  1. Ben’s a standup guy and I’ve been posting with him for about 15 years. But if he has a story to share and it doesn’t have a specific reason to stay private, I welcome him to share it.
  2. Also, I don’t know when the last time a movie rewarded me as much as the moment Mjolnir flies into save Thor and and camera pans over to show Captain America holding the hammer. I literally chirped in the theatre. It was 30+ years of comic fandom boiled into a perfect cinematic moment.
  3. What a movie. Interesting tidbit. The kid at Stark’s funeral is the boy from Iron Man 3. Damn, Marvel. You don’t miss a beat.
  4. It shouldn’t be lost on anyone that had the Twins (pointlessly) discarded Castro, their backup catcher would currently be a waiver wire pickup. And this is why you don’t throw away MLB catchers.
  5. Good god. At what point does someone take the Orioles behind the barn and shoot them?
  6. "Say what you will about the Dome, you were at a climate-controlled 72 degrees while Javier Valentin disappointed you.” Priceless. Pure perfection.
  7. Why do we care? If Astudillo is going to stick on the roster, he needs to play a bunch of positions. And you let him play all those positions against Baltimore.
  8. This is how decent teams operate. They fight against the great teams and often lose. They battle against the mediocre teams and balance it out. But they pound the awful teams.
  9. That seems about right to me. Castro had an atrocious start to 2018 before getting injured and in today's game, catchers are often platooned favorably. Castro was an everyday catcher who didn't get platooned hardly at all. His career L/R splits are .739/.568. Do I want Castro as a traditional "starting catcher"? Hell no. But he's a good defensive catcher who can teach some pretty bad/mediocre defenders the ropes while also providing a good platoon split on the strong side of the platoon. Frankly, the "get rid of Castro" crowd seems to be treating catcher as if it’s just another position on the diamond and not a highly specialized defensive position that can sink a team. Castro is a capable hitter from from the strong side of a platoon, he's a good defender, and he has the capability to teach some defensively questionable younger catchers (who also hit from the other side of the platoon) how to catch in the modern game. So, yeah, let's just get rid of that guy.
  10. I don’t agree with the usage of win percentage data for a catcher but you’re barking up the wrong tree here. I simply replied to a statement the Twins were a bad team in 2018; they were not.
  11. Yet Castro wasn’t a part of any of it past the first ~25 games so it doesn’t really matter how they played the stretch or if they finished strong.
  12. Is anyone claiming Castro is a league average hitter or are they claiming he’s a league average hitter for a catcher? Big difference there.
  13. The Twins won 78 games last year. They weren’t exactly terrible.
  14. Yep. Get the information out there, make Trump look as bad as the Mueller report says he is. Then let the voters decide.
  15. Which is why I support Warren (policy) and Klobuchar (pragmatic). I'd put either one of them against Trump and be confident. Warren will be her bull self and Klobuchar will be her passive, yet firm, Midwestern self. I think Warren can win big in some of the middle while Klobuchar can win even bigger in the middle (though not the coasts).
  16. We’re pretty close to 100% agreement on this. I supported Sanders in 2016 but didn’t have to think too hard to vote Clinton when the time came. But obviously, that wasn’t a winning strategy for the movement as a whole. I’ll show up and vote, as will most posters here. We’re not really the target demo.
  17. Fair enough but the skewed response really confused me (literally 90/10 in some states). I know Clinton had the ground game but the disparate results still left me scratching my head.
  18. People of color left me baffled in 2016. From my perspective, Bernie seemed like the obvious choice but, by and large, PoC went big for Clinton. Maybe I’m missing something here but it left me pretty confused at the time. Dunno why a big bank establishment moderate was so popular within those demographics (other than her husband, but I don’t really get that in context of the 21st century, either).
  19. Anyone who questions the ability of an electric motor to pull a load doesn’t understand how electric motors work. 100% torque from 0 RPM. The things are beasts, which is why Teslas are known for their ability to throw a person back in their seat harder than some supercars three or four times the price. There’s a reason why many trains are electric nowadays. They use a diesel motor only for electrical generation but the actual power delivery to the rails is delivered by electric motors because they can produce 100% torque at very low RPM.
  20. I suppose that's possible but in Teslas and GMs, all the hardware is integrated into the vehicle bodywork. You can't even really tell it's there because it's protected by metal and plastic. For example, here's where one of the sensors is located on Teslas:
  21. I've long believed Waymo's approach is the most disciplined and likely to work in the industry. They're using a very principled (and safe) approach. But I think it's a bit silly to say "never". If you realized how quickly this tech and the hardware powering it has advanced, you'd realize that within a decade, the neural processors powering these cars are going to be absolute beasts. You can do a hell of a lot if your processing power jumps twenty fold in a few years.
  22. I’m of the mindset that an adult is an adult. I hate this staggered 18/21 nonsense. If someone can fight and die for this country and vote for its leaders, they should be allowed to have a drink. Pick either 18 or 21, I really don’t care... but if someone is an adult, they should be given the rights of an actual adult.
  23. Fiber means fiber optic lines, which means higher possible speeds. It depends whether you want to pay for the kinds of speed allowed by fiber. There’s really nothing better about a fiber connection in and of itself.
  24. A very good article from a site where I get a lot of my info on autonomous driving. https://arstechnica.com/cars/2019/04/teslas-autonomy-event-impressive-progress-with-an-unrealistic-timeline/
  25. And Musk is flat-out wrong about LIDAR. Which is why pretty much everybody else is fully on board with the tech. Tesla is the one doing it backwards, not everyone else. I like Musk and all he has brought to technology but the dude is a blowhard.
