    1000% Yes. Because the rookies and young guys have a chance of being ABOVE average someday. Average doesn’t mean anything. Nobody cares about average. It’s totally and completely irrelevant, even in provincial Minnesota where the average-ish Twins are 12th of 15 in AL attendance. And that’s what you’ll always be if you make it a worthy goal.

    Which veterans, who’ve had multiple chances to establish themselves as valuable members of a good team…and haven’t, have earned a job in ‘27? This is the first question to ask.

    Getting a comp pick in the mid-high 30’s is not even close to acceptable compensation for Jeffers, especially given the decisions (and lack thereof) that lead us to this spot.

    Look around and you can see the signs of a team, manager and front office that are trying their best to push all chips into the middle of the table. It started, of course, with the trade deadline, which was one of Minnesota's most aggressive in memory. My, god. Honestly…that’s laughable. A rental Loogy, a decent setup guy and a depth starter, who you MIGHT use as a reliever in the post season, if you used him at all…this is the DEFINITION of doing as little as possible in the hope you hang around in a very poor league. The fact that it’s more than they’ve done in the past doesn’t make it even close to aggressive. Now, we’re giving credit for very little, because it’s better than nothing. Committing to a rebuild and completing a fire sale would be aggressive. Trading top MLB-ready prospects, rather than 19-20 year old lottery tickets, in exchange for actual needle-moving controllable (or even not controllable) talent would be aggressive. They carefully, willfully, managed to do the opposite of both those things. They took a group with a low ceiling, and raised the floor two inches. Look, I’m optimistic on a lot of the young talent and near-ready prospects. I think Shelton has the group in the right spot in terms of their effort. But, for anyone that pays attention, to look at the org management decisions in the past 12 months and say they like what they see…or that they’ve “pushed all their chips onto the table”??…mind boggling.

    I’m not buying the “collapse” narrative. You really don’t collapse from 500, IMO. For collapse to fit, first you have to be good. Here’s another way to look at it…the Twins are 36-35 since June 13 after a bad start. Bottom line, it was a team that never at any point in time reached the point of relevance in the context of the league. Only in Pohladland…where being mathematically eliminated from the 3rd wildcard and the ALC not until the last week of the season is seen as something worth celebrating, if not an actual goal.

    I’m trying to be objective regarding a guy that has been saying the above for the last 10+ weeks and has pretty much proven that he can’t perform. We’re fine calling out Kriedler when he OPS’s 600 for two months, but we can’t call out the guy they’ll plunk into the 2 hole? Why? Because it’s Buxton?

    Like he’s been powering through the pain in his last 2 months? Hurting the team? That’s where management comes and says no.

    Right. Who will ever forget that bloop to right in one of his 7 postseason PA’s over his 12 year career. Unforgettable. It’s hard to find a player that’s meant more to his org in that time.

    I get the sense Buxton makes the rules. Or…Twins management is more clueless and pathetic than we think. One of these for sure. Maybe both.

    I can only assume the Dodgers have very much enjoyed the 30 innings they’ve got out of Kopech since unloading Vargas to get him back in 2024.

    Young with 3 more K’s and his 33rd error of the season to open the flood gates for the improbable comeback against The Muscle. He seems like such a low-probability…albeit high upside…prospect. I hope he turns it around next season. It’s not the end of the world having to repeat A- as a 20 yo. And it seems obvious that’s what will happen. In the meantime, ranked way too high in our rankings, IMO.

    Apples and oranges. 30 year old MLB pitchers are infinitely better at holding runners than inexperienced minor league pitchers. All kinds of minor league catchers have “bad” CS numbers. Also, there is less steeling in the majors as the games aren’t developmental and outs are valued much much more than one base. Yes, he’ll need to improve. But the numbers/impact don’t necessarily translate.

    Pohlad needs to do one more thing…the most important thing. He needs to let the GM do his job. The job is to build a strong team. Not sell tickets for this year’s campaign, or next year’s or any years. The marketing team or short term cash flow can’t be the tail wagging the dog. But, it has been and continues to be.

    No stars. (I’m not going to call a guy averaging less than 3 bWAR a season a star.) And, if you want to call Buxton a star, that’s still 15 years ago. Any way you look at it, we’re DUE.

    They don’t want to do ANYTHING “truly”. Say what we will about Falvey, he had (finally) made a plan…and got fired for it. As long as the Pohlads are in control, I’m afraid it’s forever all about the illusion of ‘competing’ in a horrible-to-mediocre (depending on the year) division in a league where 40% of teams now make the postseason. Anything more will be random based on the possibility of 3 or 4 real stars coming through. Before they leave.

    No. The Twins have the 3rd FEWEST runners left on in the AL.

    I’m buying on the futures of Bradley, Abel, Matthews, and Prielipp. If you have to count on some younger-type guys that are “ready” but haven’t really established themselves yet, I think you could do a lot worse than those 4. Who knows? I do think there’s realistic, not imaginary, upside with these guys.

    They were 8 games under 500 mid June, and made a mini-run to get to one game under at the break. Now they’re 6 games under. I don’t think that’s a collapse, it’s just being consistently not that good. The record with Buxton playing is also under 500…so…just not that good any way you try to slice it. And we added very little at the deadline…no needle movers…so, you just spin. Again.
