Article: Trade Talk: Colorado Rockies

Nicasio is an intriguing target. A change may help him.

Story also fits what we might expect in a Perkins deal. A guy ranked in the 100 not having a top 100 season. Wilson Ramos was this guy in 2010. His OPS in AAA at the time of the trade was 625 (295 plate appearances).

There are not comps of relievers getting much better return.

I just watched Jeff Manship pitch for the Sky Sox, so yeah, not a great farm system. He pitched pretty well though!

I liked the humorous tone of this piece. Story for Perkins sounds good to me. Or Story/Butler for Perkins/Morneau? Unreasonable?

Thanks! Nope, not unreasonable, but Story/Nicasio might be more realistic. Also, the Rockies won last night so they are 1/3 of the way to becoming buyers.

Honestly, all four of those guys look intriguing to me. Maybe TR finds a way to get three of them?

I'm still trying to think of a non-homerish, reasonable sounding trade for either Jurickson Profar or Starlin Castro.

It needs to be mentioned that Todd Helton is no spring chicken anymore.

Oh crud, I meant to make like 50 jokes about that. Oh well, here's something:

Baseball Reference says that his nickname is "The Toddfather" but perhaps "The Grandfather" or The Great-Grandfather" would be more appropriate.

"They haven't made the playoffs since 2009 and their best offensive players are approaching 30."

I wouldn't say that. Carlos Gonzalez is still 27 and Tulowitski is 28. I mean, technically they are, since everyone ages, but they are a ways away.

Isn't it better to have your best players approaching 30 then to have them getting farther and farther away from 30? :-)

This is true, but if the Rockies don't buy this year, then those guys are 28 and 29. Plus, the farm system is terrible. I just think they need to strike while they have two MVP candidates in their prime.

Too bad the Twins didn't think this way... and to think they had two MVP's not just candidates!

Perkins really isn't a need for the Rockies. The back of their bullpen is a strong point. If they acquire anything it will be a starting pitcher. But they've never been aggressive at the trade deadline. It's far more likely they sell.
