  1. The decision to put Santana back out there in 7th makes a lot more sense in retrospect.
  2. I honestly can't remember a worse bullpen performance. It's not often you see three relievers each give up 3 or more runs in the same inning.
  3. Now down 5 and still not out of the inning, so a rally looks like a long shot at this point
  4. This is far worse than what I thought the worst case scenario for the bullpen would be coming into the game. What's left of the bullpen couldn't even cover an inning in a game with a 6 run lead.
  5. It's going to suck if rain forces Breslow out of the game. All we have left then are the AAAA pitchers Wheeler and Rucinski (or maybe Belisle who threw 30 pitches yesterday).
  6. Santana's been pretty good today even though he doesn't seem as sharp as a lot his recent games. I'm curious to see if Wheeler gets a shot in the 7th.
  7. I have no idea why wanting to make a roster move to replace the backup catcher would ever be considered as equivalent to wanting to remove Falvey and Levine.
  8. For me it comes down to the question of who give the Twins a better chance to win games, Garver or Gimenez? I think the answer is Garver.
  9. It really sucks that four of the Twins top relievers in AAA/AA aren't options due to injury. Being able to call up one or two of Chargois, Reed, Burdi, or Jay would be nice.
  10. If I added right the Twins have thrown 268 pitches today.
  11. I guess that's where I differ, I want to see the Twins replace a poorly performing vet with a guy from AAA who is playing well (once the vet has been given a reasonable opportunity).
  12. Too many calls that couldn't have been reversed either way have gone against the Twins.
  13. If the Twins are afraid to promote a AAA player who is having success over a MLB player who is not would anyone ever get promoted without an injury forcing the issue?
  14. I see no reason why Garver shouldn't replace Gimenez. Garver's bat is clearly superior to Gimenez and from what I've read his defense isn't bad either. There is no argument for Garver being too young (he's 26) or that he needs to play every day (he's only played 24 out of 42 games at Rochester while splitting time with Murphy). Garver has the added benefit of being a potential pitch hitting bat off the bench which is something Gimenez doesn't provide.
  15. Starting with the 2012 draft the Twins have taken 5 college relievers in the 1st or 2nd round. Now 4 of them (Burdi, Bard, Melotakis, and Chargois) have had major injuries. The pattern doesn't look good for Tyler Jay.
  16. The Twins bullpen can't catch a break. The front office refuses to add help through free agency and our most attractive minor league options keep getting hurt.
  17. It seems like Wright is the guy.I hope he is the rare Twins pitching prospect that moves fast through the minor leagues. It would be great to have Berrios, Wright, Gonsalves, Romero, and Mejia as major league starters for the 2019 season.
  18. The point I was trying to make is that there are a number of bullpen arms in AAA/AA that we need to start trying out at the major league level. Obviously there will be guys who aren't successful (at least in their initial stint with the Twins), but we'll never know until we drop dead weight guys like Haley and Wilk and start giving the young guys a chance.
  19. Your rankings point out that something needs to happen with the bullpen. I'm beginning to wonder how long we'll have to wait before the Twins start making changes. The Twins need to move on from Haley and Wilk and to a lesser extent Belisle. It really seems like there are better options in the minors that should to be given a shot with the big league club. Right now at AAA Busenitz and Hildenberger look like they're pitching well and are ready. I'd guess Chargois and Reed would also be due a promotion except they've been on the DL. At AA there are a number of big arms that can't be far from moving up (to AAA or the majors) that include Burdi, Melotakis, Rosario, and Curtis (with Jay just back from the DL). I'm getting anxious to see what we have with some of our high end reliever talent.
  20. I didn't realize Arraez was out for the year. It sucks that two of the organizations top position prospects (Arraez and Kirilloff) are going to miss a season of development.
  21. Curios why Melotakis moved down from his pre-season ranking when it looks like he's been pitching really well this season? It just seems strange that a guy who by all accounts has good stuff and is successful wouldn't be higher on the list.
  22. The Twins starting Pitching is way too thin to hope that adding a rental starter is going to be enough. So far this year Santana has been incredible, Berrios looks very good, and beyond that it's fairly barren. Mejia did have a decent outing last time out and that is promising, unfortunately Santiago has been terrible in May, Gibson is completely broken, and Hughes is cooked. I'd question if trading young assets for a rental is a good idea when the rest of the rotation is so fragile (two very inexperience pitchers, Santiago who seems to have long stretches of poor pitching, and Gibson/Hughes who look a long way from being productive).
  23. It's a tough spot for a brand new front office, take Greene who is by most accounts the best prospect in the draft or go with the lower ceiling pick with less risk. The nightmare scenario is that in 4 years Greene is in the majors and looks like a superstar while the guy the Twins pick is a meh middle of the rotation pitcher. Personally, I go for the home run and draft Greene.
  24. For me the biggest reason I've nearly given up on Hughes is because he's lost around 3 mph on his fastball since 2014 (average velocity under 90 for the season). Without a good fastball Hughes really struggles to get by with his secondary pitches.
  25. I suspect that Hughes may want to retire, either now or in the near future when it becomes clear he isn't going to be able to pitch successfully at the major league level anymore. With that said, there is literally no chance that he walks away from the money the Twins owe him. He'll continue to try to get by as junk baller with frequent DL stints until Minnesota decides that the only option is to release him (probably sometime next season if there isn't a remarkable turnaround).
