  1. Zunino is outstanding defensively and has 11 or 12 homers even with his low average. I doubt Seattle is in.
  2. If we're looking for free agents, we'll probably have the following to pick from: Catchers - AJ and Ryan Doumit (and maybe Suzuki) 1B/OF - Michael Cuddyer IF - Alexi Casilla and JJ Hardy (Nicky P has an option with the A's) OF - Hunter (Span has an option with the Nats), but Kenny Wilson appears to be available on waivers every couple weeks DH - Kendrys and Delmon Young SP - Francisco Liriano Relievers - LaTroy Hawkins (has option with Rox), Jesse Crain, Craig Breslow (has option with Bosox), Pat Neshek and Jose Mijares On minor league deals we could offer Kubel, Bartlett, Guerrier, Burton, Carl Pavano, Matt Tolbert
  3. Thank you for doing this - it really gets annoying. I'll definately let you know when it next happens to me.
  4. What shocks me the most in this story is Pedro Florimon. Not that he's lifted his average to .244 and showing doubles power, but that he actually played 3B. He's never been comfortable anywhere but SS. If he shows some versatility and keeps his average within earshot of .250, maybe we'll be able to trade him for a GCL player instead of just releasing him when the time comes to clear out the 40-man.
  5. You missed Michael Cuddyer, Jim Perry and Frankie Viola
  6. Much as I hate Scott Boras (and that's not me I might point out even though I AM ScottyB), we can't blame this on him. Lee's agent was Jeff Moorad. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/leetr01.shtml
  7. When was the last time a team signed a DH/1B Free Agent to a 6-year deal? (Ask Kendrys Morales) And what are the odds that Abreu would want to just DH at age 27? My guess is even if the Twins had matched or bypassed the Sox, he wouldn't have come here. Okay, there was Pujols, but he was signed as a full-time 1B.
  8. How about a third option - they knew they were moving Mauer to 1B and he's signed until 2018 with a no trade clause.
  9. In the history of the Twins, they have only had 3 managers with no organization ties - Bill Rigney, Gene Mauch and Ray Miller. And only Miller had no managerial experience. So the odds favor a manager with ties to the Twins. They have only had 5 GM's - Calvin, Howard Fox, Andy MacPhail, TR (twice), and Bill Smith. Only one GM has a World Championship, and that was the only GM with no organization ties before coming here. It is my belief that TR will stay until he has righted the ship - a team above .500 and a playoff contender. At that time he will step down. I feel at that time we need to look outside the organization for a new GM. My personal preference would be to look at the front office of a smaller market team with a long history of contending. I'd look at the front office of the Cardinals, and the guy I'd consider is Matt Slater, their director of player personnel. He's also spent time with Milwaukee, the Dodgers and Baltimore and is the chief talent evaluator for the Cards. He's also negotiated contracts. He's young, experienced and low profile enough to be a good catch. He's also spent some time in Japan. He knows how to build a contender and to keep it going. Put that together with a fairly young manager such as Dougy Baseball or Reddog and our current farm system and we could end up with multiple championships. I do see our current minor league managers as team coaches. The same thing happened when TK became manager and he was made manager because of relationships built with players in the minors.
  10. Was it THE wrist?
  11. The kid continues to be on fire. Through the 7th inning tonight, 3 for 3 with another home run plus a BB. He's 10 for his last 19, with 2 homers. PS Polanco is 3 for 5 tonight with his 6th homer. Why isn't he at NB already - they don't even have a SS with any future there.
  12. $200,000 is a pitence - it could be a lot worse. See the Astros who cheaped out on the #1 pick and didn't sign Aiken (1st rd), Nix (5th rd), and Marshall (21st rd) because of money. The Astros will be shooting for the first 2 picks of next year's draft. Aiken becomes just the third #1 pick to not sign. The other 2 have ties to the Twins - Danny Goodwin by the Chisox in 1971 (later became a Twin), and Twins pick in 1983 - Tim Belcher. Unfortunately, back in 1983, you didn't get a replacement pick if you didn't sign a first round pick.
  13. We still have Deolis Guerra too. What is he, about 45 now?
  14. Okay, so Dick mentioned changes at Rochester including dropping Diamond. Does anyone know what these changes were?
  15. To those who keep pointing to trading Dozier - yes he's playing outstanding defense and hitting for power, but most GM's will point to his .234 average and team-leading 78 strikeouts to try to downplay his value and give less in return. I know many of us would like to see Rosario up, but he's only batting .238 avg/.284 OPB/.349 SLG. Let's put that into perspective - Hicks' slash line since being sent back to NB is .284/.410/.403 and most of us feel he's not ready. Rosario is not ready to take over for Dozier. Escobar is in a slump at SS and if Santana goes back to CF, what's our middle infield going forward. For those who say Dozier's at his peak, I disagree. When he learns to use the whole field as a batter, and he will in the next couple of years, that's when he'll be at his peak and maybe by then Rosario will be ready to take over (or Polanco or one of our other MI'ers).
  16. My guess is Colabello, Herrmann, Pino and Johnson will be sent down and brought back up, Pinto will be up, Polanco will be back up, Vargas will be up, Tonkin will be back, Florimon if he's not DFA'd, if Hicks takes off he could be back and Pressly and Ibarra just to see if they are worth keeping on the 40-man. May will be up before.
  17. I was a programmer 30 years ago, did a lot of software development, specializing in report writing. Think they could use someone with experience in BASIC and FORTRAN?
  18. When Herrmann was last sent down, Gardy said they were going to have him play some CF as insurance. Don't know if they actually played him there.
  19. I think bringing Herrmann up is less about a third catcher and more about another outfielder who could potentially play centerfield after Fuld banged into the fence hard yesterday.
  20. Great news! According to Brett Bollinger Mason Melotakis and (more importantly) JO Berrios have been promoted to New Britain. That's one step closer for the 20 YO Berrios!
  21. If they're looking for shock & awe Arcia's the guy. But I do tend to agree that it screws guys up (although Arcia is screwed up now anyway, so maybe it would help him.)
  22. I'll answer my own question, in his 18 outings only 3 times has he given up his first run in the 4th or later: 1) 2nd inning, 2 runs 2) 2nd inning, 2 runs 3) 5th inning, 1 run 4) 3rd inning, 2 runs 5) 2nd inning, 3 runs 6) 4th inning, 1 run 7) 3rd inning, 2 runs 8) 1st inning, 1 run 9) 4th inning, 1 run 10) 1st inning 2 runs 11) 3rd inning, 1 run 12) 2nd inning, 1 run 13) 1st inning, 3 runs 14) 1st inning, 1 run 15) 2nd inning, 2 runs 16) 1st inning, 2 runs 17) 2nd inning, 1 run 18) 1st inning, 2 runs That's at least 1 run in the first in 6 out of the last 11 games, and at least 1 run in the 1st or 2nd in 9 of 11. Why didn't we sign Kazmir instead of Nolasco and why did we give him a four year deal instead of Hughes?
  23. How many games has Nolasco has where he didn't give up a run early?
