  1. It appeared to me that Julien got his hand on home plate literally a couple milliseconds before contact was made on the tag but the replay was not clearly conclusive. So I think the call on the field would have been upheld whether he was ruled safe or out. Had the play occurred early in the game it probably would not have been challenged. As an aside, I wish the replay process would be changed. I think the reviewer(s) should not be influenced by the call on the field. The replay would need to be stopped before it shows the umpire making the call. The play would be called one way, or the other way, or inconclusive. Only if the reviewer rules inconclusive would the call on the field stand.
  2. An analogy comes to mind. It's like driving on a winding road behind someone who is going three MPH slower than you want to go. It's frustrating and you want to pass but either there's no opportunity or the risk of making a move is too high for the small increase in speed. So you wind up deciding that the best course of action is to hold your position and hope something changes in your favor.
  3. In a way I find this encouraging. In spite of being the worst hitting team in this regard we are in first place. Moreover, it seems unlikely that our performance with the bases loaded will continue to be this bad. So even with average production in those situations our run production should increase for the remainder of the season.
  4. I believe that was mentioned in the Strib as well.
  5. Julien touched home, tag was made, timing too close to overturn.
  6. Son of Nintendo? I didn't realize he was Jewish.
  7. The game so far tonight is what I envisioned for this team coming out of spring training. Why has it taken 3+ months to emerge?
  8. Whatever happened in the last couple days worked!
  9. Gardy calling Bremer "Dudley". Anybody know what that's about?
  10. Nothing like some substandard pitching to help a batter break out of a slump.
  11. Lead off dinger by the Sox? Ehhhh, so ****ing what?
  12. Irene Ryan didn't receive an Emmy for portraying Granny but I find it hard to believe anyone did a better job in a role than she did. She was fantastic.
  13. I was at Metropolitan Stadium on July 4, 1973.
  14. For Pete's sake. Any and every player should be traded if the transaction makes the organization better. But it's waaaaay doubtful that this would be the case in a Ryan trade. Giving up a very good, young, controllable starter like Ryan would happen only if the overpay from the other team(s) involved is huge. Jumbo. Ginormous! Woo! Woo!
  15. This is not a demand by Lewis or his agent. It's just an expression of preference. The team still decides who plays where no matter what they say, and in Lewis' case I don't foresee him squawking about where he plays. But I agree with others that the infield is where Lewis is best suited, for the benefit of both him and the team.
  16. I concur with all this, except to say that there have been player-managers over the years and a DH would be the easiest position to play while managing.
  17. Why is that needed? And how fast is immediate? Robo umps are quick enough that I didn't notice any delay at the AAA game I recently attended (in which the subject of this thread played).
