2 WAR for a season, often viewed as a baseline for an "average" full-time regular, seriously undersells any catcher who achieves it.

First, the number of starts behind the plate serves as a limit on the plate appearances.  It's just harder to accumulate 2 WAR of value at the plate when you're playing, say, 2/3 as much as a good starting center fielder or shortstop.

Second, if the catcher is a good enough hitter that you want him in the batting order even on his "days off" behind the plate, the versions of WAR I'm familiar with apply a penalty for the games as a DH.  While there is a defensive bonus for playing catcher, a lot of it is negated when you DH.  (This is true of hitters like Byron Buxton as well.)  The DH penalty is well-intentioned, since the bar is very high to be a positive contributor there.  But still, trying to be even a 2 WAR player is very hard when DHing very much.

A catching tandem that together earns 2 WAR is arguably major-league average.  One catcher doing that by himself is considerably better, as he leaves room for his backup to contribute too (if he is capable).

the situation is with compensation. it'll just become less and less to the point. there is none. and the 6 years tied to your team last bargaining the players wanted 3 years which would more than ruin an already almost ruined situation with the lesser income teams. who wins every year with a 3-year deal. before the Minnesota twins or at least half of the teams in baseball free agency thing? when was that 1976? so they're about Kurt flood and Andy mesersmith were the players that got it started. so when everybody's tied to their team, unless traded salaries were a whole lot less prices to go to a game where a whole lot less so that began crazy money and where it has gotten to is beyond my wildest imagination $700 million for 10 years.

Jeffers seems to love playing in Minnesota that we are a band of Brothers. I think he said. not exactly Mr. Jeffers. let's see what you do you will be offered. I have no idea how much so let me just guess $100 million and you know another team will give you $130 million. what's going to happen to your band of Brothers then? I was thinking like this person they needed to just make a trade anywhere but New York see what knees could have been helped. One little draft pick isn't going to make up the difference.
