  1. Because Dozier and Buxton are in great shape, that's why. That said, I am more than frustrated at how Buxton hits. He as of now, is a poor hitter that plays great defense. We all expect more than that. Also, Lynn, Morrison, and Hughes are slugs and not elite talents. At their best, they are a little more valuable than replacement players. Sano, if he reaches his potential IS an MVP type player IMO. Seriously, that bat is something special.
  2. He's a nice player. Really like the pop in his bat. He's also aggressive in the field. If he could take more pitches/walks, he would be a complete package at the plate. Either way, he makes things happen and is pretty much in the prime of his career. Go Eddie!!
  3. Here's the way I say it. Miguel is overweight and it doesn't seem as if he is working hard on his craft to improve. I guess I wouldn't care what he weighed, if he were to work on laying off breaking pitches on the outside part of the plate. I mean, it is REALLY obvious how teams are going to pitch him now, and he doesn't seem to adjust at all. That combined with not being in great shape, being hurt all the time, etc, points to possible a larger problem with how hard the guy works. He has all the talent in the world and more power than most if not all of the guys in the league. However, if he doesn't work hard to improve himself and be at the top of his game, then yes, we will all probably need to lower our expectations of him. All of that said, if the Twins give up on this guy it will be a huge mistake. They haven't had a hitter with this kind of power in their organization for quite some time. We let him go, he will sign on somewhere else, they will make him work and he will end up a phenomenal power hitter IMO. Twins need to figure out how to get him to work. Remember Morneau when he came up? He wasn't great either and was following the same type of path Sano is. Gardenhire or someone straightened him out and there you had it, an MVP power hitter who had a knack of driving in runs. DON'T give up on this guy!!
  4. Remember Lynn has been terrible. IMO, he will be the first to go or be demoted to the BP.
  5. This kid looks like the real deal. The stuff alone makes him a clear notch above most. He also seems supremely confident, which bodes well also. Him and Berrios at the top if these guys truly keep maturing looks to be a great 1-2 punch. Gonsalves? Sure, he should be fine, but I see him as a #4 type guy. Berrios and Romero have electric pitches/movement, etc. They are both a joy to watch up there.
  6. Lynn has to have a pretty short leash at this point also. I wouldn't be afraid to send both him and Hughes packing. What is the difference if they get shelled or some youngster does? Maybe it's small sample size for the season, but watching them pitch, neither of them looks to have it anymore. Hoping Lynn at least turns it around, but how many games are they gonna watch him walk a pile of guys and give up 5-6 runs a start?
  7. It's kind of the Twin MO though throughout the years. Sign washed up vets and let them get their head beat in for half a season before making a change. I am always of the belief if you are going to sign FAs, sign high end guys and forget about guys like Lance Lynn. IMO, there are 2-3 guys in our system right now that could do as good or better than he has for the league minimum, with no feelings of "having" to keep them in the rotation because you have a decent wad of money invested in them.
  8. I'm not sure what to think about Buxton so far. I LOVE the defense he plays. At the plate, he has shown flashes for sure. That said, he sure seems like he is a guess hitter most of the time. Overall, I'm sure he will improve there he's still very young. The thing that bothers me the most about him though is that he seems to be soft as charmin. Whether that is because he plays so hard and ends up getting injured, or if he just can't play unless he's 100%, I don't know. Either way, he has missed time each season for injuries throughout his career, that is concerning.
  9. It is just super odd how this team has such a hard time playing against the pinstripes. As has been said, even when they aren't this unbeatable squad, the Twins seem to make them that way. No matter who is on our roster and who is on theirs. I'm not even sure it is psychological what with the different roster makeups. Either way, it gets old to fans! BEAT the Yankees!!
  10. Sano does for sure. Morrison can sit just because he has done nothing.
  11. Send a message to the slugs of the lineup if you are going to do anything. I would tell Morrison to get his **** together, or here is a bus ticket. Sano needs some bench time as well. I hate to break it to him, but until he learns to hit breaking pitches, that is all he will see. He rarely even makes contact with them right now. Buxton coming back will help the defense for sure. At the plate though, he hasn't been good yet this year and it's possible he will make the lineup even worse. Him coming back and producing at the plate would really help this team. As far as the pitching goes? It can't get worse right? Bullpen needs some help. Not sure where it will come from but I can tell you Zack Duke needs to sit for awhile, he likes to give up homeruns. Also curious as to what is going on with Hildenberger, seems like team had trouble picking him up last year???
  12. Isn't it kind of plainly obvious the reason Sano strikes out quite frequently? I mean, the guy is a pretty darn good hitter, but breaking balls are not his forte. Work, work, work on learning how to handle them better and the sky is the limit with him. I get it though, the work, work, work part is the thing people are questioning. He will have to have an epiphany at some point if he wants to reach the next level as a player IMO. I am thouh, totally against those that think we should move him, etc. That is the kind of thinking that set this franchise back 10 years ago. It's OK to keep productive players. You don't always have to move anything valuable you have for an A ball pitcher filled with "upside".
  13. I agree with others. Yes, some things could have gone the other way pitching-wise. But to give up 3 runs in an extra inning game is not bad. Needed some more offense. One or both of those Rosario deep shots goes another 2-3 feet and the Twins win the game in 9. They will be fine. Good fight shown by the team, not too worried, it's only one game.
  14. What is the huge facination with Gordon? Slap hitting, decent at best OB guy who's glove is said to be fringy at short? He's trade bait all day if I am running this organization. Bring him up here and let him fail, now you are looking at a guy who was thought of as a top prospect now being worth little. Leave him down until the trade deadline, then package him up and get us the best reliever and starter out there to help them go on a run.
  15. He's your starting shortstop. Getting into WAR this and WAR that is foolish in this situation. The kid has/had an opportunity to lock down this position for the next few years at least. Besides catcher, THE most important position on the diamond. The Twins are not as good without him as they are with him. That's the bottom line IMO. Heck, he carried this team for a stretch with his bat last year also, remember?
  16. That article is sad. I kinda wish the Twins would at least offer a 3-4 year deal to the guy. I'm of the thought that Gordon is at best a utility guy. He'd be here by now if he were any good. Slap hitter, set for the bottom of the order vs. a guy you can slot in anywhere in the top 4 spots of your lineup. I get the fact that there are some options in our organization, but Dozier is still in his prime. Unless he is truly looking for the 4-6 year deal, I think the Twins should at least be exploring options with him.
  17. This signing is fine if it's paired with another high end guy or trade for a high end guy in the next 2 years. If not, it's just another dumpster dive. I appreciate the FO thinking outside of the box, but at one time or another, I would just like to have a stud gift wrapped and placed under the Christmas tree. Not one that has to be fixed the minute you open it.
  18. This is a meh type move for me. As usual, the Twins dabble in the mid-ranges of Free Agency. My opinion is that if you aren't going to sign true impact FAs, then fill in within your system. I'm of the belief that one stud = 3 marginal types. Not sure why the Twins have never tried this approach. Buy the best available player out there in your position of need, then fill in the other holes from within your organization. A guy like Rodney likely just gets in the way of someone younger than he and costs games in the process. Not sure if anyone remembers the guy, but he is a walk machine and can and will implode at a moments notice. Not impressed. Do we think they are saving money for that big name starter? Possibly, but the track record of the Pohlad's says hell no.
