Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I wasn't able to listen to the entire interview but I heard the first two questions he was asked and what I took away from the answers. He didn't argue or correct the interviewer when the question was phrased with the words "Payroll Flat". Falvey said they have been primarily talking with other clubs about trade possibilities which I took as... not particularly active in free agents. This was not a surprise to me. When asked what the needs were and what they were looking for he starting by saying that he liked the starting pitching options. He went on to say that they were 7 or 8 deep. Personally... I'd love to add a big arm... we all would but in the absence of a big arm... I'm Ok with him being somewhat comfortable with the rotation as my hope remains that they don't bring in an innings eater. The first need that he did mention was replacing Carlos Santana at 1B. He talked about Julien and Miranda getting work at 1B but the first thing he mentioned was a Carlos Santana replacement so I assume 1B is the top priority based on the sequence of his response. The 2nd thing he mentioned was right handed replacements for Margot and Farmer. This made me sad. I had to get out of the car and back to work so I didn't listen to the rest of the interview. Unless I hear differently later on in the off-season. I fully expect a couple Margot and Farmer look a likes to join the club. That is going to suck... I'm not surprised but yeah the confirmation is disapointing. Richie the Rally Goat and Mike Sixel 2

He's normally very tight lipped and this year he will have absolutely nothing important to say with a sale pending. Lotta folks are going to burn credibility being certain they can read between the lines. I don't even buy the 130 number. Richie the Rally Goat, NYCTK, Major League Ready and 1 other 4

Yeah... my post contained a lot of in between the spaces commentary and it shouldn't. I normally caution against that sort of lip reading because the job has to be fluid reacting to ever changing context that they can't predict. These guys are asked questions all the time and they have to provide some sort of answer or at least skillfully dance around it. Public Relations is task. With that said... I found it interesting that his top of mind was. 1. He likes the pitching 2. 1st base 3. Right Handed Specialists.
