Should the Twins Bring Back Josh Bell for 2027?
rv78 replied to Ray Stuedemann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At $10M he'll be too expensive for what he brings to the table. Jeffers is the key and will be the first sign of what they are going to do. 1)If they somehow resign him, that will mean Tom is actually serious about his "Go Big or Go Home". 2) If they let him walk, then they are finally either committed to rebuilding with the young guys or they will attempt another weak and feeble "Go For It" in 2027 and it will be Tom's 2026 repeat of Go Big and Go Home. -
Kind of sounds like he is in a no win situation. If he plays and does fantastic, is he just trade bait? The article points to that direction. If he doesn't then what happens? He gets demoted back to AAA? It's like the Twins are so loaded at 1st base there isn't room for him. That's a laugh. Show us what you got in a week and then we'll decide. Really? If the chosen one, Lewis, would have been treated the same way, he'd have been gone a long time ago. He got to start at SS, that didn't work, then he got to try 3B, that didn't work, then they move him to 1B, that didn't work. Sabato gets to play 1B over Lewis? Hell must have frozen over.

I think everyone has to remember that Tom thought this team was good enough to compete, and decided to "Go for it". You don't trade your veterans if they only cost $4.475 million when you think you can compete. Yes, it wasn't intelligent to think they could compete, but that's a whole nother story. The only thing more stupid, with that kind of mentality, would have been to rely on Roden/Outman to be better than Larnach, basing that decision on their past production. As for them NOT bringing Larnach back....... don't bet on it. Even at $6 or $7 million he isn't anymore expensive than Bell or Caratini, and Bell will likely be gone, as well as Jeffers.

Twins 3, Angels 0: Connor Prielipp Dominates in Shutout Win
rv78 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just pointing out that Jorge Lopez looked great for half a season that Falvey fell for, which is more than what Mr. Preilipp has accomplished yet. I agree, it looks promising but I'm not as gullible as Falvey.- 46 replies

Don't understand the sympathy for a player, getting paid millions, to get special treatment. Has he announced he is retiring? Moving up to 10th on the Saves list means nothing, especially when I don't know who's 1 through 9, and don't care who they are either. What is important in a lost season is evaluating what you have for the future as much as possible. The correct move would be to bring someone up from the Minors to use in his spot for that very reason.

For 2027, Twins Have a Gaping Hole Behind Home Plate
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, it's the Twins way to settle for less than what they really need, and we as Twins fans should expect nothing more knowing the incompetants are in charge.- 67 replies

Weren't you listening to Tom? They chose a direction and it was to compete. The current team is what they thought it would take. They even added at the trade deadline. This is what you get when you are incompetant at running a team. Adding has-beens, DFA's and just more average players like (Bell, Caratini, Clemens, Gray, Roden, Jackson, Kreidler, Outman, Arcia, Paredes, Nance, Topa, Orze, Lawrence, Go, Kremer) from other teams won't make you a contender. Having your young core (Lewis, Lee, Martin, Matthews, Prielipp, Morris) be average at best won't get it done. Keaschall is the only consistant hitter in the lineup. Buxton and Jeffers are only in the lineup half the time, Bradley has been the only starting pitcher that gives any consistant chance of a win when any of them take the mound. Ryan collapsed, Ober is a coin flip. SWR is gone. With all of the talk of Jeffers, Ryan, Larnach leaving only means more reliance on the average guys to make improvements to their game, which probably isn't there or we would have seen it by now. Who's going to take the next step and even get close to becoming an All-Star? Because that is what it is going to take. 95% of the roster being average gets you another season like we have now, and I don't see the Owners or the Front Office willing to do what it really takes to take this team to the level it needs to be to really be competive. Watching another failed season only proves to me they don't know what they are doing, or they do and just don't care as long as the fans keep supporting their failed product on the field. Sorry, rant over!

The Twins way = move him around on the field so he doesn't get comfortable or good playing anywhere. The Right way = Put him in ONE spot and LEAVE him there. Duh! Shouldn't the minors be the place to find the best position for a player? This shouldn't be a problem in the majors. By the way boys, tuck your shirts in, you look like the way you are playing, Sloppy.

