  1. Even in this dream, Ryan would need to WANT to sign the “fair” offer. He has no incentive to do so other than assuming the Twins offer wouldn’t be topped. And he’d also need to WANT to remain with the Twins. There are other ways the Pohlads can prove they’re trying. The easy on is to move on from the glut of veterans on a poor team and capitalize on what assets you have to start over.
  2. And even at that he might wait it out…provided he remains healthy and effective. Accepting almost anything from the Twins would be a bet against his health over the next 1.5 seasons.
  3. There’s zero chance the Twins will make an offer that convinces Ryan to forego free agency. Less than zero. There no reason for Ryan to take even a $1 discount from what the Yankees, or Dodgers, or Mets, or Cubs, etc. would offer him in free agency. Not to mention, the chance to pitch for a championship contender. An historic offer (for the Twins) isn’t going to make it happen. MAYBE if he sustains a significant injury. But that’s nothing to hope for.
  4. It was odd before the season started. The true tell will be what happens at the trade deadline and immediately after. There should be zero buying of middling and old veterans. Zero. If we trade a prospect it should be for major-league ready young players and/or for other prospects that positionally balance the organization’s prospect pool (i.e., more infielders or starting pitching for outfielders)
  5. Yes. Zero reason for him to not be getting a taste. Look who he’s taking innings from: nobody.
  6. Not really. It’s the ballpark. They had an OPS+ of 94 heading into the series. Solidly below average, although a handful of teams are worse.
  7. And his first K. He got it all covered in one inning. 2 runs allowed would have been golden in the 9th yesterday.
  8. Apparently Shelty waiting for that elusive no-leverage situation. 7 run lead yesterday didn’t get it done. Maybe a 5-7 run deficit will.
  9. Goodman might get 2 more at-bats. Maybe SportsCenter WILL lead off with this game!
  10. And yet, oddly, they never finish first.
  11. Just watch the beginning of Sports Center tonight, they’re sure to lead off with this pressure packed nail-biter.
  12. It’ll take a double to score him right now.
  13. Nice job by Mr. Rogers. 3 runs through 6 innings of a Paredes start, only 2 outs into the bullpen is as good as can reasonably be expected, I think.
  14. Tough pitch to hit, Royce, let alone pull.
  15. Rockies hitters amazed at how the ball flys out of Target Field.
  16. To be fair, he probably knew there was a good chance he’d swing and miss at the next pitch.
  17. Would like to have seen a better batter there.
  18. I’ll say this about Young…the org is challenging him. Plays almost every day, which is a luxury other pretty decent prospect like Acuna and Chourio aren’t getting at Fort Myers. Plays a ton at SS. All in the face of immense struggles offensively and defensively. He could easily be in the FCL right now presumably experiencing more success and nobody would blink an eye. He’s 19. FWIW, Agbayani looked light years ahead of Young in every aspect but power, before he got hurt.
  19. Let’s hope so. Sell, sell, sell. I love Ryan, and Buxton’s hitting better than he ever has. Everyone and anyone would want the bat right now…and the contract is now attractive, and the defense is still at least average at a premium position. These are the guys that will bring the return you’re looking for. Buxton, I can squint and see as a part of the next actually competitive group if this next wave proves good. But I have to squint…(can’t ignore the real chance of decline and/or injuries around the corner). Ryan is not extending/signing with the Twins. For these reasons, I’d be OK with those two going. (Obviously moot in Buxton’s case if he doesn’t want to go.) Incremental moves aren’t going to move the future needle much…but you still have to make them to make room for the impending wave, and to improve the balance of the roster. Operating the same old way and expecting anything other than the same old results…at best, mediocrity…is insane, dumb, sad, hopeless, futile…pick your adjective. Way past time to break the pattern, even if it means first taking a step backward.
  20. Mustta been a day game after a night game…or a day game after a day game…or a night game having come in off the road…or a get-away game. Joe was resting.
  21. Yep! Way more on the line in that Cleveland series…so, I’ll go with that. Not just the big Gaetti error, etc…but all the zeros put up by the Twins after going up by 10.
