He's not that good, at least not yet. This is the perfect game to let him get beat around a bit because he's likely sent down after tonight anyway.

As much as most of us hated the trade deadline, imagine what Yankees forums must have looked like over the past two weeks. Oh, wait, no need to imagine. Here's a real time photo.

The defense has been atrocious lately. Just unforgivable mistakes time and time again.

I don't care how it happens and what it takes but Buxton needs to stay on the field. I'm convinced the Twins have dropped at least 3-4 games solely because he wasn't roaming center field (never mind his bat versus Cave's bat). Crashing into the wall is spectacular - and sometimes necessary - but it doesn't need to happen all the time in the sixth inning of a random game in July.

If Smeltzer takes over the next three innings, I don't think it really matters. I'd be more upset about it if Pineda wasn't coming off the IL.

    Season over.

This post made me realize I was watching the game on time delay.

Better get the bullpen warmed up, Pineda might throw more than ten pitches this inning.

    Huge win. Huge.

In most cases, I subscribe then immediately cancel. That way I never forget to cancel and if I don’t finish watching within 30 days, so be it.

Were any impact arms even traded today? Other than Greinke, of course. But he wasn’t coming here.
  14. Brock Beauchamp
I think it was an acceptable deadline. I’m not thrilled but it was acceptable.

I hate to break it to you but when it comes to $50m+ being in play, Houston is going to have the advantage every time. Then there’s the NTC to get around, which likely killed any chance of a deal before it could begin.
  16. Brock Beauchamp
What’s BS about it? We know Greinke had Minnesota on his NT clause.
  17. Brock Beauchamp
That would require the Twins to claim home field advantage in the postseason, a tough goal to reach given yesterday's Astros team, much less today's Astros team.

The Twins' share of those three states add up to less than a million people. The Houston metro area alone has 1.5 million more people than the entire state of Minnesota.
  19. Brock Beauchamp
I doubt it, as Houston had a lot of payroll space for years and they play in one of the largest markets in the country. Their payroll is way higher today, especially once you add Greinke.
  20. Brock Beauchamp
Boy, what a silly trade deadline re: starters. Stroman and Bauer go to non-contenders. Minor, Bumgarner, Wheeler, and others stay put. Only Greinke felt like a normal move.
  21. Brock Beauchamp
Houston also plays in a market roughly twice the population of the Twins.
  22. Brock Beauchamp
The Greinke deal looks really good for 2019 but one has to ask what this does to the Astros in 2020 and beyond. Hard to see them keeping Cole, for example.
  23. Brock Beauchamp
In the course of two weeks, I've gone from quite bullish on this front office to seriously considering whether they should be fired.
  24. Brock Beauchamp
    And that’s that. 3pm.
