  1. I can just tell this is going to be one of those unlucky games the Twins simply won’t win, despite the offense looking adequate.
  2. Oh, I was totally cry-face during that scene. It was beautiful, but to me it meant that Brienne was carrying the torch and would survive. Funny how interpretation works that way.
  3. What a wonderful, heartbreaking story. I only say wonderful because of his ability to work through such heartbreak and write such a passionate piece about his child. I'll just go crysob over here for a minute and be back.
  4. But I'd like to take a moment to talk about how f-ing brilliant the first two episodes of the season were and how beautifully they played out. I so loved those episodes. To me, they were far more fulfilling than the battle episode because they were were a distilling of all the elements of the series and making those elements fuse together. I loved every minute of it. The fireplace scene and knighting of Brienne is one of my favorite moments of the entire series. It meant so much, delivered by so many disparate characters who needed that moment to come together.
  5. I'm kind of a tempered guy and a large reason for that is baseball. I've learned that hot starts don't mean great and awful starts don't mean bad. I've learned that peaks can be seen, valleys can be reached, but rarely does a person actually do either. This is still an 85 win team but with their start, they could now be a 90 win team. That's a good thing. Let's just be happy about that because it makes the inevitable disappointment of a five game losing streak more bearable. This is not a championship team... yet. But watching it all unfold will still be a load of fun.
  6. To me, this is the meat of it. I do NOT want to see Biden get the nomination. But, if he does, I'll roll with it because he's the type of smarmy asshat who can win the whole thing. What bothers me the most is how fervently the Democratic Party eats its own. Warren was a Republican, Klobuchar is a centrist, Biden is establishment, Sanders only attracts bros, etc etc etc. Some of that happened with Republicans in 2016 but not nearly to this extent, at least not what I saw. We should all back off a bit and just let this thing play out for a few months.
  7. I don't mean to bash it, I'm just saying the episode let me down because of technological restraints and a bit of dumb****ery. There was no excuse for the battle to be quite as stupid as it was and the episode was sooooo close to magnificent... then the streaming got in the way and made all those budget constraints really apparent. It was a bigger letdown to me because I absolutely adored the first two episodes.
  8. From literally everything I’ve read about the man, that’s not how he operates. He did his job to the best of his ability and gave the findings to the proper authorities. He’s not going to just run out and go on the talk show circuit because he’s mad. We should all respect him for having respect for the system, frankly. I thought his letter to Barr was pretty surprising.
  9. Funded by Madame Tussaud dark money, no doubt.
  10. I agree but I don’t think electability is as much of a concern as it’s played up to be. The Dems have lost three times this century. The candidates were: 2000 - the most boring man on the planet 2004 - somehow, an even more boring man, this time one that resembled something rescued from a wax mannequin museum fire ten minutes too late 2016 - switch it up! a boring woman who gets bonus points for being despised by 50% of the country It seems maybe electability isn’t the biggest problem here.
  11. You mean “blow them away and they’ll listen”. Most teams simply aren’t interested in trading in April or May, even the really bad teams.
  12. Edgar Martinez, Frank Thomas, and Harold Baines all lost well over 100 OPS points (and maybe some over 150, I’d have to check) in a single season before leaving the game. And those are just off the top of my head.
  13. The team isn’t as good as its record. But that doesn’t mean they can’t compete and have a fun summer.
  14. Twins end the season with a 4-3 record against the Astros.
  15. I suspect many of the worst decisions were because of budget.
  16. I didn’t have an issue with the dark as much as how bad it looked on my 4K HDR television streaming over a gigabit connection. But the dark made the streaming deficiencies MUCH worse. The entire screen was artifacted, banded gradients at points.
  17. Yeah, the plot armor was thick in the second half of the episode. I’m pretty sure I went five minutes without seeing a single warrior who wasn’t a named character in the show.
  18. But I finally watched the battle episode. I have to say that after two lead-up episodes that really had me engrossed, the battle was lackluster. It didn't help that, despite my 4k TV and gigabit connection, HBO Go took an overly-dark episode and made it look like an artifacted mess. Quite the disappointment and really a terrible streaming experience. But the battle itself was mind-numbingly stupid. - Whose idea was it to send the cavalry directly at an enemy of unknown numbers on a pitch black battlefield? - Why wasn't the barricade IN FRONT of the army? Or why weren't there two barricades? - The trebuchets were in front. - The trebuchets fired once. - WTF were the dragons doing the entire time the walkers were standing at the fire barricade? - And why were the dragons running so few strafing runs before the night storm set in? The entire sky should have been fire for the first half of the battle. - Greek fire or burning oil could have been of use on the walls, fellas. I've already forgotten a few more things about the battle that bugged me. I don't expect precise military operations from a TV show but I also expect not to scratch my head every three minutes as the "heroes" make another dumb decision.
  19. And let's get this straight: A Song of Ice & Fire is not about magic. Yes, it has scary ice zombies, three dragons, a few resurrected corpses, a dude who possesses birds, a crazy lady with a red amulet, and a smattering other magical elements. But the story isn't about magic. It has magical elements but they're not the core of the story, not even close. Hell, even the "wizards" of the story are just dudes with chains around their necks who read a lot of books. They're more theologian scientists than wizards. It's basically Lord of the Rings with even less magic and LotR hardly had any magic in it at all, really. And, like Lord of the Rings, I suspect the story ends with "this is now the world of men, not monsters and magic".
  20. Cruz is doing exactly what I hoped. The guy is 38 years old. Players like him can crash and burn any time and for almost any reason. But it looks like if he stays healthy, he's the player we hoped he would be.
  21. I only hope the front office’s inability/refusal to sign a reliever - including Kimbrel - has been money- not projection-based. Because if they see something about Kimbrel they don’t like going forward, that doesn’t help the team and we’re still in a holding pattern. But if it’s money, do it. Attendance has been struggling and a first place team going out and getting a top flight reliever would help through the summer a lot.
  22. Corey Kluber broke his arm. I hate to see injuries like that but Cleveland’s “stars ‘n’ scrubs” roster just took a massive hit. If I was the front office, I’d seriously consider paying what it takes to get Kimbrel today, draft pick and money be damned. The door went from being left open to being violently thrown off its hinges. Take advantage.
  23. A walk. The most exciting thing to happen in the past 80 minutes.
  24. It’s been a real team effort out there tonight.
