  1. Trevor May will decide this series for the Twins. Write that down. It will be a close game and he is the one most likely to implode IMO. He has to keep it together and throw strikes, attack hitters when we are in a 1-run game and he has to face dangerous hitters. Twins are going to score. I have faith that Cruz is going to have a monster series and if Kepler is back, he is going to have an impact. Sano will hit at least 1 bomb that is going to make a difference as well. NO ERRORS, especially out of the SS position. Polanco must play excellent defense. LETS GO TWINS!!
  2. I'm glad that Adrianza is on the roster. He must be healthy, otherwise I doubt he would be with. I would use him late in the game as a defensive replacement. With Schoop, Aarez, Adriaza, Polanco, you have some nice options there depending upon who starts and who sits. As for the pitching, I don't see a ton of value in having Gibson on there unless you are planning on using him only in mopup situations to keep the rest of your guys fresh. That said, he has done it before and it's the playoffs, anything can happen maybe he gives us some good innings.
  3. Time to end the damn curse. They just need to pitch at the front end and I think we win. I have faith our best bullpen guys can do it. Need to get to their starters though. Their bullpen is even better than ours has been once you shrink it down and only use their top guys. Something will also likely happen in that stadium. It has every other time. Bad call, cheap HR, something. They need to play through it and no implode when it happens. Win 1 there and they are in good shape.
  4. Their minor league hitting numbers are pretty similar. And I would still package and trade any of them in an instant without blinking if it brings back high end pitching.
  5. Corner outfielders aren't worth a ton. Never have been. It is one of the easiest positions to fill in all of MLB. All the fawning over Larnach, Kiriloff I don't get. They are Jason Kubel. If someone asks for them in a trade for someone you really want in your pitching rotation, I do it in a heartbeat without even thinking about it.
  6. I would think they would put him on the playoff roster either way, won't they? Even if he can't play the field, I would think he could still be used as a late pinch hitter.
  7. I think you have to at least feel it out this offseason. See where he's at as far as what he wants. This kind of guy on the open market in 2 years gets 20-25 million a year if he can keep up the production he has shown this season. Maybe I'm wrong but with the way he hits the ball, I see him as a super hot commodity if he makes it to free agency.
  8. LOL Come on now. There isn't a hitter on this years team or available througout baseball you would sit Nelson Cruz for in order to get playing time. Cruz is the DH on this team, period. Larnach, Rooker, Tortuga. All of them will be lucky to even stick in the league. We don't worry about rookies needing a spot when the hitter they are replacing are among the best in the game. Sano is also able to move whomever the Twins will employ off 1B before they sit a guy like Cruz in order to play any of the three you mentioned in the next couple years.
  9. Buxton if he stays healthy is probably more valuable, IF and it's an if still, he hits. 2 "IFs" to make Buxton's case. He had 80 games one year and about 30 another where he hit the ball well. Besides that, he has been worse than poor at the plate. Was he turning the corner? That's the hope and if he can OPS .800 or higher with the level of defense he has, he's more valuable. For Sano, I think we might be looking at a top 5 power hitter in MLB here. He has finally gotten himself back to where he started his career where he waits for a pitch he can drive hard and hits it harder and farther than anyone I myself personally have ever seen wearing a Twins uniform. Either way, like has already been expressed, a year or so ago, we didn't know if either of these guys would even stick at the MLB level. Now we are possibly looking at the 2 players we thought we had and that is 2 of the very top players in all of baseball. Keep them both here and add what it takes to get a championship. 06-10 you had it and didn't do anything. This time around lets get it right, not cheap out and go for it. Hopefully this year is the start of a run of dominate baseball here in MN.
  10. Look at how last year's reliever FA's panned out. I wouldn't go wasting tons of money on them this offseason. Especially when you have so many candidates here already that have performed well. Dyson will absolutely be in our pen next year. If it were me, I would be looking to land a #1-3 type starter in FA and resign some of the guys we already have. Get the BEST guy available and lets roll in and pair him with Berrios.
  11. Curious why you would do that with so much team control left? It'd be extremely foolish IMO to offer him a long term deal right now. Let it play out. No sense in paying him tons when we can use him up for cheap for quite some time yet.
