  1. If Twins get 1-2 more above average relievers this is a completely different team. No offense but I don't see anyway White Sox walk away even with their incredibly weak schedule. We are talking a 9 game difference. That is a very large amount. Really our Top 4 starting pitchers have been solid all year, and they seemed to get refreshed after the All Star Break. So to Win, Twins need to trade for 2 relievers minimum. have a healthy Buxton who begins to hit for higher average, wait for injury reinforcements on the pitching side for the bullpen. If can get 1-2 more arms back and we still have the lead in the division or tied, that might be enough.
  2. Well if Priellip signed overslot, they either have others already signed, or they feel comfortable they will be able to make up the money later. That sounds very good. It looks like everything is going smoothly with signing players.
  3. I’m not sure we can say we are weak when we have Ryan Ober and Winder that have been succeeding at the major league level, smeltzer which has been a nice depth arm this year and 10 other pitchers with a legitimate shot at making the big leagues in the next couple years. Honestly what the young pitchers have done at the MLB level is amazing and wasn’t expected when the year started. For as barren as the cupboard was 5 years ago this is a night and day improvement.
  4. There was rumors they signed Priellip today overslot. Also regarding Daniel since he was injured and going to a Juco and if he doesn’t sign, the Twins have up to a year to sign him for $225,000. This sounds like what will likely occur.
  5. Did we conveniently forget Ober, Winder or even smeltzer? They haven’t produced a #1 or #2 but they are starting to show they are building a pipeline. Now again this pipeline doesn’t appear to have a sure fire hit but there are 10 plus arms that could be big leaguers in 2-3 years. Not mentioned in the article but by others - Povich Hajjar Festa, Varland and Headrick creates a very strong top 10. I can’t rate them, I would think Balazovic would be down a bit but he could just have an injury or a mental block this year. I will give it one year more before I write him off. Cantering feels a little bit like fools gold, has everything except when you get close in this case he just isn’t available.
  6. It’s not horrible it’s all relative. Many want to say you are giving up on a season when the season is likely already lost. The whit Sox face the weakest completion from here on out and appear to be getting their act together. Whether we trade Correa or keep him for the rest of the year will likely make minimal difference. If someone offered an overpay consider it. If it included a lessor short stop with another year of control it could be interesting. I am not willing to just say it’s not an option, however much of the fan base just wouldn’t understand it.
  7. Pitcher Ethridge - relief Pitcher k/9 is pretty good. Better than 1 strikeout an inning.
  8. https://www.dailyemerald.com/sports/ducks-to-watch-in-the-2022-mlb-draft/article_d0dc9af6-fb31-11ec-be3a-cf149599b9ff.html "The Ducks have two other high school commits who could be drafted — shortstops Dominic Hellman and Omari Daniel. Neither is as highly regarded as Cox, so it will be interesting to see if they wind up at Oregon or not. Daniel won’t be attending Oregon until 2024."
  9. might be a backup plan if something were to go haywire with Priellip. I am guessing he is mormon and doing a 2 year mission as he would not be attending Oregon until 2024. Maybe a player you stash for a couple years.
  10. Ok trying to figure out what is going on, he is commit to Oregon but would not be attending until 2024. Is he mormon or was he going to prep school or community college, seems very odd.
  11. after pick 8 - I agree with you I think they were planning to take him 8. When Lee fell they probably reconfirmed numbers. This would have first occurred after calling and confirming with Lee's agent. Then they likely called Schobel agent after they selected Prielipp.
  12. Culpepper - currently SP FB 90-92, high spin rate on pitches nice sweeping curveball 6'3" good body type to add some velocity. Most likely a RP down the road.
  13. Pretty sure they can, but will wait to see. They were saving every penny they could yesterday. Probably firmed up a couple numbers last night this morning. Should be in pretty good shape to take a few more gambles.
  14. 2 years in a row doubled up on catchers in the general same range.
  15. 2 agents, Lee confirming they had a good number and Prielipps to verify he was still willing to be picked by the Twins and what number would be reasonable. Calls happen during the draft. They can't call a hundred players or agents but the can definitely call a handful.
