    You're not going to find me defending Falvey. I believe he was a bottom 5 GM in baseball who made moves which were incomprehensible to me on a regular basis. Personally, I think Falvey repeated his pattern of trying to sign and trade players with +1 surplus value (Larnach-like) and found he was stuck with players the Twins honestly didn't want on the roster time and time again as a result. Wasted money. Wasted talent.

    Smith seems like he's got the zone figured out much better, but A ball pitchers seem to have almost zero control so it seems like getting a feel for the zone might be more difficult. Actually, it feels like the level of control and polish in all the levels is pretty trash over the past decade. High velo throwers unable to place their pitches, but trying to beat hitters by getting the balls past the plate faster than the hitter can read it seems to be the plan. Back to Smith. Hopefully he can keep it up. The power seems real enough, and I like seeing his K rate dropping over time. I suspect some regression as the plate appearances climb, but he'll start off in AA next year if he keeps it up!

    Amazes me how heavy baseball players have gotten in the past decade. Anything over 210 at 6'2" is wasted weight for any baseball player. It's like... this is your career. Put the bucket of ice cream back in the freezer.

    Honestly... what would Prielipp's ERA be without the relievers allowing inherited runners to score? I feel like I've seen it time and time again where Shelton lets Prielipp pitch to a batter or two, then pulls him mid inning and the bullpen allows all the inherited runners to score. There is no "September" competitive stretch. The Twins are DONE. D. O. N. E. They own a 5.6% chance statistically, but are EIGHT games under .500 and have 4 teams ahead of them in the chase for the last Wild Card. In any case, Prielipp should keep pitching in the rotation and gaining experience. There's no harm if he gets blown up because the Twins are cooked. Berrios came up in 2016 and pitched to a 7.27 ERA from 8/1+. Prielipp is a legit rotation arm getting killed by LOB. I'd move Kremer to the 'pen.

    I think there was a much more plausible path for Roden at the deadline last year, especially for this year. I don't think anybody expected Larnach to return or some of the other questionable roster moves the Twins have made over the offseason and into this one. Plus Roden was the toss in. As a sweetener, and given the assumption Larnach wouldn't return, Roden should have been able to cover CF as a lefty and provide some depth insurance. Rojas was the big get.

    Its in reference to another thread where somebody was claiming Buxton came off the IL because Tom Pohlad wanted him on the active roster for more fan revenue/interest. I'm totally going to be rolling with Tom Pohlad making every injury decision on the Twins for a while because I'm highly entertained by such a ridiculous (but well supported) comment.

    Buxton begged Tom Pohlad to let him recover for a couple weeks on the IL, but Pohlad said no. What can you do? It was a big fight when Pohlad decided Buxton had to be reactivated before he was ready a couple weeks ago.

    I would have much preferred Buxton to the IL and Roden optioned to call up Rodriguez, but at least the Twins have somebody who can potentially catch balls in center field now. Jenkins has obliterated RHP, but there's a massive drop off against LHP with a much lower BB and higher K rate. Emma, on the other hand, has hit LHP almost as well as RHP with a pretty flat K:BB rate. Probably not enough to warrant optioning Martin and playing Emma vs. LHP, though. Martin has always hit lefties well.

    Tinney was 0/11 in stolen base prevention. He's now 3/17 meaning he's starting to more reliably showcase the arm over the past couple games. Really nice to see. Seems like he's also adjusting to the poor quality of location on pitches coming his way in A-ball as he's reducing the K rate and seeing the hits start coming. Sounds like the umpire was on a power trip ejecting Houston. Emma should definitely be called up and Roden sent down.

    I think Andrew Morris might represent an interesting comment in a quick interview of Justin Verlander a few weeks ago talking about how the game has changed in regard to pitch selection. It used to be batters told pitchers what was a good or bad pitch. If stuff was getting smoked, the pitch doesn't work and the pitcher would change it or stop using it. Now, analysts tell pitchers what a good or bad pitch is. (PitchingBot, Stuff+). Even if stuff keeps getting crushed, the analysts will look at the pitch profile and say it's a good pitch based on movement and velo.

    I think a lot of the change from 1st to 2nd is sleeve color, but there is a minor shift.

    Max Kepler for Walker Jenkins, sure. 60 grade raw power, very good contact rates, below average K rates, good plate discipline, just barely good enough speed to cover CF, great defensive instincts, solid arm, left handed batter. That makes a ton of sense. For Emma, I don't see it. Emma has elite raw power, and terrible contact rates. Kepler's career K rate is only 18.7%.

