There’s definitely a reason he never made it out of the 5th and barley the 4th in alot of games. Who among the Twins starters routinely faced TTO over the past 2 years (Twins)? Innings per game. SWR and Matthews are in the same boat as Festa over the past couple of years, and SWR especially had much more opportunity. I do think Matthews pitched to more hitters than Festa despite the lower innings per start count, but Matthews also puts a lot more guys on base than Festa. Ryan = 5.67 Lopez = 5.67 Ober = 5.60 Bradley = 5.22 SWR = 4.80 Festa = 4.70 Matthews = 4.68 TopGunn#22 and rdehring 2

If you move Festa to the bullpen and have a rotation of Ryan, Lopez, Ober, SWR, and Bradley then there's a reasonable question of whether you're better off having the first man up in AAA be Matthews or Abel, as guys with at least some experience in MLB. Otherwise you're relying on Rojas (no MLB experience, didn't look ready for AAA last season), Morris (had some injury issues, never pitched in MLB), and the rest of the "never pitched an inning in MLB" crew. I think one of them needs to be moved for sure, and Festa seems like the best choice. I am fine with Matthews and Abel filling the 6th and 7th starter roles. If you get to the 8th pitcher, then you can start looking at minor leaguers with opt-outs and the waiver wire. rdehring 1

There was an upper limit for the younger pitchers of 80 or so, 100 for Lopez, Ober and Ryan.
