  1. There is a certain level of satisfaction I get when I see the opposing pitcher's pitch count approach 100 in the 5th inning....even if we haven't pushed a lot of runs across at that point....it's an attitude they have about making the guy work harder than they want to....and it is absolutely refreshing to see...reminds me of the multiple playoff series with the Yankees where they would grind out at bats against our starters and never give in.....
  2. So MLB Trade Rumors has a breakdown on a contract extension Jedd Gyorko of SD is signing after one full year of service. $2MM in 2015, $4MM in 2016, $6MM in 2017, $9MM in 2018, $13MM in 2019 and a $13MM club option (or $1MM buyout) for the 2020 season. If you look at Gyorko's 2013, it looks very similar to Dozier. Dozier has 1/2 season of extra time from 2012 that Gyorko doesn't have, but otherwise these 2 guys are very similar. Gyorko was .249/.301/.745 last year and Dozier was .244/.312/.726. Gyorko has a bit more power offset by Dozier's stronger OBP. Gyorko is 25 (26 in September), Dozier is 26 (27 next month). I know there was some discussion on extending Dozier before the season, but it seemingly didn't get very far. Understanding the depth we have at 2B in the minors, does anyone think a similar contract to Gyorko's is a) appropriate for Dozier, and would you do it?
  3. Thanks for these! I was also curious, similar to our team being down to the final 29 for 25 spots, if anyone had analyzed other rosters to the point where guys that hadn't been cut yet but could be cut (Mayberry, etc), could they be of interest to us? It's a big ask to analyze current rosters of 29 other teams but curious if someone had done that....
  4. Has anyone studied any of the other roster cuts that could happen on other teams to see if any would be an improvement on what we've got? From the discussions on the board I'd assume anyone's garbage is better than ours.....
  5. Just DFA'd by Pirates. 7.8/9 K rate with a low 4 ERA for his career. Still only 28. 2013 injury issues, but....low risk pick up?
  6. Saw on ESPN.com today that Andrew Bailey has a significant injury that may impact his availability for the rest of the season. With Perk being our best trade chip, what is the possibility that we could get Bogaerts back in a trade, understanding it couldn't be a 1 for 1 deal as the Red Sox wouldn't go for that, but what if we threw in an Angel Morales, Max Kepler type (one of our many OF prospects in top 30 prospect list) along with Perkins for Bogaerts. Any chance?
  7. Agree with Rico and hammer, if we could get him for one or two C or C+ prospects (guys likely not in the top 20 MN prospects), then taking a chance for the $5M he's owed in 2013 makes a lot of sense. If he turns out to disappoint on or off the field, it is a one year experiment. If he's better than expected, the club options give you multi year possibilities....makes too much sense.....
