  1. Read how the process works. They have 10 days once it is offered in order to negotiate with other teams to gauge their market value.
  2. My point is that if they are so much better than guys that are making 4X the money they are, why didn't any other teams approach them? We have read that as many as 5-10 teams are in on all these starters? How come none of them came after our boys that are BETTER as you say than the rest of that bunch? Other GMs and organizations must not know as much as our guys do. I'm sorry I forgot all about that.
  3. They had the choice to sign elsewhere, yes they did. What they didn't have were offers significantly better than what we gave them. If there were that wanted, we'd have had to pay more for them.
  4. Then you are smarter than every GM is baseball. Ordorizi was out there for anyone and everyone to bid on before he accepted our QO. They have 10 days once it is extended. Funny there wasn't anyone out there willing to make him a better offer than that if he is better than those guys?????
  5. There's 5 rotation spots. That is all.
  6. OK, I can be with that. The thing is, who is realistically out there to target? Everybody says they want another Jake Ordorizzi. Really? Because my sights are much higher than that. Has he been good, serviceable? Yes, he has, he's been a pretty darn good 3-4 starter. That said, this team needs more than that. They need THAT and another guy higher up the totem pole. I don't see where that comes from without giving up extreme prospect capital.
  7. Haha. Missing on Cliff Lee was a big one in 2010 too...
  8. Another good post. It isn’t just one thing. It’s a culmination of things over many years that have fans feeling this way. It’s also a new front office that has said they will strike when the irons hot and so far it’s just been the same old song and dance. People have every right to be frustrated and mad at this ownership and front office.
  9. What a fantastic post. This encompasses my feelings almost 100%.
  10. I actually like this move. I have been wishing they'd have signed him a couple other times over his career. Another Vet in the bullpen to help out our young guys. I like it. This guy has done it well for quite a few years. And, like said, if he loses it, he is easy to DFA and change directions.
  11. If you know you aren't going to be able to sign anyone, there shouldn't be time wasted there. Work the trades. Get out in front of it before the rest of the squads pivot their focus and beat you to the punch. Waiting around to make offers both on the trade front and Free Agency has killed them so far this offseason. Everything doesn't have to be a bargain. You don't have to WIN every transaction. When you are in the position the Twins are, you need to identify who it is you want and make sure you get them.
  12. This is such BS it's not funny. I hate this argument, absolutely hate it. Yes, if the offers are the same, then players will pick where they want to go. However, when you are in the position the Twins are, you have to identify EXACTLY who you want and blow them out of the water with a deal. Madbum gets 4/85? Offer him 5/110. He won't turn it down, I will promise you that. It cannot be done all the time. But doing so when you are in this position is more than acceptable. You are paying a guy 4 or 5 years for basically the performance they will give you in year 1 or 2. Don't like doing that? Fine, draft and develop pitching that is able to fill that role. Or "gasp" trade some of the zillion positional player prospects you have in order to balance out your organization. Having piles of good position players doesn't do you any good if you have no pitching to go along with it.
  13. I would feel the exact opposite here. Berrios for the first half of the year was that ACE. He was great, one of the game's best. All he has to figure out is how to sustain it for a full season. He has been tabbed as one heck of a hard worker also, I think between he and the Twins training staff, they can figure this out. Buxton hasn't done anything yet at the plate. He's a great defender, but a China doll when it comes to being durable. I don't put a ton of faith in him. That said, if he does ever hit his potential, watch out.
  14. Honestly, they should have taken the chance last year. They should have said OK Mets, fine, you can have 1 of Lewis, Kiriloff, or Buxton. Now pick a guy in our 5-10 prospect range. That trade would have been accepted almost assuredly. I am not sure why our FO is afraid to do something like this to get in a pitcher of that caliber.
