  1. Honestly, I have no problems at all with Adrianza being on the roster as a backup infielder. Good glove and he's hit much better than advertised.. My bigger concern at this point is improving the pitching staff.
  2. I also like the idea of signing Soria. His injury history is a bit of a worry, but if he's healthy and in shape he can also be a valuable arm in the bullpen.
  3. Count me as one of those who don't think Kepler has reached his potential yet. And with that in mind, I don't think what we'd get for him in a trade would be nearly enough to satisfy the team or the fans. Imagine another Aaron Hicks type trade. Ugh ... no thanks. Let's keep him for now.
  4. I'll be curious to see how Stewart "develops" in the next year or so. I thought Ted's use of stats to show how much more effective he was when he didn't start a game was an eyebrow raiser. Hmm ... maybe the bullpen MAY be his best landing spot.
  5. Yeah, I can relate to the frustration. A 1 year deal certainly doesn't give the team much to plan with. But I see this more of a gap year move, waiting to see if Gordon can get it together by 2020.
  6. Hopefully, Castro comes back and is healthy and can at least hit his weight. Not sure where this will leave Garver in the team's plans. The concussion issue certainly is a big concern. I like Astudillo, but more as a utility guy rather than someone who can be a reliable starter. Then again, why not give him a chance too? Or maybe we need to look beyond Plan B and opt for a Plan C or D.
  7. Your assessment of Schoop is probably accurate, And as much as I was happy to see Dozier get traded to another team, having him back for another year wouldn't be the worst scenario. As you noted, he's most likely put up better numbers than Schoop and most of the players are already familiar with his style of play. So many potential second base targets this year, I'm not sure what the best move would be?
  8. Seth, let us know if you hear anything about Perlozzo. It seems to me (faulty memory or my own advancing years?) that he has been with the Twins forever!
  9. I have high hopes but low expectations for the Twins in 2019. Unless they can sign a very good starting pitcher and/or rebuild the bullpen into something dominant, I just don't see them contending.
  10. I also think Schoop is an intriguing "bounce back" candidate to fill our second base vacancy, and one with some power too. I also think Matt Bush could be a good bullpen addition, and even a healthy Shelby Miller might be someone to look at. But those guys the White Sox are getting rid of ... not that interested.
  11. Zero interest in any trade that involves Cano. He's an over-the-hill and overrated "all star," and now one with questionable baggage. I hope the Twins aren't even thinking about trades like that, even if it brings us another phenom closer.
  12. I think Bernier would probably make a good coach too. Something about bouncing around the minor leagues for most of your adult life --- with the occasional big league promotion --- gives a player a special set of skills.
  13. You took the words right out of my mouth! But at least we have Astudillo for mop-up duty.
  14. Gotta defend Mickey! Well sure, Hatcher was a bit of a goofball, but a talented one. Maybe not gold glove caliber in the outfield, but that guy could always hit. Plus, he was a vital piece for the Dodgers the following year in 1988, and his homers helped them win the World Series.
  15. You are right; the Rays do indeed have a unique way of handling their team and juggling their roster. Somehow they ended up winning 90 games last year with an odd assortment of players. Of course Snell shined on the mound, but guys like Cron had very good years also. And yeah, getting rid of Dickerson was another puzzling move the previous off-season, coming off a strong year, and then to see him have an arguably even better year with the Pirates. But back to Cron ... I don't know. I also have these horrible Logan Morrison jitters that won't go away.
  16. I think, more than any other position on a team, pitchers are the most prone to be unpredictable in regards to their performance. So many things can go amiss, so it's always a gamble. That's one reason I hate the idea of signing any pitcher, starter or reliever, to a lengthy contract. As far as Reed goes, I just shrug my shoulders and think of an appropriate song lyric to quote.
  17. Yeah, like most everyone else that's posted, I endorse the move too. And having more minor league depth at third base seems like a good idea.
  18. Seems like the most glaring need is a second base. Murphy has a good bat, but from everything that I've read about him, he's pretty much a statue playing on the field. I know many on this board want a potent bat, but I'd really like a good glove at that position, at least for another year or two. So, we do keep Polanco at short or move him to second? And then do we get a slick fielder like Iglesias to play short, or keep Polanco there and get a new second baseman? i don't want Dozier back again, but that wouldn't be the worst scenario. I can't imagine he's going to get many lucrative offers in free agency.
  19. Wow, just seeing the name of Luke Hughes again shook me awake. Short but interesting article. Thanks for posting that, Seth! Hughes mentioned that he first got the word that he was being called up to the Twins by his AAA manager, Tom Nieto. Yet another name that brought back many memories!
  20. I realize this subject has been covered occasionally in other threads, but I thought it might be handy to put all of these infield questions in one place. I can't remember an off-season when the Twins had so many question marks about their infield for the coming year. Polanco is a given, but will he stay at shortstop or will the team try him at second? Do we want Sano starting at third base? And what about first base? Is Austin the answer there? The biggest hole seems to be at second base. I have doubts that Nick Gordon is ready for that job, so what does the team do? I read on the SI website, in a column by Ben Reiter, that Josh Harrison might be a good free agent option for the Twins. I'd always considered Harrison more of an outfielder, but he CAN play various infield positions too. What do you think? Is a trade likely? Will be dip into the free agent pool to solidify the infield? What awaits us next year?
  21. Randy César looks like an interesting pick. Still young and shows some power, albeit with some ugly strikeout numbers. Nevertheless, I always look forward to seeing these new players in the organization and hope for the best.
  22. And whatever happened to Jepsen? Actually, he was with the Texas Rangers in spring training last year and made the club, only to get released again in May. Not sure if he played anywhere after that or not?
  23. And thank YOU for writing the report, Steve. Very informative to read about what the Twins' prospects did in the AFL this year.
  24. Yeah, I would think/hope that Kiriloff and Lewis are pretty much untouchable trade pieces at this point. As nice as it would be to get a player like Goldschmidt, I hope the Twins don't consider trading their top prospects for him.
  25. Long-time Twin? He was more of a "blink and you missed him Twin" !!!
