  1. The bottom overlay ad is what's bothering you, correct? What resolution are you running? I'm on a 15" laptop screen most of the time (1680 resolution) and it doesn't bother me in the least. If you're running a lower res screen, it might be more of a nuisance. I'll adjust my res and use it that way for awhile to see what I think of it under those conditions.
  2. I still question how much of this is actually their "fault". We're talking about the most massive fantasy franchise ever put on television, one that runs over $15m per episode from what I've read. Still, they're basically shooting 90 minute films for $15m, yet they're trying to tell $100m blockbuster film stories. That's... not a lot of money in that context. The deeper we get into this, the more I wonder if the biggest problem is actually located somewhere in the HBO accounting department. Everything feels like it's missing both time and budget, right down to the "pitch black" episode that really needed to be 2-3 episodes. Maybe HBO would have gone for another season because it's a cash cow but it's also possible HBO has seen the "return" on this show through increased subscribers and are ready to move on, limiting the showrunners to one season that should have been two seasons (or, at minimum, one full-length season). The showrunners did so much right for so long that I'm skeptical of buying into the narrative that they suddenly forgot how to tell a story, especially when you consider why this final season is faltering so often (almost all signs point to something related to budget, whether it be number of episodes or how those episodes are portrayed visually and what happens in them to give SFX relief).
  3. Possibly, though it wouldn’t surprise me if he pursued Jon immediately after the battle. I think the rift in camps could be immediate, which would allow Tyrion to stay away from her entirely.
  4. Yep, she’s always had the ability to be merciless, which is why I don’t disagree with the character pivot. And losing two of her most trusted friends could and should push her over the edge but the show runners were playing it too close to the vest for too long. The seeds for this pivot needed to be planted earlier and more directly; nothing over the top, just more time to show her descent into being the mad queen. What I’m most interested in seeing next episode is how Tyrion reacts to what happened. It would be a true violation of his character if he stands by Dany after that happened, though it totally made sense why he tried so hard to stand by her through the past few episodes.
  5. I think the most accurate way to describe the last episode is that the show runners just seriously Anakined Dany. Anakin: I’m a good person! Anakin five minutes later: Eat lightsaber, younglings! Dany isn’t quite that bad but this season has felt like I’m only watching odd-numbered episodes and there’s an entire half of a season I’m missing.
  6. Agreed on Jamie, though making him less ineffectual for the entire episode would have been nice. I actually agree with Dany’s about-face from a character standpoint but like everything this season, it’s way too accelerated. I don’t view it as being about Missandei, I view it as Dany is a Targaryen, raised by an absolutely vile Targaryen. This is who she always was, she just hadn’t been confronted by opposition to her true destiny when everything was in her grasp, yet things were falling apart around her. Slow this thing down, give it time to breathe, and I think many more things make sense. That goes for the night king, Dany, Jamie, everybody.
  7. We’ll be adjusting ads based on performance and annoyance. But remember that almost all the money we make from ads goes right back to our writing community. We’re one of the only sites working under that model and we’re trying to angle an even larger per article payment for them. So a little annoyance can go a long way if it means more and better content from the non-core writers such as Jeremy, Cody, Tom, et al.
  8. The forum topic pages should be fixed now. It may require a cache refresh in your browser to display on your computer. Let me know if any of you find additional errors.
  9. We changed ad providers and a few things went awry. We’re working on getting it resolved. Expect things to be in a state of flux for a little while as we get it sorted.
  10. Which is exactly what I said... You can't bank on good or bad luck going forward. The last sentence of that post was literally: "After a bad/good stretch, the expected outcome is not the opposite; the expected outcome is normality."
  11. I hated the idea of Pelosi as speaker again but she’s kinda killing it. She’s out to win, not posture.
  12. Things don’t necessarily even out. I’d like to see the Dodgers’ splits over that time to see how it played out (yes, I’m too lazy to look). Two bad months and four normal months can make things look bad, yet only the two bad months are an unexpected outcome. After a bad/good stretch, the expected outcome is not the opposite; the expected outcome is normality.
  13. Hitting with RISP isn’t a “problem” anymore than having a bad BaseRuns or Pythag record is a “problem” six weeks into a season. Teams run into bouts of bad luck in a variety of ways. The Twins happen to be neutral in both Pythag and BaseRuns but are “unlucky” with RISP. So are they neutral or unlucky? It doesn’t matter. The games have been played. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
  14. The team should only be adding top-end (or near) talent if this kind of lead continues. And start with the bullpen, as that it far and away the highest priority.
  15. Time to find something else to do with my day.
  16. Bah. Come on, Schoop. Glove that and he’s out by a mile.
  17. Yeah. I wouldn’t have put Buxton on the bases but my faith in Adrianza in that situation approaches zero.
  18. I agree with the decision but not pinch running Buxton there just bit the team in the ass.
  19. Trevor May isn't exactly fooling anyone nowadays, is he? Unfortunate. The team could really use the good version of him.
  20. “Daniel, who is 37, unmarried, and wears a fedora to chain restaurant bars, often regales trapped employees of a local IT consulting firm with his against-the-grain takes during their half-hour lunch break.” This is my new favorite sentence.
  21. It says a lot that no one has commented on this thread until now. Yeah, we all love baseball. We also love a lot of these players, yet do all we can to distance ourselves from their actual issues. So give a buck or two. https://help.rescue.org/donate/help-venezuelans-now?ms=gs_ppc_venezuela_es_180829&initialms=gs_ppc_venezuela_es_180829&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn8_mBRCLARIsAKxi0GKAM3fqwqXeUIH-FhmOYBPxN9nLxJcZsDSiscnuQ1aP991Dirot2S4aAjdYEALw_wcB
