cruz was considering the Twins, I started checking sports news every single day to see if they had signed him. When they did, I jumped for joy. He makes the offense better even if he doesn't get any hits. He's still a feared hitter, but now other teams have to fear him instead of the Twins.
  6. Rocco is always taking the long view, so I wasn't a bit surprised to see Berrios come out after only 81 pitches.
  7. Good to beat up on these teams with losing records. With that said, there were more Twins thrown out on the bases once again tonight. Too bad about Poppen...it happens. He'll get a chance to ponder at AAA.
  8. I think you could get Minor because of the weakness of the Rangers at the infield positions. I think if you offered something like Gordon and Valdespin + 1 lower level minor leaguer, the deal is done.
  9. Nice win! I love the low scoring Ws. I am surprised to know that Romo lives outside the zone. That is great against free swinging teams; I hope against teams like the Yankees and Red Sox, he can get them to chase. One weird play was the hit and run with Sano on first. I could see it on 3-1 or 2-1 but not on 3-2. Arraez ended up chasing a pitch he normally wouldn't offer at and we ended up running ourselves out of the inning. Rogers looked good. I think the rest has done him a world of good.
  10. I still think they could swing a bigger deal for Minor and Leclerc. A deal with the Rangers makes a lot of sense. They need infield help desperately and they would probably like at least one more outfielder as well.
  11. I'd love to do a multi-player deal and get Mike Minor as well.
  12. Free Hackimer! Good to see him back in action. He's a tough hombre. A Rooker + Gordon + 1 would look attractive to many a team.
  13. Perez was shaky (4 BBs and the homer-fest), but Baldelli yanked him just in time. I know he was hoping to get him a W, but it is better than getting the team an L. The bullpen was just fine (super in fact)...only one BB over five innings. This should be a recipe for the Twins. Make the Yankees beat you by hitting not be walking, walking and then three-run homers.
  14. What I fear the most against the Yankees is the BBs and falling behind in the count. If Twins pitchers don't come after the Yankees, they're in for a long series. With that said, if the pitching staff comes after the Yankees, I think they'll do just fine.
  15. I've been harping on this as well. I was afraid we might see a Rogers mini-meltdown and we did--in gut-punching fashion. Now we add May and Littel to the list.