I've come to the conclusion that not only do they need each other but deserve each other. The Twins will never win anything with Buxton on the roster. He isn't available when he is needed and Buxton is loyal because they put-up with him not being there. It a "lose - lose" situation that both the Twins and Buxton have not only become accustomed to, but seem to want. And if that seems like nonsense, then why does Buxton want to stay with a team that doesn't commit to winning and why do the Twins put up with someone that can't play a full season and every year they have to have another player on their roster to cover for his abscence?
-
Outside of Ryan and Buxton, when healthy, there isn't anyone that is a real difference maker. When they are hurt, which is every year, no one else can carry this team. It seems almost every AAA player that gets called up anymore fizzles after a hot start or can't hit from day 1. Weaknesses in each player are exposed and exploited. Are the scouts that bad at evaluating talent or are the Twins that poor at developing them into major league players. Adding pieces from the scrap heap, ala Terry Ryan/Derek Falvey will never work. Never has. The Twins are proof of that. Like every year at this time and through every off-season we say the same thing. Change is needed. We all see it, and they don't. It has to start from the top. The Owners need to sell. Until then, we will be back again, next year, at this time, and discussions will not change, because the change that is needed, didn't happen.

The Twins Are Giving Their All, But It's Not Enough
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The collapse did happen. Not this year or last year, but after 2019. The Twins just haven't done anything since then, outside of 2023 when they finished first in the easiest division in baseball. That alone should tell you, 2023 wasn't that impressive. And even in 2019 they got wiped out in the 1st round of the playoffs. Falvey's build a perennial contender or Tom's go big or go home are lies. They are/were incompetant. Owners like the Pohlads are interested in one thing, make money. Sell the hype. Winning comes second. Unless the club ever gets sold to someone who WANTS to win, I have convinced myself I will never experience the thrill of 1987 or 1991 again. My grandkids are not Twins fans. Not because of me not trying, but because there is nothing exciting or interesting about a team that doesn't really try. -
You left out the person ultimately responsible.... Derek Falvey. Yes, Pohlad and Zoll followed in his footsteps without getting out of the manure. Kremer, Minter, Hoffman are NOT going big, so you can take Tom's theory of "going big or go home" as an indication of him not knowing what qualifies as "going big". It was, an attempt to try to make it look like they were serious about contending. All it proved to me, was that they weren't.

Blaming Keaschall isn't the answer. Blame the centerfielder who can't stay on the field. The Twins have had a problem in centerfield ever since they handed it to Buxton. I said it years ago when they were rostering a fulltime backup like MAT. Then the smartest man in the room brings in Outman to fill that role. Compounding the problem with another player that is washed up, can't hit, or can't field the position, is what losers do. The problem won't go away until Buxton is gone and they hand it to someone else. I totally agree with friedbrycenbeans. This organization is great at doing things half-ass. The perfect move they can make now is, callup Jenkins and Rodriguez as September callups, watch both guys rake it all month long, and miss the playoffs by 1 game.
-
Looked to me like Pohlad was trying to make it look like he was adding for the sake of winning, but in all reality, when you look at what he added, it was just more pretending to be a contender. Kremer isn't going to be an improvement over anyone that was already starting, his ERA proves that. Minter and Hoffman are additions that won't affect a game UNLESS the Twins have a lead going into the final innnings and they are available to pitch, which won't be every game, such is the life of a reliever. The overall effects of adding these 3 pitchers will be minimal and it won't be enough to matter. Grade D.

If we were running this team, the Twins would be in 1st place 20 games over .500. Gray wouldn't even be on the roster, as well as about 10-15 other guys for sure. When it gets right down to it, is there anything that this organization does anymore that makes any sense? Just like the love they showed for a player like Mickey Gasper, who providing nothing, Gray has defensive versatility that they don't need and a worthless bat to go along with it. So, naturally he gets precedent over all the other options everyone else has listed here. The #1 problem this organization has had over the past 10-12 years is that Buxton can't be relied upon to be their centerfielder and in those 10-12 years they haven't had anyone worthwhile to take his place.

Did the Carlos Correa deal determine your opinion of tying too much money up into 1 player? It seriously depends on the player. Correa wasn't it. He was a good defender but pretty much an average hitter. His contract with the Twins was a huge OVER-pay. Joe Ryan is much better than average and worthy of big dollars much more than Correa was.

And the reason why "we aren't there" yet is because the last 10 years when the Twins were buyers Falvey did a poor job bringing in difference makers, and when the Twins were sellers, like last year, the return is so far away that we just extended the push strategy another year or two down the road. No one will remember if the Brewers drew 3 million fans and the Twins drew 1 million. (Except for the Pohlads and they don't seem to care). They will remember if/when the Brewers win a Championship. See the difference?
