  1. I can kind of buy into this. If Gibson is on this team as a #3-4 guy, I am fine with it. The problem is, he was counted on to be our #2 and hasn't pitched like it this season. I'd offer him a 2 year deal for like 25 mill and see if he bites. Wouldn't go over 2 years with him though. If he gets 3-4 somewhere else(most likely will), then so be it.
  2. Adrianza quietly having a fantastic year. He has been an extremely valuable bench player. Glad he is with us. Good teams need guys like this.
  3. I also thought Perez got kind of lucky last night. He wiggled out of all kinds of trouble and was having kind of a hard time throwing strikes, etc. That said, we will take it for last night. I was also VERY impressed with the way Dyson looked last night. His stuff was fantastic and he pumped strikes in pitch after pitch. If he can keep that up, it will help immensely.
  4. That’s funny that trade ask for Gerrit Cole and exactly the type of crap the Twins have been pulling for years. Holding onto guys with the upside of bench players and fill ins acting as if they are the next coming. 2 slap hitters and a reliever prospect. We fleece them if we make that trade. That’s likely the same type of deal that would have got us Stroman as well.
  5. And my point is that to expect an offensive output similar to this year going forward isn't very realistic either. Cruz is having a monster year. Yes, he looks great, but will be 40 next year, who knows when the downturn will come. Kepler hitting bombs like it is his job is something I will bet no one thought would happen this season. Cron producing at the level he has is also something I don't think many bet on. Arreaz being an absolute stud from day one. Wait till the book gets out on him. My point is, the stars are aligned right now and the FO did jack squat to address it. Next year, this team could go back to average offensive production, then you will need excellent pitching just to be as good as they were this year, which we are finding out might not be enough the way it is. I guess I am just frustrated with all the years of the Twins being in this exact same positions and never doing anything to supplement. Now we have a new FO that promised to add if needed, an owner who says money is no object if it will help the team, etc. Turns out, it was the exact same type of process that has went on for years here. Iron is hot and ready, our core is producing, then you add a few B-C level options that don't move the needle. Hoard prospects that may or may not ever produce. Leak information to your beat writers acting as if the prices were unattainable to get real help, then we find out teams like the Mets get a nice starter for guys that wouldn't even be in our top 15 of prospect. Just gets old thats all.
  6. So, what makes you think that next year is a step back and the year after won't be? The pitching coming up? Because as of now, our minor leagues has produced Berrios and that's about it really. You know they won't trade for anyone, or buy a good starter, right? I think this year was the year and their chance. Do I think we could still be good for a few years? Heck yeah, they should be. But I don't think you will have this kind of offense again, maybe ever. Realize, what the Twins are doing this year with the bat is historic for this franchise.
  7. I would go with 3. Bring your 4th guy along in case any of the three don't handle it well and you need someone to take innings. We simply can't afford to send anyone out there in a playoff game that walks a ton of guys. I also want that Graterol kid up here. Even if he only gives you an inning here and there, he is about the only chance of a real upgrade we have. If he can throw strikes, get him up here and get his feet wet so we can see if he is ready to pitch out of the bullpen in the playoffs.
  8. Doesn't take a genuis to see that he probably doesn't have what it takes to be a ML starter. His fastball sits at 89 mph. That just doesn't get it done unless you have pinpoint control. Sure wish the pitching staff would have been addressed. It is just a darn shame to waste the offense we have this year. But alas. Those expecting it to change are probably in for a rude awakening. People are buying tickets and spending money. That is, was, and probably always will be the #1 goal with this organization. Too bad really, we've had some pretty good chances on a few of these teams the last 15 years or so if they had only added those last few pieces. They would cost money or prospects though. Both of which we hate to give up because FA cost money, and letting go of prospects that we can control for a low dollar amount stings them to no end.
  9. I like this post. And to make matters worse. The guys they traded for last year weren't able to be dealt this deadline for anything worth a snort. But they sure as heck were enough to pry the Twins best reliever away from us last year. What a huge loss not having Pressly on this team is. And I don't want to hear he wasn't as good here from anyone. He was studly towards the end of his time with the Twins. The Astros saw it, offered us some prospects that project as a back of the rotation guy and a 4th outfielder and the Twins couldn't resist. Those are exactly the types of players they can hold onto and pay nearly nothing to fill out a major league roster.
  10. Honestly, burn it. Who cares. If he is as good as advertised, you won't need all of those option years because he will be up and playing with the big club. That said, if he comes up and struggles mightily and has to be sent back down, I think you lose a little of his trade value if you are thinking there is any chance you move him this offseason. There is also the confidence thing. He might not be ready and by exposing him and possibly him failing, you might do more harm than good to the kid's development.
  11. I'm just worried that our starters are wearing down. It seems like it to me. Hopefully this is just a bad stretch they are going through. But with Pineda hurt, Berrios velocity down last game, Perez struggling mightily and Gibson not able to throw strikes, it just has the feel of a staff that is starting to get tired. Hope they can dig down and give us what we need from them to continue forward and do some more winning. They literally need to take 2 of these last 3 against Cleveland so our division lead can stay where it was when this series started. We will see I guess.