  15. I wouldn't go that far. Trade deadline 2018 they made a lot of trades. Most of those guys are fairly highly ranked in our farm system. Those could turn out to be fine or even great trades. We won't know for another year or two. One thing I will give them credit for it look like(assuming 2018 would be the norm), that when they have an asset they know they won't retain, they are way more willing than Terry Ryan was to dump them and get what they can.
  16. Won't get that out of him. Only will get what we "wont" or "can't" do. As has been said zillions of times on here before, Twins have a pitching problem. There are 2 ways to correct it if you want it to happen quickly, sign or trade. So far it looks as if the FO wants to do neither. Or at least neither involving high end guys. This is a problem if you think we can compete, truly compete next season or the year after. It's my opinion this FO is perfectly happy waiting on their own prospects to develop in order to fill out this pitching staff. In fact, I would bet you see them trade someone away for more pitching prospects before you see them give up prospects for someone that is producing right now.
  17. I like keeping this guy around because of his attitude alone. He knows what it takes to win. His performance? He does well, but not a guy I want in the 8th or 9th most times. That said, his slider is still really tough to square up. Either way, he's worth a roster spot and I could care less that the Twins might have had to give up some money for them. They have cheaped out enough. Pay the man
  18. If this is true, why aren't the Twins working their tails off to get him signed longer term? Why, after making him the QO, didn't they work on getting him locked in for 3-4 more years? If he is truly that kind of pitcher and they were willing to go 5/100 with one of them, then why aren't they looking long term with Jake?
  19. Either way, it probably doesn't matter. If this is what is being reported, that means one of the teams balked at an offer. To me, anything better than a bucket of kentucky fried chicken is a good return for Jake Cave. I'm certain Miami wanted something else in the deal.
  20. You didn't watch last year, did you. Nothing says they can't, other than they didn't last year. They both had their chances and the Yankees toyed with them until they had to give in. Once they did and started grooving pitches, they were in trouble. Hope and prayer gets old.
  21. Then what, exactly is your plan to make this club competitive now? Are you willing to PUNT on this core because they don't have pitching? Do you think it's best to wait around and waste these guys while we wait for our pitching prospects to develop? I understand where you are coming from with the examples you give. I'm not all for signing big name guys when they are older for big money. But what exactly do you propose they do in order to help this team now and the next 1-3 years? I mean, they could trade for top of the rotation pitching, but we all know that will require Lewis or Graterol or both. Twins have never shown the want to move these types of prospects. Basically, they really have never taken a chance. It's always been safe play, focusing on getting in the "mix" with no real eye on actually going for it. The way this team is set up. It is time to spend big either with your dollar bills, or with your prospects. We are all waiting for them to take some risk. My gut tells me though that whether it is Pohlad or the FO, they don't have the guts to actually go for it.
  22. Puke to all of them. If you are going to sign retreads and bargain basement guys, I would rather they just give the job to one of the younger guys in our system that has earned it. No need to waste money on this type of signing when you will get the same production from your system at the league minimum.
  23. Just a waste of time IMO for the Twins to even be worried about trades like this right now. Go after these guys after the dust has setttled. Of course, maybe they were just blown away that someone would even want Jake Cave. Maybe that is the reason for them to even have this discussion. Either way, this kind of low end move is typical and something I feel will have little to no impact to the team. They should be using their time to pull out all the stops to get who they want in Free Agency, or to trade for guys that are actually worth something. This guy here is another #5 starter type.
  24. It's not their "engagement". It is the writers who tweet this stuff that make the rumors. Just once, I would like to see the TC media ask the Twins owners and FO some tough questions. Make them squirm a little bit. The mouthpiece apologetic tone in which they are handled is patronizing to life long fans.
  25. Almost every playoff game your pitching doesn't have much wiggle room. It is nip and tuck all through October. I agree, their bats weren't great, but the pitching just flat out wasn't competitive save for a handful of innings from Berrios and Ordorizi. Even in their starts, there was this feel that the Yankees were just waiting for them to make mistakes and pounce. Eventually it happened when they couldn't execute "pitchers" pitches and had to groove.
