  1. Nice article and as said, a great idea. These are the kind of guys I love taking a chance on. Young, talented, had a bad year, but a strong bounce back candidate. I also agree with how you are looking at it. If he comes in here, he comes in with our club thinking he will be a back of the rotation type guy and if you get more great. Throwing all you eggs in his basket as your top pitching FA/Trade guy though would be risky IMO.
  2. I hope we keep this guy around. He reminds me of Carl Pavano. Nothing that suggest he is a #1 type guy or anything, but the type of cat that will go out and give you a solid 5-6 almost every game and once in awhile jump up and give you more. He's a perfect #3 type guy. IMO, he has lots of value both here and on the FA market. One of those guys that you pretty much know what you are going to get from him every game. I mean he's pretty much been the same guy his entire career. He was good in Tampa and he has been good here. With the situation the Twins are in, even if he decides he doesn't want the QO, I would make almost 100% sure this guy is on the roster for the next few years. Can't afford to let him go.
  3. The 90's were bad, but do you remember 92? They were pretty dang good that year as well. I agree with the rest of your post though. The 2010's were pretty bad. Lots of terribleness in there. LOL Except 2010. They had a nice team that year. I also feel like it was a wasted chance, a pretty good offense with no one to head the rotation. This was the year they messed up a chance to add Cliff Lee. Huge blunder.
  4. You don't trade starting players off of your team when you are contending unless it brings back someone that helps you win now. If Rosario is traded, it MUST be for someone they can plug into the rotation or the back end of the bullpen. If that takes other prospects to do so, fine. If not, then go ahead and just write his name down on your lineup card for next season. Just silly the amount of people that seem to want to be rid of this guy and would be willing to give him up for not much return. Crazy IMO. Don't worry, your dream minor league outfielders will be here hitting .215 soon enough.
  5. It's more my distrust of the organization and the cheap way in which they have operated forever. I don't trust that they would even use the savings to add talent. They would probably say they needed it to give Ordorizzi his raise. My point is, the Twins have more than enough money hanging around where they don't have to start a Jake Cave or an unproven prospect in left field when they are in contention. Keep Rosario unless he is part of a bigger package for some studly pitching. If the Twins move him for minor league players with the situation this team is in right now, it will just reinforce my belief that they are cheap and miserly.
  6. Give Cave an everyday job and he will get slaughtered. Plus, if you think Rosario's defense was bad, Cave is worse than that. Rosario is also a middle of the order bat, while Cave is most definitely not. I already said I'd be fine with moving on from Rosario if its to go after some pitching talent. However, if you get rid of him and sign the type of guy you would likely get with Rosario's 8 mill, it's not worth it. Those types of starters grade out as a much worse version of Kyle Gibson at best.
  7. I wouldn't feel good, but I am with you on those other guys. I would rather go big or go home. If we are signing guys like this to be our #4 and 5 starters, I would just as soon roll with someone in our system. I have said this all along. I think if you are going to bring in free agents, bring in high end guys. Fill the rest of your holes with your system. In this case, aim for guys that you think have the talent to be #3 or better pitchers whether it is in FA or trade.
  8. He definitely is frustrating to watch hit. The swinging at everything no matter where it is, what the count is, what the sitation, etc gets old. That said, if he is worth NOTHING in a trade like you say he is, then there is no reason to move him. Milk out his last couple years of controllable baseball and let him walk. Giving away someone like him for a lottery pick doesn't sit well with me. Now, if he can be packaged up with prospect to bring in real, high end pitching, then I am all for moving him. I don't move him just for the sake of it though or to make room for guys in our minor leagues until they can prove they can handle the big leagues. Most of these young guys take a couple years in order to start producing. Let's not put ourselves in a hole during a time when we are contending in order to pickup another project prospect.
  9. People are figuring it because we have to. You can't roll into next season with Berrios and that's it. If you feel good just signing those 2, I think you will probably be let down again next season at the end of the year because you will be piecing together a rotation for a majority of the season again. Twins need to find someone to pair with Berrios at the top and probably another guy to eat up innings at the bottom. Whether that's a diamond in the rough trade, a FA, or someone from the organization steps up, they will need to do something.
  10. Ordorizzi and stud FA or trade guy, that's the other 2. I agree with you on Rosario. I think he is a good outfielder. A bit of a stretch where he played poorly there might have altered his stats.
  11. Nothing to get excited about IMO, but a guy that had a billing as a top 35 prospect might be worth a look to see if they can add something to his arsenal and make a guy that can help. If he doesn't show anything? Dump him and nothing hurt. I don't think he is gonna displace someone you really want to keep from your 40-man anyway. Meaning, he might have more potential than a handful of guys that are already taking up spots.
  12. I would all day long. Why wouldn't you? He'a got the chance to be the ACE you need and he's young. Could pair with Berrios for a long time. Lewis still a question mark, he might not every be anything at all. Padres won't trade him but if it were straight up for Lewis, Twins would be foolish not to accept that IMO.
  13. I'd be against it, unless he could be had for a 2nd tier prospect and would be looked upon by the Twins as a back of the rotation starter. He might be used up.
