  1. I think Cave would have had that if he didn't run that kinda ugly route.
  2. That was a generous strike three on Buxton.
  3. Can’t tell if joking... But in case you’re not, BP had Castro as the 29th most valuable defensive catcher in 2018... despite him playing fewer than 20 games.
  4. I was sitting in a bar in Long Beach when he hit that bouncing ball and just started cackling for like five minutes. Vlad is perhaps the most entertaining ballplayer I ever had the privilege to watch play.
  5. Honestly, the further they've moved from the source material, the more I've enjoyed the show. Martin can't resist hundreds of pages of masturbation. The show is much tighter and fulfilling.
  6. If you watch the second replay of the broadcast after the catch, you can see the ball most of the time. It's going to right center off the bat and then knuckles back to center. Buxton's reactions are perfectly in line with what the ball is doing. Besides, if there's one thing we can't really question about Buxton, it's his flyball reaction speed and route. He's elite in that regard. He doesn't just take "bad routes", as his read off the bat is pretty stellar. This was just a weird ball and he managed to catch it. Again, I wish Buxton would lay up more often but the way he played this ball was masterful. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/tigers-vs-twins/2019/04/14/566967#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=videos,game=566967
  7. Watch it again. That ball knuckled hard. It was well to the first base side of second base and then twisted back to almost dead center. Look at Buxton’s angle of approach. The reason he slowed is because the ball was heading to right center off the bat and Byron had to drastically change angles to get it. I don’t know if there’s another centerfielder in baseball who gets that ball. And I say this as a person who doesn’t like Buxton’s approach in the field because 95% of Byron Buxton is better than 0% of Byron Buxton.
  8. Are you saying he slowed down to make the catch look better? I’m not sure what you’re saying here.
  9. I think caution is the word of the day. And given the depth in this lineup, it’s not like Buxton batting ninth is killing their run-scoring opportunities. My personal stance is wait until the calendar rolls into May and then make a decision.
  10. To be clear, I would happily prorate a $20m one year deal for Kimbrel. I’m simply not that interested in a three year deal for a reliever like him.
  11. That’s the real question in the short term. To answer the question... probably?
  12. I don’t have a lot of faith in guys who skip ST and part of the season to be in MLB-ready shape the moment they step on the field.
  13. Why is Byron wearing an oven mitt while running the bases?
  14. The more I think about this, the more I believe "The Rise of Skywalker" is not literal. The beginning of the saga was about Palpatine's rise. I think this is a rise of good and the Skywalker name. Yes, Ben Solo will likely redeem himself but I think the theme is the rise of good after 40 years of (mostly) evil.
  15. Woof. No. You're basically throwing away half of one year. And then you have a closer for 2.5 years at $16m per. Yeah, okay. No. Go get Keuchel at that rate and I don't really want Keuchel, either.
  16. As good as this kid may be, he'll never be as entertaining to watch as ol' dad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUErJ5zcwYo
  17. I hope Buxton can stay healthy and I wish he would pull up on the occasional ball but I think he'll get there in time. As his body ages, he'll be less excited to run into walls at 20mph.
  18. If a guy can have a great night, go 3-4 with a double and a homer, and his stats return back to respectability, it's too early to worry about his performance. Gonzalez has played in only nine games this season spread out over 2+ weeks.
  19. Agreed. Unlike many others, I enjoyed the ending but season three was a slog.
  20. Agreed. Watch the first five minutes of The Wire and you won’t stop until you’re done. Such a great intro.
  21. Later on, Battlestar gets a bit lost in the weeds but when it’s going well, it’s absolutely stellar. And it has what is maybe the finest first episode of a TV show in history (the first episode of the ongoing series, not the mini-series).
  22. No worries. It was oddly worded on my part.
  23. It was not meant as an insult at all.
  24. Actually, Lucas' original plan was for Anakin to be created by Palpatine (hence the "virginal birth") but was later discarded. This is not an original idea.
  25. I stand by my opinion that the Polanco extension was smarter than the Kepler extension (but I wholly support both). As a shortstop, Polanco is a tweener with the glove. But I think he's going to be a pretty consistent .800-ish OPS guy up the middle as an infielder (give or take 30 points either way based on season). It's better to have that guy at short but also very good to have that guy at second, where his defense isn't as exposed. It was the best extension the Twins signed this offseason, in my opinion. I expect Polanco to settle in as a .780 guy with a few seasonal spikes through his prime, possibly one or two monster seasons mixed in. It's a good signing.
