Gleyber Torres to Detroit

1 year 15 million. Interesting signing for them. He's only 28, so young for a free agent generally. Interesting to see if he can bounce back for them after a down regular season for him in New York in 2024.

Signing Gleybar Torres bumps Detroit just over $100M in spending. It is only a one year deal too. Detroit could be a scary team, once they determine which of their younger players is a fit and where they should add via free agency and through trades, because they have less than $30M on the rolls for 2026. Perhaps the Tigers add Flaherty or another pitcher still this year.

That has potential to be the best bargain of the offseason. If he has a good season, Detroit still has the option of offering a qualifying offer.

Adding to this thread; with Gleyber going to Detroit for 2025, and Colt Keith now listed as the primary 1B for 2025 on roster resource, I wouldn't HATE the idea of sending something to Detroit to get Torkelson here.

Would I prefer to shoot higher? Sure. But he graded out about average, if not just slightly above average, defensively at 1B. There aren't a LOT of guys out there who are still available who aren't just flat butchers on defense. He also is still fairly young, and had an ok August and September last year.

Could be a nice change of scenery for him.

Two questions...

1) Would you be in favor of a move like this?

2) What would Detroit want to move off of Torkelson?