  12. You might be right on Thorpe, but I'm definitely not talking about Gonsalves, Stewart, Dobnak, or Smeltzer. Gonsalves and Stewart should be DFAed to make room on the 40-man, Smetzer and Dobnak run the AAA-Majors train until their options are up.
  13. Berrios, 2 of Pineda/Odo/Gibson, system guy, Stud FA. That is how I would approach it if it were me.
  14. Right but then why not role with someone from your system? Thorpe will give you league average over the course of a season. Pay your 4th and 5th guys peanuts and go spend real money on a single stud, rather than try to get 2-3 mid-tier guys who will likely only perform about the same as you would get from guys in your own system already that are cheap and under control.
  15. Both Gibson and Perez are recipes for disaster in the playoffs. 2 patient lineups you'd be facing, the walks will pile up and you'll be in a huge hole early. I'd leave them both off the playoff roster and also tell them I'm done with them for good unless they are willing to take short term prove it deals. Walking guys and giving up HRs are what these 2 are good for. They will be murdered by either Houston or the Yankees. That or tell them there is 1 spot for the 2 of you, someone win it before the season is over and start whichever one you pick with a very short leash. That said, I don't really like the idea of beating up your bullpen in games you figure you have less than a 50% chance of winning anyway. You know that Ordorizi is likely gonna give you 4-5 innings in each of his starts, that will tax the bullpen. Berrios could go either way. Get knocked out in 2 innings or pitch deep into it. Lets hope its the latter.
  16. I was at the game last night. Gibson was not sharp at all. He was hit hard, everything off the bat was a rocket. His pace in the game is also painfully slow and doesn't attack hitters. Flat out, we need some of our guys to get healthy. The lineup they had out there last night had 2-3 automatic outs in it and with our starting pitching being what it is, we can't have that.
  17. Don't bet on it my friend. You have to take the chance when you are hot. I am not saying this team won't be successful again, but this is a special year with this offense. These injuries, and starting pitching problems are a real bummer.
  18. Playoffs me-boy. I should have noted that when I talked about winning. Kirby won like hell in the postseason and sometimes did it almost all on his own. Also, you had 2 divisions and you had to win one of them to make playoffs during Puckett's time. What is Joe's playoff record? I'll hang up and listen...
  19. Not sure, but I don't think he had any other options. It was stay in retirement or get paid more money. He chose to take the money. That said, it can't be any fun and I am not sure how long he will last there.
  20. For me this is Kirby all the way. But I never saw Killer play either. Just that stretch from 86-92 that Puckett was a part of and a great player. And him being the leader to this state's only 2 world championships. I think that alone makes him stand out. The guy was a winner and the game 6 homerun is still THE BIGGEST moment in the history of Minnesota sports.
  21. Mauer probably will never be as loved as the other 2. Just because he didn't win much or at least didn't win in the playoffs at all. Great guy, great player, hometown kid, etc. I wouldn't put him anywhere near Killebrew, Carew, or Kirby though. Just too much losing while Joe was here and lots of people had the feeling that his contract was a large reason for that losing.
  22. You might be right. He might not be the best option. I just feel like if you can bring it over 100 mph and have any semblance of control paired with almost any off speed pitch, you are gonna have success. Either way, they would have time to audition him before they decide if they really wanted to use him in the playoffs. I think it's worth the try. A guy like that, if successful could be a huge piece for any playoff run.
  23. Thome was awesome but what Cruz is doing this year has been phenomenal. The sad thing is Twins have had the opportunity to sign Nelson Cruz quite a few times over the years. He and Adrian Beltre were 2 guys I always wanted to Twins to go after, but they just never did.
  24. You might be right and he has been pretty good this season. That said, I don't want him anywhere near the mound in a playoff game if it is close. Sorry, but I just don't trust him.
  25. If they won't add impact players through FA or trades, then they damn well better not care about service time when it comes to adding some talent from your own system that has a chance to make a real impact on a winning season. If they don't add Graterol, I'm pretty sure there will be some angry people. Why not use your best option? Who knows if the guy gets hurt in a year or two and is done? It's happened plenty before. If he is producing(which he has been) and they feel he is ready and can help the club, not getting him up here over service time is a disservice to the ML team and its fans.