  14. So far, to me, he hasn't shown he can play through injuries at all. Super minor ones as well. Sprained thumb keeps him out for 55 days. Groin strain keeps him out for 17 days. Almost an entire season shut down over a fractured toe. I mean, I understand all of this, but he wants to be Kirby Puckett, then toughen up. Sprained thumb? How about tape it up and get your arse back in there. Fractured toe? Let it heal for 15-20 days and lets go. Groin strain? A week of rest should do it. Like I said, I really like him and hope he can give the team what he has shown he is capable of. I just don't feel there is any reason he is owed extra money over the service time thing in 2018.
  15. I'd just love to see the guy give us a full year on the field. If he could play 150 games, the Twins could finally see what they have in him and make a decision to either pay him, or to use him as trade bait. So far, it is pretty hard for anyone to know exactly what you are going to get from the guy. I still think it would be a mistake to trade him. I just don't think he is worth a ton and the potential he has is much greater than what you might expect to get back in a trade. That said, it is time for the guy to stay on that field and prove he is worth a contract.
  16. I don't agree at all. Buxton has had 2 months of good baseball in his career and the rest of it, he has been one of the worst hitters in the league. To be honest, I am still not sold on his bat. He doesn't have a gripe until he can hit with consistency and also not get simple stupid injuries to keep him off the field. So far, he has been as fragile as a China doll.
  17. IMO, a deal for either Archer or Gray doesn't take any of our top 3 guys. They flat out, just aren't that great. They are Ordorizzi is what they are. #3's. Low end #2's maybe. The best thing about them IMO, is that they are signed to pretty team friendly deals. Why do Twins fans always feel like to get anybody even at this level we have to give up the whole wad of top guys in our system? I don't see it. Problem is this organization has been so risk averse, they have everyone feeling like it takes moving mountains to get anyone of value in a trade or FA.
  18. Starting a playoff game, going 6-7 innings and giving up a run or less. That is an ACE. He's pitched in 2 playoff game so far and not been great. He's also had a couple seasons here now where like stated in the article, not been as good later in the year. Berrios has it in him. He's darn good. I think this article hit on what needs to happen. Change something so that he is just as effective late in the year as the beginning. He's young. I think he will likely improve. Not a harder worker on the team.
  19. $$$$$$ If the money is better, that's the deciding factor I'm sure. Why does everyone think anyone associated with baseball or sports in general always goes to a winning place, city they want, etc. They have a few years to make money, they are going where cash is king.
  20. Well, the balls he hit over the fence were hit about a mile and like was stated earlier, he was towards the top of the league in exit velocity. Hit the ball hard, good things happen. Swing at good pitches, good things happen. Did he get an extra couple HRs from the live ball? Maybe, but it's not something I think would drastically change his stats or the results of what he does.
  21. He shrunk in the postseason for sure, but he wasn't alone in this regard. I saw a much different hitter the second half of the year. His patience at the plate is what makes him good. He had this and showed it right away when he came up from the minors to start his career. The swing and miss is still something he struggles with, but I think that can be corrected as well. We saw what happens when he is able to catch up with those fastballs, he hammers them and becomes one of the most dangerous bats in the game. As for his defense. I will be honest. I do not really care about it. The bat is so good I would work on perfecting that even more with the thought that eventually he moves over to 1B or takes over the DH spot when Cruz retires. If it's me, I DEFINITELY have him as part of my plans for this team going forward.
  22. I'd love him back on a 1-2 year deal at a price that makes sense for the Twins. If they aren't able to get him back, someone that is great defensively with MLB experience would be my choice.
  23. I would surmise it is not the fact that lower prospects wouldn't get it done. I feel as if this information was leaked because the Twins were unwilling to beat the offer accepted even without using Lewis and Kiriloff. They don't tell the truth to their fans over there all the time. Or at the very least, they leave parts of the truth out. They have always made it seem as if the other organization is the villian, "the asking price was too high", "he turned down our offer and wanted too much money", etc. Now, I am not all that mad they didn't make a trade for Stroman. I don't feel he is that great. There have been chances over the years though to add real talent by giving someone up and they haven't done it. Basically, I really won't believe anything from them until there is proof their offer was higher both in terms of trades or FA signing. That's me, I'm sour. Most of it comes from blowing 2006 and 2010. Even though those were a long time ago, it still chaps my hide. LOL
  24. I'm not sure alot of folks actually feel this way. I'm pretty sure there is a good portion of the fanbase that is more than ok with using of few of those guys from the top of your list as long as it brings back real talent. Twins have been the ones trying to trade peanuts for ribeye steaks, at least over the years they have been.(Maybe that's what you meant with your post, sorry) I will give this FO credit, they have done a pretty darn good job so far. But to me, the biggest test is these next couple years. This is the same type of thing Terry Ryan was faced with, with a few of his cores. He declined to do anything significant and it was the start of the 16 game streak of gettiing beat in the postseason. The real question, IMO, is will the ownership allow their FO to break from the Twins mold and do what it takes to build a real contender? Or will they toe the line and continue with the cheap ways and prospect hoarding we have seen for years?
