If you were a contending team would you trust Duensing?

Depends on how a team views relievers and their potential. Duensing has very solid stuff against lefties, strong peripherals versus them. At the same time, he's allowed some hits but not many big hits. In a LOOGY role, he could put up good numbers.

 

The difference is that Duensing is arb-eligible. Makes a difference thinking you may be able to keep him past this year. Of course, he would make a lot at arb, too.

 

Personally, I don't think he goes anywhere.

True, but this is not necessarily a repeatable skill set.

He's not worth keeping. These guys aren't that rare, if they're aren't productive replace them.

He is no longer a long-relief/spot starter alternative, especially at whatever price he will demand. The Twins have both Aaron Thompson and Pedro Hernandez who could step into his role for the immediate future.

 

And too bad about Cole DeVries, he might've made Swarzak expendable. But don't see him even getting a September call-up this year, let alone remaining on the 40-man (although I hope he'll stick with the organization for another season).

Ibarra is ready and he is a lefty, Tonkin and Ibarra are both knocking on the door, Duensing should be easily replaced.

Need 2 40-man slots for both Albers and Ibarra. So trade Duensing and ship Butera to the Cardinals - they need catching help. Two C prospects for the 2 of them would be just fine.

I agree with your original post. No way in hell should we call up Ibarra.
