    30% K rate is overmatched? What would you call Quentin Young then,…6 months younger than Tait and in low-A ball? I’m guessing you wouldn’t have him in your top 20?

    Who in their right mind was concerned about Tait? A ton of time still to improve offensively and behind the plate. 19 in high-A…and it hasn’t been like he’s overmatched. The power shows and the K’s not out of control, either. What were we expecting? We got him and Mick Abel for Jhoan Duran, not straight-up for Mariano Rivera.

    IMO…and at this particular point in time…Jenkins/Lackey, then Culpepper not that far behind. Then, off in the distance, is a small pack, lead by someone that isn’t Emmanuel Rodriguez.

    Plus arm (even for a catcher). I don’t think they’ll be in a hurry to move him off until he proves he doesn’t have the receiving skills. Wouldn’t be surprised if the herd is thinned a bit at the deadline…one of Oliver, Diaw, Jimenez, Tait… IF they consider him a catcher, I don’t see this as a Sabato comp at all. The only chance Sabato ever had was to hit spectacularly. Even as he is, If Sabato was an average-ish defensive catcher, instead of a poor first-baseman, he’d be a very legit prospect right now…probably with at least one shot in the majors by now.

    That’s probably the backup plan. They’ll give him a chance at catcher with that arm. Catchers (that hit) are worth more…including in trades. But, we’ll see.

    I take Sprock’s hitting results at Fort Myers with a few grains of salt. As a well-regarded college bat, and just short of age 22, he WOULD be at Cedar Rapids at least by now, if he weren’t trying to learn how to play catcher. It’s not that I doubt the bat…or the acknowledgment for his performance…it’s just a unique situation where he’s hitting below his level while he works with instructors in Fort Myers to see if he can learn the craft.

    Venezuelan. International free agent signing. Not sure, but he may have been signed a year after his “class” first became eligible.

    Or…the Twins way: he rides pine and the Twins play short-handed the last two series, he plays in the AS Game, and DH’s after the break. You’re flying in the face of the odds with your common sense.

    Yeah…I’d like to think Jeffers would have been there, and Clemens should be there.

    Wichita 5-28 in their last 33 games. 7 games clear of the next worse team in the league. The hitting has been bad, the pitching worse…and with the oldest pitchers in the league. They say winning doesn’t matter in the minors, but this is embarrassing.

    Worse case scenario…they play 70-ish games next year? Development-wise, I’d take 50 games of MLB this year, and 60 next year over another 1.5 seasons of AAA. He isn’t going to make the club worse. And need to do what they can to thin the veteran position-player hurd at the deadline…even if they end up doing a little buying for the bullpen. Having said that, right now I’d be somewhat happy if he plays 110 games PERIOD, over the next 15 months.

    Yeah. It’s contract brewed now…so I don’t know that the exact original Stroh’s breweries are still working or involved.

    10th in WHIP, 18th in ERA+, 7th in FIP. Bugaboo is HR and track record of wearing down.

    Not exactly clean, but was putting the changeup in good spots. Nice to see.

    He does have a track record of wearing down. Still, overall, I thing contenders will line up for him at the deadline or the offseason, if the Twins make him available.

    That’s how you need to pitch Altuve at this point in his career in any tough situation with Alvarez behind him…just throw the ball over the plate and take your chances. Among the things that went wrong in the 4th, walking Altuve is right at the top of the list.

    Tonight is the 33rd game of 87 that Buxton has not appeared in CF. 38% of games. It makes the defense that much worse as it forces Kriedler to CF and makes the infield worse as well. His availability to play the position continues to be a problem.