  12. Duffey? I don't think so. He isn't any more trustworthy than the worst guys out there. If I'm Rocco I go to the FO and tell them I want these young fireballers up here. I also go to Romo and Rogers and tell them to eat their wheaties because we have to lean on you heavy. Bottom line either way. Our starters have to at least keep you in games. I mean give up 4 runs over 6 innings and we have a chance with this team. Lately, they haven't even been able to do that.
  13. Just can't walk so many guys. That is where the game was lost. Just come out and give us even a marginal performance in these last 3 games and we are sitting pretty right now.
  14. Huge series. No it won't decide the division but a whooping put on one team or another could severely hurt the other's chances and put whichever into a tailspin. I will predict a split or the Twins win 3 of 4. I just think we are a better team. However, if our pitching doesn't show up. Like it was in the Braves series, this could go the wrong way fast. Pitch the damn ball guys. It's time for a few of them to step up, this offense has carried us all season.
  15. Either way all of this could have been avoided had the Twins went after it and picked up Diaz or Vazquez. They didn't though and tried to little engine that could their way into a cheap guy that wouldn't cost them much in prospects. I don't feel bad for them one bit. They got what they paid for.
  16. Exactly. This is an unprecedented season from our offense. The best in Twins history maybe. And you add 2 marginal BP guys. They should have been looking to add the best starter available and the best reliever available and fans should expect nothing less.
  17. Nice post/article. I don't see Dyson as IMPACT help any way you slice it though. Not in my opinion. If he was impact help, he would have cost us a prospect that other teams see as a real part of their future. Impact help in the BP was Diaz from the Mets. Or some other guy with hard stuff and hammer breaking pitches. At best, even if we were getting the type of guy we thought we were, Dyson is a guy that doesn't strike many out, and has marginal type stuff. Is he better than what we had? Probably, or at least when healthy he should be. But I wouldn't call it impact help. Just my opinion. The twins scouting department and FO should be scolded heavily for this mistake. Getting a guy that was injured and showing signs of it before he was traded feels like they didn't do their homework on him. He was in a stretch of sucking before he got here, and he's been bad/hurt here now.
  18. Right because if you believe in the core you have right now, then you either add to it with players from outside your organization, or you use the guys that are being asked for in trades to help them out. I'm not 100% for signing Free Agents all the time for big deals by any means. But I do believe in trading prospects for proven players when the time is right. 2006, 2010, and now 2019. These are the 3 years in the past 15 that this team has had a real chance to go for a WS. So far, no additions that makes anybody turn their heads. Also, if we can all recall, what happened to our teams after those seasons? Anyone remember? I sure do. They MISSED the playoffs and were back to mediocrity for quite some time again. If their plan had worked, then those teams would have been able to sustain competitiveness right after those good seasons. In fact, they did NOT, so I don't see what the big hub-ub is/was with holding onto piles of these guys all the time, when we all know that there are weaknesses that needed to be addressed to give these teams a real shot to do well in the playoffs.
  19. I agree with you 2. It’s all bs and lip service. When has this organization gone all in? EVER? No they haven’t. What makes you think they will now next year? Guess what? Max Kepler ain’t hitting 40 bombs next year and you likely aren’t getting 30 out of your catcher spot either. Also having a 39 year old DH that is RAKING sure helps but shouldn’t be counted on for another season either. Things have fell right and the team has played well this year yet they still didn’t add. Also, this article states Toronto wanted our top 2 prospects for Stroman. I highly doubt this is true as they settled for 2 guys that wouldn’t even make this organizations top 10.
  20. They are gonna have to start getting creative. Especially when rosters expand. Time to use the opener/primary pitcher strategy. We simply do not have good enough arms to go more than 3-4 at most deep in the rotation. They are gonna have to mix it up. And also hope Berrios gets back into form, Pineda gets healthy and Gibson can be consitent. Hopefully those 3, Rogers and Romo can get us through the playoffs. Because as I see it, that is about all we have throughout the entire pitching staff.
  21. Really, REALLY, hope this isn't the case. People have been waiting around a long time for our home grown talent to be here and producing to finally make a run for it. Well, here it is. Most of it is up here and producing but they need to add in order to give themselves a real shot to win in the playoffs. IMO, this trade deadline is the most important thing that has happened around here in a long time and definitely the biggest point in the careers of the 2 wonderkids we have running the show.
  22. Why is that? If Kiriloff is able to be traded for a controllable top of the rotation piece, move him. You have some nice outfielders on your team. Lock up Eddie and Buxton and this team will be fine for years to come. If it is me, I go over to the Mets and offer a guy like Kiriloff + another 10-20 guy for one of those high end starters they have. It is OK to send out good talent if you are getting good talent in return. The iron is hot now, go ahead and do what it takes.
  23. If it were me, I just start Austudillo and use the other 2 as backups. I don't care what metrics say, I don't care who thinks who is better defensively. Austudillo is a ballplayer. He hits the ball and from what I have seen of him, he plays defense well also. Give the damn guy the reigns. If he is able to keep the kind of production from last year, spring training and his hot start here, he is a friggen all star. The other 2, I don't care how you slice it, are average at best catchers when you look at their entire game.
  24. Without knowing the numbers, it's hard to figure this. I'm fine with him not signing this year though. One more prove it year is fine. If he keeps improving, then they will have to pony up. If he doesn't, he will probably have to settle for the kind of money they offered him right now. Either is probably good for the Twins.
