Just DFA'd by Pirates. 7.8/9 K rate with a low 4 ERA for his career. Still only 28. 2013 injury issues, but....low risk pick up?

He has an identical career ERA+ as Mike Pelfrey.

Another reason that a multi year deal for Pelfrey should not even be considered. Guys of his caliber can be found every year.

 

As for McDonald, I'd say no. We have a plethora of back of the rotation options, quantity does not equal quality. Though, if the option is Pelfrey or McDonald, I'd choose McDonald. He's a year younger, and will be cheaper.

He's having arm problems, so I probably don't claim him because of that. We have too many #5 starters, and I don't think another one could do any good.

 

Though I would like to add something new and fresh to the rotation....