  16. There was almost 3 hours between pick 8 and 48. Pretty sure someone was calling an agent or two to verify numbers. Players do not turn down 1st round money every year. If they do they are high school players willing to bet on themselves. You had birdsell willing to bet on himself last year but he was 10th round draft pick and improved to 5. When was the last player to turn down a contract in the top 2 rounds due to money? And how many times has in occurred in the last 10 years?
  17. Not only a catcher but he sounds pretty good. Looks like a good hit tool, decent power. Best Player in the A10.
  18. They were absolutely on the phone with the agent to discuss the numbers during the draft. This is a common occurrence. Players will usually say my agent got a call. FYI they would have been doing this all day yesterday calling players and saying will you take 100k, will you take 40k to save money likely for Prielipp. Basically they are discussing the financials to assume both are on the same page. Now on Day 3 teams may take some flyers like we did with Birdsell last year. You don't mess around with someone you are willing to spend 2.5 to 4 million dollars on. He is going to likely end up with 1st round money. Even if he is getting a little less than he expected before the draft there is no way he is risking 1st round money to try again next year. Just as the above person commented, he wasn't willing to play this year even though he could have to not jeopardize his draft standing. I am saying this is a done deal. If you don't want to fine, that's your prerogative.
  19. The parameters would have been discussed before they picked him at 48th. They wouldn't have just gone in blind and hoped they could figure it out. They knew the number then came up with dollar slots they could spend at draft picks 2 comp, and 4-10. They know what they are doing. Priellip doesn't sign and he is in a similar situation to Rocker is making less than he would have had he signed last year. He should have made his medical available before the draft.
  20. If you can find a top of the rotation starter and a player they feel very confident will be a major league player, possibly at SS or 3rd, with the potential for a utility player; that is an excellent draft any day of the year. If the can find 1, 2 or 3 rotational pieces for the field or pitching (4th or 5th start or RP) this draft would be a home run. There is a long way to go and prospects are a crap shoot but this feels better at the top than say a 2019 draft where we were counting on Cavaco to develop. Lee is fairly close to major league ready. Will likely be in AA by next year. Priellip may take some time to heal and get stronger, but will likely be pushing for time on the big league team in 2025 or 2026. We received higher end talent than we get most years with a higher probability of hitting and also being very very good players, possibly all stars ect.
  21. Todays pick confirms even more what the twins talent evaluators and front office thought of yesterdays picks, they knocked it out of the park, and today was saving every Penny for the 3 big ticket items they got on day 1. It also tells you they think Lee is a shortstop with an elite bat, and Priellip was a top 15-20 prospect in their eyes and can be a top end starter for the Twins. Schobel was the cherry on top. Based on their actions I think the front office thinks all 3 of these players are going to be key pieces in the future and they were willing to sacrifice day 2 for that. To me day 2 looks like a lot of lottery picks. You have a second baseman that had tommy John and came out of no where to be a key player for Tennesse. We took a couple more shortstops from small schools with excellent bat skills for the levels they played at. As for the pitchers the early picks don’t stand out, but towards the end we ended with their stand by tall pitchers with high K/9. I think these pitchers would have normally been late day 2 to early day 3 picks. I have full confidence that the Twins will find a gem or two out of the day 2 or even day 3 pitchers and or hitters that will be drafted tomorrow. They have earned that right from the 2019 and 2021 drafts. More and more I am disappointed the Twins missed out on a full draft in 2020. We have one more day to fill up on more lotto tickets, while we continue to admire our big purchases we got on day 1. Boy does this draft feel good.
  22. 10th round draft pick to be Minor League fodder with the possibility of being a much better contact hitter than a 10th round batter should be. Its worth the risk. One of these might take off and be decent depth. I think the Twins are starting to build 2 different models, 1 that will work with a dead ball and one that will work with a lively ball. Need almost 2 different players to successfully compete.
  23. Another contact hitter .378. Definitely a different draft in hitters, going for high contact OBP players.
  24. Last year we also picked our 2 catchers in the 10th and 11th round, they may have a player or two they are still willing to draft, but it wasn't necessary to spend much draft capital on. We are definitely going pitcher heavy though.
