    Beat me to it. Pitchers have some finesse where they throw the ball but mistakes happen *all the time*. Lots of guys have built solid careers on just getting by on good pitches and mashing bad ones.

    Unless teams are low balling offers and treating Nunez as a futility option, I probably trade the guy. He's not a .900 OPS guy - at least I don't think he is - but he has shown enough spark over the past two seasons that I don't give the guy away.

    Yes, all of this. It's one thing if the team is contending and Arcia doesn't fit. It's another thing if players with more upside force Arcia to the waiver wire. But this team... This season... It's like they're throwing darts blindfolded. Never before have I seen a season where a full 50% (or more) of the moves leave me scratching my head, unsure what the thinking was behind the decision. Even when I don't agree with a move, at least I can see the rationale behind it most of the time. But this season...

    I think the best case scenario is that he comes back and turns into a useful LOOGY for 2-3 seasons. I think the most likely scenario is that he comes back, scuffles badly, and is out of baseball within 18 months. Which is too bad because I really like Perkins.

    Meh. This move seems reactionary and we're well past the point where the Twins should care about being reactionary. I hope Buxton succeeds but it's hard to imagine he has learned enough to adjust in one month of play in Rochester.

    1968 should be discarded as an aberration. MLB posted the second-lowest runs per game in 1968 at just 3.42. The only year with fewer runs per game is 1908 at 3.38. So the 2016 Twins are, in actuality, much worse than their 1968 counterparts. Which makes them the worst offensive Twins team in history, probably by a healthy margin.

    Are you suggesting Neil Allen is a bad coach? Because... No, I can't agree with that even a little bit. What Meyer needed was confidence and support. He didn't get that from Molitor with the quick hook in a game where he was struggling but not terrible.

    I'm not saying the Twins have handled Meyer well - I don't understand half the moves made over the past 2-3 weeks - but skipping one start shouldn't hurt Alex too much.

    You guys are acting as if Meyer hasn't pitched since Spring Training. He last pitched on April 20th. In essence, he skipped one start. Is that optimal? No. Is it a deal-breaker? No, it shouldn't be... If the Twins plan on starting him, I'm sure he'll get some BP sessions in before games and be ready to go on Sunday.

    Yeah, but the nature of starters makes that more acceptable. Only one starter goes on any given day whereas you can use an entire bullpen on any given day. It makes it a lot harder to make in-game decisions when you get to pick between mediocre guy A, B, C, and D.

    Jepsen is a pretty good seventh inning guy. He's a tolerable eighth inning guy. He's not a good closer (though I think closers are overrated anyway so there's that). The problem, once again, isn't Jepsen... It's depth.

    Interestingly, the Twins played both sides of that coin this offseason. They traded for Murphy, which *may* have been an overpay. But that's still very much up in the air. But they also traded Herrmann for Palka and made Arizona overpay for a (bad) catcher. And then they let Fryer go for nothing. And then they went and picked up Hicks for nothing. This team confuses the hell out of me.

    Whenever the value of something rises, the value of something else diminishes. If MLB salaries aren't a zero sum game, they're something close to it. If the price of relievers spirals out of control, go find the market that is undervalued and get your performance value from that part of the roster.

    I agree the comparison doesn't really work. The two teams could end up at the same point if Meyer/May dominate but that doesn't mean the path taken is the same.

    Not nit-picking your argument but the Royals are actually rather mediocre when it comes to OBP. If they're emphasizing getting on base, they're doing a rather bad job of it.