    I have it on good authority Luke Keaschall has a terrible attitude and flips people's dinner plates with their food still on it and pees in their Cheerios if people leave their cereal unattended. He also flicks off baristas the entire time they're making his sugar free unicorn, sparklebunny lattes just so they know how much he hates everything. For sure he even texts other players' parents made up negative stuff... I feel like that's enough made up completely irrelevant intangible stuff now. 1B/DH is almost interchangeable in terms of skill set needed because it's assumed MLB players can catch baseballs. Luke Keaschall can't catch baseballs. A first baseman really needs to be able to catch baseballs.

    LOL, I just thought of old baseball video games when you take a player and put them out of position. Like put a pitcher in at 2B. It's like watching Luke Keaschall play in real life.

    Must be a desperate Twins fan thing to consider this year's deadline a "radically different deadline approach." The Twins traded one prospect at the back of their top 10 and took on like $5MM in salary. The team added a near DFA candidate pitcher and a couple good relievers. I can't imagine the superlatives if the Twins actually made a big trade at the deadline some day. "Twins exploded the entire history of the game by trading for a major asset. Never in the history of sports has a team ever traded a top 5 prospect for a middle rotation starter. The Twins are all in, ALLLLLLLL in and have sold the farm, they're all in, it's the end of the universe <#5 prospect> was going to win the next 12 MVPs in a row."

    Luke Keaschall is the worst fielding MLB player I've ever seen in my entire life. It's not 1 play. It's more like 1 play every single game. No matter what position he plays. His outfield play projects at -50 runs... I'm serious -50 runs or -5 WAR over a full season.

    Many MLB players disagree with the expert opinion you're presenting from your La-Z-Boy. Then again, I'm sure you researched your opinion thoroughly before your presented it as fact.

    I think Larnach should have been done in a Twins uniform last year. He was redundant, especially after adding Bell. With this front office? It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he was back again next year.

    Keaschall isn't filling out the lineup card or making the decision to play CF. That's Shelton. If Walker Jenkins came up, Shelton could still choose to play Josh Bell in CF. Assuming Walker Jenkins was called up, he's expected to be a capable center fielder based on instincts, not speed. He's not expected to be a great center fielder, and most scouts think he's a better fit for right field. Think more early Max Kepler, less early Byron Buxton. If the Twins were highly aggressive, and they were to have promoted Jenkins as soon as he had 10 games under him where he was actually looking like he was ready (started 7/28), I think Jenkins' number could have been brought to the Twins for the Orioles home stand before the Field of Dreams game. The Twins are 6-10 since then. The Twins would have probably needed to go 10-6 to remain in the playoff picture. Is Jenkins worth 4 wins on his own in that two weeks? No way.

    Center field is the easiest outfield position to play. It's the most demanding from a physical skill set, but it's the easiest to play. Least positional awareness needed, least ball tracking or predicting skills needed. It's basically just run to where it looks like the ball is going right off the bat, open and close the glove at the right time. Corner outfield balls don't fly straight, they hook and slice like crazy golf shots. 50% of the time, you're running directly at a wall.

    Prielipp gets f'd again by the bullpen. I think his ERA would be like 4.00 if it wasn't for the bullpen seemingly always allowing every inherited base runner to score when they come in to relieve him.

    Teams rebuilt before they went to the World Series. I've done this before. Nobody GAF about deadline trash like middle relievers or relievers on expiring contracts. Jhoan Duran and Carlos Correa were the only two assets moved with cachet. That's it. The rest (including middle reliever Louie Varland were meh) Does the entire rebuild have to happen at the deadline? No. But rebuilds are almost always in the near past for non-elite market payroll teams who make it deep into the playoffs. Diamondbacks. Rangers. Royals, Blue Jays, Astros, Braves. In the case of the Astros, they literally build the tank/rebuild model starting in 2010. It's worked pretty well for them...

    He wouldn't have needed to wait so long if he wasn't an absolute moron who refused to learn his lesson about using his thumb as a braking mechanism every time he slides into a base. If there's space on the roster, sure, Emma should be called up so the Twins can confirm his game will play at the MLB level or if the K rate will approach or exceed 50%. I expect the latter, but I think Emma's either an All Star caliber player (early Gallo) or a bust (later Gallo). I don't think there's much in between.
